Chapter 18

Arnav’s POV

I had never expected Khushi to come here and most importantly to talk to me. Ever since I have got to know she is marrying next month, I have lost something inside me. I don’t know what and why. If someone wants to be so closed about her life to me, why should I be bothered? I have never been so desperate to know other’s problems like I am to know Khushi Guptas’. That’s something I am yet to figure out.

“What will you drink?” I ask as Khushi takes the seat where my dad was sitting earlier.

“I don’t want anything except your full attention.”

My lips twist into a smile.

“You have all my attention Miss Gupta until you assure me you are not marrying that idiot next month.”

Her brows twitch in surprise.

“What is the matter with you? Why are you stuck here? At my marriage?”

Good question. I look away.

“Arnav Singh Raizada, I asked you something.”

“You are here to speak not ask. If you want to ask, I better leave.”

She grabs my arm over the table thinking I am going to get up. I wasn’t leaving her here until she tells me everything. But the moment our hands touch, I feel it.. That spark again which we both have started feeling when we are close. I know she feels that too because the next instant she moves her hand away and looks elsewhere.

“Fine. I’ll speak and you will not interfere me until I am done.”

“Noted” I nod.

“I am not marrying Shyam Jha. Not next month, not ever.”

A relief courses through my body and I can’t help exhale. This is good news.

“And that’s because I don’t like him much either. I don’t see him anywhere in my future. He and I are two different worlds forced to come together for a purpose and I am trying my best to come out of that situation.”

“What situation?” I snap. This is what I want to know from ages!! Why is she engaged to him still?

“I told you not to interfere and you had agreed Arnav.”

“F*** it. I asked you something Khushi Gupta and you answer me that first. What is he blackmailing you with?”

She gives me a sarcastic stare. Alright! I know she doesn’t like it when I force her for answers.

“Alright. Don’t tell me but at least tell me if you need my help to get this situation better.”

“I don’t need help. And why is that you think I would need you to help me? You are not my friend Arnav.”

“Then who am I?” I glare and she is silenced.

I don’t think she has answer to that either. But I probe further.

“That day when you needed help for your friend Lavanya, you came straight to me. Why? Because you consider me someone you can trust on. We have established that much between us so far, didn’t we?”

She is blank.

“We have stayed in the same hotel suite Khushi Gupta and I have opened up my vulnerable side to you in Abu Dhabi. I don’t think you have to think twice before coming to me for help. Because even if you don’t, I would help you in any way I can. Even if it means hiring a goon and getting that Shyam Jha punched on his face so that he doesn’t dare to eye at you anymore.”

A smile breaks her lips as I complete. Did I complete? I don’t think so. I have so much to tell her I can do for her. All she had to do was ask… But wait!! Is she smiling? I made her smile? How’s that possible? We are having such a serious conversation and she is smiling? Should I be angry that she is not focusing on my talk or be happy that I made her smile?

“Khushi I am serious..” I remind her.

“I can see that.”

“Then why the hell are you smiling?”

“I imagined Shyam getting punched by your hired goons. Do you think he is that easy to be threatened?”

“Try me” I challenge.

She looks at me confused at first, then her cheeks flame. I have never seen them changing color mere by my words. This is first!! The air between us crackles but she is the first one to compose again.

“You can’t hurt him. He is not that bad. He only appreciates beauty..”

She is praising herself and I don’t agree less. Khushi Gupta is beauuuutiful.

“I still don’t appreciate he or any other man looking at you like that..”

Now she frowns.

“Why the hell do you care Mr. Raizada? You better have a good reason behind this..”

“I have…” I lean forward. “I don’t want the CEO of my company to be distracted by such advancement from men. She needs to focus on raising the company stakes..”

Khushi is about to say something when I interrupt her again.

“Lets come back to the original topic now. I want you to know that I am here to help. Any help!!”

She stares at me, for more than a few seconds and then sighs.

“I’ll remember that. But for now I don’t need any help. I have managed.”

She is a strong woman, I know she can manage to fix things herself but I really want her to know I am there for her. Anytime.. in any way she wants me..

Damn!! My lower body twitches with unknown sensation.

“Are we good now?” she asks, hoping we are sorted.

“Not yet..”

I get up from my seat and stretch my hand towards her. she doesn’t understand.

“Dance with me..”

Her eyes widen in shock.

“Just a dance Khushi Gupta.”

She looks at my hand and then back to my eyes.

“I don’t do dances.”

“Why?” I ask sternly.

“I don’t like dancing.”

“Neither me.” I lean on her chair a bit to whisper. “And Mom says when two people don’t like something, they should try it together.”

I feel her heart racing as mine. This is the first time I am hearing her heartbeats. When I gaze back on her face, she is staring at mine already.

“Just one dance..” I urge and the next instant she places her hand in mine and rises up.

*******************

Khushi’s POV

I don’t like dancing much but I can’t deny Arnav Singh Raizada tonight for some odd reason which I don’t fathom myself yet. Isn’t he becoming extra cheesy these days? Or was he always like that and I never saw? It feels like I am melting by his strong will to make me do things his way. Does that make me weak? No!! But that still gives me the power to think that I am capable of bringing out these feelings from a man. Let’s admit, I am not a normal woman. I don’t do dates. I hardly look at men in any other angle other than professionalism. Even Shyam who is my fiancée, I never dared to describe his manliness to my own self because I never felt that attraction for him. I had almost started believing my female hormones have died down ever since I took life seriously. But this man here.. he makes me feel totally opposite to what I had become. I didn’t know I still had that side in me when my heart will race for a man ever!!

Arnav drags me to the dance floor and we just stare at each other in the middle of the floor, whilst everyone else dances around us. Arnav has made me speechless and he has cleared my mind from every other thoughts that usually keep me occupied. Tonight, at this moment, all I think about is what next? He takes a step closer and my heart skips a beat when his arm slides protectively around my waist to bring me closer to his body. Dance!! He is just preparing us to dance. There’s nothing more to this. I swallow when my palms hold up his shoulder blade as he groves us together in a small ball dance.

And the night has just begun!!

Standalone Enemies to Lovers Romance Novel

Jhanvi Sikand
I was supposed to marry my childhood friend, Mohit Raichand. Call it fate or destiny, I tied the knot with the Forbidden Heir of the Raichand family – Aarav Raichand, instead. I knew nothing about him except that he used me as a pawn to start a war to snatch from the Raichands what was legally his.

Aarav Raichand
Despite being the firstborn in the Raichand family, they forbade me from the rights and tags I should legally own. My father was secretly married to my mother, his middle-class lady love. Yet my egoistic grandmother got him re-married to another woman from her rich circle. She considers their offspring, Mohit Raichand, as the true heir of the family now. I would have ignored it all had her actions not taken my mother’s life. I pledged on my mother’s grave to crush the ego of my grandmother and snatch what is rightfully mine, including the woman she was getting Mohit married to.

A Fight for dominance altered to War for Love. One war, Three Lives, Only Two could survive.
