Chapter 28


Arnav’s POV

“Ahh” I groan. “That would never happen. If my baby doesn't let me kiss Khushi at home, I’ll kiss her and spend good time with her at office.”

Dad looks stunned at my reply and after a few seconds I realize why? I just took Khushi’s name in the place of my wife. What a blunder!! Here she is still not willing to give a start and I had already imagined having babies with her?

Dad doesn't look startled at my silly banter rather he stares at me to spill it all out.


“I didn’t know my son is planning to marry the company’s CEO?” Dad mocks.

“Dad please.. Don’t think that far.”

“You just gave me a reason to do so, son. We were talking about kids becoming possessive of their mothers and you named Khushi in the place of your wife. How serious are you?”

There’s no point hiding it from him so I blurt out few tidbits.


“I like her. That’s not hidden I suppose. And I think if I can date anyone, it has to be her.”

“But are you sure she is the kind of woman you’ll want to date? I mean, I know her from past 6 years. She’s bossy and so are you. How would that work?”

“I don’t know. But for now, I have better things to worry about.”

“Like?” Dad curiously asks and I am about to respond when Mom comes in the room.


“Arnav, Ayush.. There is police here.”


I stare at my father and we are both confused why would they come here. On walking out, I see that there are two police officials, waiting in the living room.


“What can we do for you?” Dad asks.

“There is a complaint against your son, Arnav Singh Raizada that he punched Shyam Jha in a restaurant last night.”


Dad and Mom both stare at me. This is exactly what I had to worry about.

“What is all this, Arnav?” Mom asks. “Are they telling the truth?”

“Yes, they are” I shrug. “I hit Shyam because he tried to misbehave with Khushi and I couldn’t tolerate that. But he is making a big issue out of it, Inspector.”

“Whatever it is, we are here to take your statement. Since the complaint is filed, we couldn’t ignore it.”


Dad picks his phone.

“I’ll call our lawyer. My son won’t give any statement without my lawyer’s presence.”

“Dad relax”

“He is right, Arnav” Mom interrupts. “Don’t you say a word.”

“Look Mr. Raizada” the inspector continues. “We are only here to know what happened. We already have checked the CCTV footage of the restaurant and it confirms you have hit him.”

“So?” I glare at them. “I told you he was misbehaving with Khushi and..”

“But that’s not what he said. According to Mr. Shyam Jha you are brainwashing his fiancée and..”

“One minute, Inspector”


Khushi’s voice silences us all. She’s probably heard this conversation and is now descending the stairs.

“You are..” The inspector tries to recall.

“Strange.” Khushi clenches her jaw. “You just said that you saw the video footage of the restaurant and you don’t know who I am?”


The police officials stare at each other and then back at us.


“I am Khushi Gupta, the one who has witnessed this entire drama. In fact it was me Shyam Jha tried to misbehave. He was the one who stopped me and Arnav from leaving and he said things to us which Arnav couldn’t handle by words alone..”

“Oh” the inspector nods. “So you are Mr. Jha’s fiancee?”

“I was..” Khushi snarls. “I have broken every ties with the Jha family days ago and my lawyer will already show you the proofs you need for that. And good you are here to check on last night’s incident Inspector. In fact, me and Arnav were going to come to the police station to file a complaint against the threats that Shyam gave us last night.”


The police are confused. Arnav smirks at me before continuing.


“We have already registered a case about someone tried to abduct Khushi in a hotel a few days back and that time she wasn’t sure who could do that but after last night’s threat from Shyam Jha, we assume it was him or his father who couldn’t handle Khushi’s rejection and tried to harm her. We want the police to investigate on these suspects thoroughly.”


They quickly take the details of that case too and call up their superiors to check. Once confirmed, they speak to us again. My laywer is here too as Dad called him on time.


“That’s another case, Mr. Raizada which will be handled separately. But we will still need your statement and Miss Gupta’s too about last night’s incident.”

“Sure” We both nod and then quickly tell everything that happened and how Shyam’s misbehavior and threatening led me to raise my hand on him.


“That was purely to defend me, Inspector” Khushi interrupts as we finish giving the statement.

“Isn’t it too silly to do something like this for a mere CEO of his Company?” the police cross questions. “It wasn’t that Shyam Jha was abusing you. Why did Mr. Raizada lose his cool then.”


Khushi grips my arm before I could respond and answers them.


“Any man can’t tolerate someone even verbally abusing his girlfriend, Inspector. I am sure you would agree to that.”


My eyes widen at her reply. Did she just call herself my girlfriend? But.. last night she wasn’t ready to give us a shot. What changed today?


“Girlfriend?” the police official probes.

“Yes,” Khushi quickly glances at me and stares at the police again. “We are dating, inspector. And whatever happened out there was just to protect me from my ex fiancée. Shyam is not letting me move on and that’s why he is always ready to hurt me or do anything to bring me to his side. Arnav is at no fault.”


My jaw drops as I watch her speak confidently about our relationship to them when I myself didn’t know when did we start dating from? Mom and Dad returns to us.


“Now that Khushi has clarified her side, is that enough for your statement Inspector?” Dad asks confidently.


The police get up, winding up their queries. They inform us that if they need more information, they would call us again. Once they leave, I am still staring at Khushi while Dad and Mom are utterly confused.


“Thank you, Khushi” Mom speaks. “You literally saved things from escalating. Your statement was much needed. I hope they now join the dots and realize Shyam is over exaggerating.”

“They will Aunty, you don’t have to worry.” Khushi answers.

“Thank you Khushi.” Dad adds. “Just have no words but why didn’t you two tell us about last night?”

“I was going to tell you today morning Dad, but .. I was late.. The police came here before we could speak.”

“Hmm” he nods. “Anyways, don’t let that bother you.”


As if Mom understands my need to speak to Khushi alone she makes an excuse.


“Ayush, Help me with serving the breakfast at the table. Will you?”

“Me?” Dad frowns. He is always clueless to such scenarios.

“What’s so surprising about that? You helped me before too, when we were newly married..”


Mom realizes she shouldn’t have brought that up and Dad is blushing.


“You are right.. I forgot.. Let’s re-create those memories again,” he mocks.

“Oh please. I just need help not you or your memories. Now please, can we head away to the kitchen?”


She literally holds Dad’s hand and drags him to the kitchen.


Khushi and I both stare at them for a while until they are gone. I take a step towards her.

“Did you mean it?” I ask. “Or was it only to give the statement in my favor?”

Khushi hesitates a bit to reply and that makes me all the more curious. I reach closer and she finally meets my heated gaze with hers.

“Let’s do it,” she says and my heart beats frantically. “You want to date me, lets date. But don’t keep high hopes from me that this will go positively in future. I still feel you might not sustain my stubbornness, arrogance and my baggage for long and likewise I can’t withstand your ego too much either. But someone told me I should stop running from life and embrace it. That I should not judge things before trying them.”


A smile is up on my face.


“Did Mom tell you that?” I ask and she nods with a soft smirk on her lips.

“How did you know?”

“She’s told that to many..” I hold my laugh and suddenly I am too excited about this. Khushi wants to date me and see where this leads us? Wow!!

“Before we get into this..” khushi continues. “Let me warn you I can be a very demanding partner. I don’t like to waste time in texting throughout the nights, or make phone calls often during the day time and speak for hours.. I might sound boring but that’s how I am.”


That’s not I was looking either in my woman so I am okay with it.


“Glad you told. I wouldn’t nag you if you don’t call me or text me often. Mainly because…” I take another step closer to her and this time her brows twitch in surprise. I was invading her private space.. “Because I can use the opportunity to sneak into your room and speak to you face to face at home here.. or in your cabin when we work at office. Nothing beats talking in person to your partner.. what do you think?”


Her cheeks flush and trust me, I have never seen her blushing like this before. She suddenly points a finger on my chest to stop me from coming closer than that.

“I forgot to tell you the most boring thing about me, Mr. Raizada,” she murmurs. “Can’t wait to know.” I reply back, almost instantly.

She grins as if apprehending my reaction already to her next statement.

“I don’t like to be involved in any physical stuff until I am sure about wanting it.”


Is she serious? My jaw drops again.

“What… what does that.. mean?” Gosh, I am stuttering. Hope she doesn't find me desperate.

“It’s very clear.” She shrugs. “It means no kissing, touching unnecessarily or demanding anything that usually happens between a couple, so soon..”


Alright. I wish I hadn’t heard it at all. But again, I know she is going to change this sooner than she thinks she can sustain. She would be dating me after all and I know how to break her resistance. A part of me also feels that she is simply saying this to scare me off so I accept the challenge.

“No kissing, touching unnecessarily or demanding more.. is fine with me.”

She looks a bit surprised.

“Why are you grinning Mr. Raizada?”

I haven’t dropped my gaze from her yet. I gently move a hair tendril and tuck it behind her ear. She does her best to hold her gasp.

“Because I know you are soon going to demand all of these from me, Miss Gupta. You better worry about that..”


She swallows her nervousness. Mom calls us that same instant for breakfast and I gesture Khushi to lead us to the dining table which she does. So, we are finally dating!!
