Khushi’s POV
It hurts like hell but with NK’s support, I manage to get of the private elevator of the penthouse.
“Careful,” NK keeps saying as he leads me to the living room.
“What the..” We both jerk at the sudden voice from Arnav who was working on his laptop sitting on the couch and is now heading my way.
His eyes first glue at the way NK has slide his arm around my waist to support my body and I can tell from Arnav’s glare that he is going to punch him too for being so close to me. But the moment Arnav nears, he sees the brown color bandage on my right ankle and his anger turns into concern.
“Khushi?” he is about to hold me but I cling to NK instead. Arnav fists his fingers which he had stretched to touch me. His mood definitely sours seeing his wife in another man’s arms but I have already clarified it to Arnav a few days ago that NK is just my friend and that I don’t need another man in my life because I am done dealing with one.
Witnessing the blazing silence between us, NK interrupts.
“Uh, Khushi fell down during her shoot and got a major ankle sprain,” he tells Arnav. “But nothing to worry. The Doctors has asked her bed rest for straight 3 days.”
“2 days,” I scorn at NK who chuckles. “Whatever. The more you rest, the sooner you will heal.”
I smile at his reply.
“Can you please drop me to my bedroom?”
“Sure,” he is about to continue leading me to the bedroom, when Arnav blocks our way. Before I could retort, he leans down and carries me in his arms, almost scooping me. I grip his shoulders to keep my balance.
“Put me down, Arnav. What are you doing?”
“What do you think I am doing?” he scowls. “You are told bed rest which means you can’t stress yourself from walking. I’ll carry you to your bed.”
I am about to argue but NK adds his own remark. “He is right, Khushi. In fact, why didn’t that thought come in my head?
“Only a husband and a true lover can come up with that thought, which is clearly me here, not you.” Arnav snaps at him. “And thanks for bringing her home. You can sit and have coffee while I put Khushi to her bed.”
I am not shocked by Arnav’s possessiveness; he has always been the same. But the way he talked about being a true lover is what annoys me.
“I don’t mind a cup of coffee,” NK says, smiling at both of us.
“Good.”
Arnav shouts for the chef and asks him to make coffees for all of us and then he takes me to my bedroom. I’m still clinging to his body, as he carries me all the way to bed and then lays me on it.
“Hold on,” he says, adjusting two pillows to support my back as I sit. He is about to take off my shoes when I grab his wrist.
“You don’t need to do that?”
He gives me a scornful expression before continuing his actions and gently taking off my sandals. Gosh, this man!! Now he is touching my ankle where the bandage is.
“Arnav, don’t. Stop touching me at every chance you get.”
“I’m just checking how severe your sprain is.”
“Not needed. You are not my doctor?”
“But I am your husband and I need to know this.”
“Why-”
“Shut up,” he snaps. “One more word and I’ll zip your lips.”
Damn hell! He is threatening me?
“You’ll put a tape on my lips? To shut me up?” I glare at Arnav who is busy taking a peek of my ankle.
The moment I bark this, his gaze rises and meet mine.
“There are other ways too.” His grin is mischievous this time.
Kiss? He is talking about kissing me to zip my lips.
“Don’t even think I’ll let you touch me anymore, forget kissing, Arnav Singh Raizada.”
“We’ll see.”
He takes another pillow and then places it below my hurt ankle to elevate it.
“This should give you some relief. What else did the doctor say?”
I don’t reply because I don’t need his concern. Arnav reaches my side of the bed and pulls my chin to make me look into his eyes.
“I might be the last person you want to share your pain with at the moment, but I am not asking much, am I?”
“That’s what my point is. I don’t want you to be concerned for me when you didn’t care to show any before. You have hurt me in uncountable ways, Arnav for only one fault of mine and that was to never love you back. You can’t force me to love you, neither then nor now. So, if you really want to see me fine, I suggest you leave this room, now.”
He gives me a pained expression before leaving my chin.
“One chance.. to fix this Khushi. That’s all I ask. Is it so hard to give someone a second chance?”
“Ask that yourself,” I snap. “Did you even listen to me when I told you I’d no clue why you were hurting me?”
Arnav clenches his jaw.
“So this is a tit-for-tat then? The only way you see we can sort this?” he asks. “If yes, then what is the difference between what I did to you and what you are doing to me now?”
“I didn’t torture you Arnav. Never did I insult you before my friends and family. You did all of that. Whatever pain you inflicted on me consciously or subconsciously, thinking I was also equally involved with my father to ruin you and your family six years back, is not something I can ever overcome and still accept you as my life partner only because you and I spent a night where we lost control on our desires.. I don’t want any tit-for-tat. I just don’t want you around me or in my life again. Is it so hard to understand?”
I see hurt in his eyes as if he hadn’t expected me to be so clear on what I wanted from him and us.
“You don’t want me around you?” he painfully asks.
“No.”
Arnav sighs audibly at my firm declaration.
“One month and I promise I’ll be gone from here. Please bear me until that.”
One month? What .. what is that supposed to mean? Will he really fly back to India after one month letting me continue my career here? Without his interruption? Before I can analyze all this, the servant walks in with two coffees. One for each one of us. Arnav picks his after the servant serves me first.
“I’ll give your friend some company. You drink that coffee and rest for a while. Call me if you need me.”
Saying that he is out of my room. What the heck!! Despite telling him I don’t want him around me, he wants me to call him if I need him? What is that supposed to mean? And .. that one month promise he made, will he abide by it?
*******************
Arnav’s POV
One month!! I don’t know how I could come up with that but I don’t want to leave Khushi ever. Not in one month… one year.. or this birth either. I want her to be my forever but I know the scars I gave to her emotionally are too painful for her to bear. She is not going to let me in her life easily and I’ll have to work hard to get in her heart. One month seems very less to do all of that. I’ll figure something out though. I come out, sipping my coffee only to find NK checking a few photos of Lavanya and her family hanging on the wall.
“Don’t even think about her,” I chide before taking my seat on the couch and offering him the one opposite to me.
“Oh.. that…” he grins. “I just.. happened to see the photos and couldn’t help myself from checking them closely. Who is she? Your sister or…”
“Friend.. A very close friend.”
“Oh wow.. Is she a model too?”
“Business woman,” I snap sipping some more coffee. “How exactly did this accident happened on the set?” I come to the point.
“Oh.. It was a very casual one. Khushi was shooting and these days considering she is in a lot of stress, she didn’t see the next step while getting down the stairs. That’s how she fell down and hurt her ankle. But don’t you worry, the doctor said she will be fine in 3 days.”
“2 days,” I remind him the same which Khushi did a while ago.
He chuckles and holds his ear.
“Sorry, yeah. Two days. I’m too bad with numbers.”
I don’t smile and keep drinking my coffee just like NK does. I clearly see he feels intimidated by me.
“All okay with Khushi apart from her loss of presence, at the sets?” I poke him again with my queries.
“Yes. She is brilliant in handling everything. Khushi is made for modelling you know. That sponsor is a trouble at times but she handles him too very tactfully.”
“What trouble?” I become alert.
NK is confused if he has to tell me but he realizes if he doesn't, he would be in more trouble. Soon he tells me how her sponsor keeps eyeing on Khushi and how she has been managing to escape his lustiness all the time. In fact, she is even faking that all is well in her married life when once her sponsor tried to flirt with Khushi, so as to show him no matter what she wouldn’t ever think about him or any other man apart from her husband. Hmm!!
I take out my wallet and handover my business card to NK.
“What is this for?” he asks blatantly.
“If Khushi is in any kind of threat or trouble, you’ll call me straight away.”
“Oh..” she smiles. “Don’t worry, she wouldn’t need you. She is a fighter.”
“And I am her husband. Even if she doesn't need me to fight her battles, I would want to see how she fights hers without me. Not that I wouldn’t be proud if she handles things on her own. I just want to be there as her backup because that’s what partners do for each other.”
NK is stunned for a minute.
“I can’t believe you are the same man who practically hurt Khushi so much in the past..”
“I’m not that man anymore, NK.. nor I want to be. Khushi and her happiness is my only priority now and I wish she sees that too some day.”
NK smiles.
“I’ll call you and keep you updated. Sure, you don’t want me to tell Khushi anything about it,” he confirms and I nod in agreement.
NK is smart and I like that Khushi has a friend like him around. He is a good man. I can say that!!
He then finishes his coffee and gets up to leave. I escort him till the door, also taking the number of the doctor she had visited to get her sprain treated. NK stops at the door and turns back to me.
“I’m not very good learning women’s behavior either but I can assure you they like to befriend with their man first before falling in love with him.”
I don’t understand a word he said. NK pats my arm.
“Be her friend first… she’ll definitely fall for you one day if your love for her is that strong.”
I swallow knowing the depth behind those lines now.
“I’ll take your advice.”
NK smiles.
“Good. All the best.”
And then he is gone. Friend!! He is right. Khushi needs to see me as her friend first so that she can then read my heart and feelings for her. Maybe I could use this to begin my one month promise I gave her.
To be Continued.

ReplyDeleteYup very tactful way dosti se pyaar
ReplyDeleteSach mei yar this is what i was always afraid of arnav really crossed limits in his humiliating khushi stunts and pay back game. Forced marriage, trapping, or tricking khushi would still be considerable q k its not new ye tu purani riwayat h for Arshi but the abusive, degrading and humiliating words he had used khushi in front of the world in the start was downright devastating and shattering. I was afraid those could be unforgivable and forgettable:/
ReplyDeleteIf roles were reversed and Arnav was the one who had faked his love to get intimate with Khushi and then Khushi overheard him telling his friends that he will marry someone from his class and she was just a timepass, would he have been forgiven by you all so easily? Khushi keeps thinking that her mistake was not falling for arnav so she can't be held responsible and her father did the rest. Does she realize what she did by playing with someone feeling for sexual pleasure. If roles were reversed, everyone would be encouraging Khushi to become successful and get revenge on Arnav
