CHAPTER 7
KHUSHI GUPTA
I march into my bedroom, angry on Dad as he talked unnecessarily about death. I’ve lost Dhruv, I cannot lose anyone else so close to me.
“Khushi,” Dad follows me inside the bedroom. It’s just been few hours since we are at Raizadas farm house for the weekend.
“Dad please,” I turn around. “I don’t want to talk to anybody right now.”
“Oh dear,” he pulls me for a hug and though I resist at first, I give in and hug him back. “Sorry, Khushi. I really didn’t mean to upset you.”
“But you did,” I raise my head and look at him. “I love you too much to even think of a day without you in it, Dad.”
He smiles and kisses my forehead.
“I know, Khushi. And I love you back equally. But I was just expressing my worry. My son is getting married to Anjali and he’ll always have her by his side. Likewise I want you to have the right life partner and I don’t think my hunt for that man will ever stop.”
My heart skips a beat. I know his hunt will never stop until he sees me married. And that’s the exact reason why I’d taken the decision to accept the alliance of Arnav Singh Raizada so that Dad doesn’t make me go through that painful process further. When life throws challenges at you, all you can do is pick the safest way to end it all. Arnav Singh Raizada is that safe option for me. He belongs to the Raizadas, a family whom my parents trust. He is everything my father is looking for in my life partner. If I deny marrying him, Dad will keep parading me before other suitors in the coming weeks and months until I pick one and settle down with. It will be wiser if I agree to marry the man whom they trust. That’s the only reason why I’d mentally prepared myself to go ahead with the alliance. Only if Arnav Singh Raizada had taken it seriously.
“I thought you already have stopped your hunt,” I murmur after a long gap.
He is confused.
“I didn’t get you, Khushi. Why would I stop looking for possible grooms for you?”
“Because you already have the best man in mind for me.”
He slowly connects the dots.
“You mean Arnav?”
“Yes.” I swallow but nod in agreement.
“But he denied the proposal, didn’t he?” he exhales.
“Only because he thought I was against it,” I sigh. “In fact, when I confessed my approval to this alliance, before him and Shyam, he still didn’t take me seriously.”
Dad’s eyes shine with excitement.
“Hold on. You agreed to marry Arnav? You.. you even told him that? When?”
His anxiety is on another level knowing I was interested in marrying Arnav Singh Raizada. So, not to waste more time, I tell Dad about that little meeting between me, him and Shyam the last week. He is overjoyed at first but then he cups my face.
“Khushi, are you sure of this? I don’t want you to say a yes only because of me.”
“I am sure, Dad.” I fake a smile. “It’s just that when you suddenly proposed at first, I was too confused to make a decision on the spot and that’s why Arnav thought I was been forced into this alliance. So he rejected. I don’t see any other reason why he doesn’t want to marry me otherwise.”
Dad happily laughs agreeing to my point and takes me in his embrace again.
“Oh Khushi. You have no idea how much happy I am today. I rooted for you two to be a couple some day. Believe me, Arnav is the best life partner you could get.”
Best? Huh! I don’t know what to say but so far I have no choice apart from agreeing for this alliance and then giving it some months to decide if I was really prepared to go ahead with the marriage or not. Arnav being Dhruv’s twin, it was not going to be easy. Having the same face of the man I loved as my husband would hurt me all the more for lifetime. Until I got used to the fact that Dhruv and Arnav were two different personalities and I could sustain being the latter’s wife, even if I wouldn’t love him ever, would take some time.
ARNAV SINGH RAIZADA
The next morning, I’d skipped eating the breakfast with the family, as I had a few client calls to attend. Of course Di and Nani were unhappy that despite being on a holiday, I was never with them to enjoy the family time. Even my Lunch was sent to my room which I appreciated. By evening when I finally winded up my work and came out looking for everyone, the servant smiled at me.
“Congratulations Sir,” he wished.
“For?” I look around, trying to locate where everyone is.
“For your upcoming wedding, Sir.”
I quickly stare back at him.
“Di is getting married. Not me. Have you lost your mind?”
The servant looks down apologetically.
“Sorry Sir, I just wished you because Anjali Di told me that your alliance is fixed too. Sorry.”
He quickly gets back into the kitchen leaving me clueless. Di told him that? Why would she do it? I make my way to the living room only to meet Shashi Uncle on way.
“There you are..” Uncle smiles and gives me a quick hug. “You are a gem, Arnav. And I’m so glad that this gem is going to be my son-in-law.”
What? Is he still living in that dream of making me his son-in-law?
“Uncle, you know that’s not possible.” I repeat what I had told him even earlier.
He laughs nodding his head.
“Okay tell me one thing..” Uncle squeezes my shoulders, looking seriously in my eyes. “If Khushi agrees for the wedding, will you marry her?”
“Uncle .. I..”
“yes or no, Arnav?” he interrupts.
I roll my eyes.
“Arnav, c’mon. What if Khushi is willingly ready for this proposal, will you marry her or still reject her?”
“Of course I’ll marry her but..”
“That’s it..” he pauses me again and gives me another hug. “Congratulations, son. I’m so happy for you two.”
Happy for us? Did he get to know that Khushi had come to my office the other day and she agreed to marry me? But I know she didn’t mean it by heart. I am about to speak to uncle about it when his phone rings.
“Oh, that’s our priest’s call. Excuse me.”
He walks away to attend the call leaving me speechless.
“Chotte,” Di rushes to me and pinches my cheeks. “Congratulations. Finally, I’m going to see my Chotte tying a knot soon.”
I stop her from pinching my cheeks further.
“Di what’s wrong with everyone? Why is everyone suddenly talking about my marriage?”
“Because you are getting married to Khushi, Chotte.”
What? My heart beats frantically. What is she saying? I rarely got nervous but today after being congratulated by almost everyone from my family and the Guptas, is enough to churn my stomach.
“Chotte, now you can’t deny that you are not interested in this alliance. Khushi herself has admitted and given her approval for this marriage alliance before everyone. And none of us has missed noticing how your gaze always holds Khushi’s whenever you two are in the same room,” Di giggles.
I’m about to retort when Garima aunty reaches me and cups my face.
“Khushi is so lucky to get a life partner like you. I know she can blindly trust you, Arnav. She has made the right decision this time.” Aunty kisses my forehead whereas Shashi Uncle pats my back as he joins her.
“This calls for a celebration. I’m opening the most expensive red wine tonight. What say, Shyam?” Uncle exclaims.
I stare at Shyam to know what’s happening but when he looks at me and nods, I can sense he too is confused as me but is hesitant to do anything about it because this time Khushi has gone one step ahead by giving both the families her consent. I think the only person who can answer my queries now is Khushi herself.
“Where is Khushi?” I finally ask, curbing my inner conflict.
“She is with Nani in her room,” Di replies.
Before she can enlighten me further, I march towards Nani’s room and barge inside the door only to see Nani making Khushi wear the Raizada family’s ancestral bangles which were last worn by my late mother.
“Arnav,” Nani smiles at me. But that’s not what I notice first.
I see Khushi stiffen at my sudden appearance here. She keeps her eyes low, unable to meet my gaze as I enter the room further.
“You finally got time for the family, huh?” Nani mocks. “This won’t work in the future, Chotte. Now that Khushi is going to be your wife, we all want you to prioritize between your work and family life. Right Khushi?”
Khushi is speechless at Nani’s query. I reach the bed where they are seated.
“Look, how beautiful your mother’s bangles look on her, Arnav.” Nani strokes the bangles on Khushi’s hand and my gaze falls on her shivering form instead. She is extremely unprepared to face me. If that’s the case, why the hell did she approve our alliance?
The door knocks behind me and Shashi Uncle walks in.
“Sorry to interrupt you all, but Devyaniji, it’s the priest call again. Can you please come outside so we can decide?” he says.
“Oh sure, Shashi. As is, the kids need some private time to talk here. I’ll come with you.”
Khushi quickly rises on her feet to follow her when Nani stops her.
“Where are you coming? I’m sure Arnav has a lot of queries for you, and its better if you both talk it out.”
Khushi looks nervous at Nani’s words but she doesn’t reject her advice. Nani and Shashi Uncle leave the room. The moment we are left alone, Khushi turns away from me.
“Are you out of your mind?” I try not to be too loud as the family is just outside this room. “You agreed for our marriage?”
She doesn’t say a word nor she turns to look at me. It aggravates me all the more. A woman who was so unwilling to even give me a glance wanted to be my wife?
“Khushi look at me..” I command.
When she doesn’t obey, I lose my patience and striding towards her, I whirl her around. She hisses as I pull her close, with our faces just few inches away.
“Marriage might be a joke to you, Khushi Gupta. For me, it’s a lifetime commitment. So, now answer me.”
Tears pool in her eyes but this time she doesn’t look away and keeps staring into my eyes.
“Just coming this close to me has brought tears in your eyes. If we marry, I’d want to be even closer than this. I want my wife to give me every single right on her mind, soul and.. her body. I want her smiles.. I want her tears.. I want her to share her silly demands and open up her dark secrets too. Are you ready for all of that?”
She looks at me in horror.
“If the answer to my question is no, then I want you to end this madness right away Khushi Gupta because I will never tolerate anyone playing with the feelings of my family like you are doing at this moment.”
She bites her lower lip, probably to curb a whimper and all my anger instantly mellows down. That lip she is biting is not meant for any pain, but to be devoured, loved and worshipped. I’d done it before.. and if she is willing to accept me as a husband in every sense in the future, like I just clarified to her about, I would worship every inch of her fragile heart bringing the whole world at her feet.

Khushi is selfish here.. she is playing with arnav feelings
ReplyDeleteThis is so harsh and so soon to stigmatized someone.
DeleteSelfish Khushi!!!! Why ruin Arnav’s life if she can’t love him as her husband?! What is Arnav gaining from this proposal? Nothing!!! Why he should sacrifice his life? He already said No to this proposal, again Khushi wants this marriage to happen but cannot love him. Selfish!!
ReplyDeleteWhat about ASR ruining her life by being con and taking advantage of her especially in her most vulnerable state🤢
DeleteYes you are right, Kushi is very selfish here. She states that she could never ever love him as a husband but when on to propose Arnav as her groom to her dad even after Arnav rejecting the proposal earlier. In the previous chapter also even after Arnav claiming that he is actually Arnav and not Dhruv, it was Kushi who mistook him as Dhruv and kissed him.Arnav loves Kushi sincerely in this story.
DeleteAgree with you…Kushi is selfish here.
DeleteEven though Khushi is my all-time fave character in IPKKND, I do agree with you. Arnav has a very valid point about marriage and he's absolutely right in pointing out to Khushi the matrimonial rights of a married couple. He also told Khushi of his expectations in their marriage, which he's taking them very seriously, while Khushi doesn't even actually realise what she is getting into with this marriage with Arnav and she also has to realise that Arnav is not Dhruv, who was a complete opposite of Arnav.
DeleteAwesome Update. Khushi is compromising by marrying Arnav. Arnav is only an option for her😢. While Arnav loves her so much which Khushi is unaware of. Khushi agreed to marry Arnav just for her parents. Khushi is experimenting with an institution like marriage. But from her view point maybe it's right as she don't know Arnav acted like Dhruv and the man she loved was Arnav. Now that Arnav has come to know Khushi has agreed to marry him will Arnav reveal the truth that it was him who was with her. Arnav loves Khushi so much. Hope Khushi too start loving Arnav. Dhruv wasn't a nice guy anyway and wasn't suitable for Khushi. Thanks for the Update😍
ReplyDeleteKushi is not right even from her own view point. How can she spoil someone else life in the name of marriage when she is not ready to accept him as her husband? Arnav is made into a scape goat.
DeleteIs arnav on gun point to marry just because khushi agree to marry?
DeleteIn this story, I feel very bad for Arnav.
DeleteASR is so sensible n accurate in his demand but where did his this sensibility went away when he is hiding such a big secret of their life to Khushi...Hope so ASR's these word makes Khushi realize that she just cannot be submerged in her own world...A world where there she should also consider other's expectation especially ASR
ReplyDeleteAashi
Let me tell a fact about arshi world, arnav pe saath khoon maaf hyn BUT........ khushi ko sazae mout if she even think about just hurting......... its a bitter truth so guarantee lelo would digest it or accept it..........
ReplyDelete*No one would
DeleteArnav is right on his place about not wanting to do this marriage and also good that he expressed all his expectations from this marriage to khushi but im not able to understand how this make him a victim and khushi an attacker.
ReplyDeleteFor starters ASR is a grown up, self made man who can easily agree or disagree on things and can't be forced for anything, so if he had any problem with Khushi, her decisions or marriage than why he isn't coming out loud and clear, why he isn't declaring his unacceptance or unwillingness of this marriage and end it for once and all.
Secondly, If khushi is ready to do arrang marriage even if its just for her parents than how come this made her selfish. She is willing to do anything for the sake of her family, how does such person be called as selfish. Upon she never said that she will never accept this marriage or arnav for that matters. She just agreed on doing something her family asked her to do, so how can we assume her playing with others feelings, not accepting arnav by heart, and all that sort of blaming things.
Thirdly, everyone knows that its an arshi fiction, so they have to, have to be together nad love each other no matter whats with all the anger on khushi.
Fourth, according to everyone dhruv was prick and used khushi and she only ever loved arnav only so how come now she is playing with his feelings and being selfish. She always loved arnav right, than why the blame game?
Everyone lseems to forget the sins disclosed of arnav's in the previous chapter so easily just to blame khushi of all the mess. Very unfair.
Arnav is a victim here because even after coming out “ loud and clear” of not wanting to marry Khushi , she went onto convince her dad that Arnav rejected her proposal only because he thought that she isn’t interested. She went a further ahead and proposed Arnav for marriage to her dad, making it difficult for Arnav to reject the proposal again.
DeleteShe is called selfish because instead of coming clean about Dhruv to her family she wanted to marry Arnav as he is the best option for her in this situation and also claiming that she would never ever love him as a husband.
Would her family stop asking her to marry after knowing her dead love story? Would they let her live a miserable life and suffer all through her life by living lyk a widow and Would never wished to get married? Would they be happy knowing about her reason of agony? You all want her to tell her family about something which is already out of their hands a thing which would do nothing except give them a life long hurt.
DeleteAnd arnav hasn't denied marrying her bcoz he doesn't want to get married to her, he denied before bcoz according to him khushi doesn't want to get married to him. This is the point which no one seems to notice. Arnav doesn't want khushi to marry him bcoz he thinks khushi will not accept him and wouldn't give her heart, mind and BODY to him. The submission of the body is the main concern for him. Its all his assumptions. Also, there isn't any time constraints option to deny. If he had denied once he can do it again and again. I don't think he isn't capable enough to be forced into anything against his will. Or you think he is a victim bcoz he can't deny, can't deny bcoz of his family? If he can't deny his family than how can we expect khushi to deny her family? Neither arnav is a baby to be victimise for such things nor khushi is selfish to do things to make her parents happy or accepting reality and trying to move on. They are both adults and powerful enough to take decisions on their own.
So much toxicity in the comment section! For a change, I stand by Arnav. He is very sensible and mature here (in this story). He is very right in his demands. He just needs to tell her the truth. He needs to live for himself as he also deserves a happy life.
DeleteFrom which angle this comment section looks toxic to you? People here are discussing and exposing their POVs and taking sides of their favs, showing their support. Now is this also a crime. I think yours is the only comment who show toxicity which is full of negativity.
DeleteCool down guys it’s just a fictional story!
DeleteAnyways his/her comment has no negativity in it.He/she expressed her view point that’s it.May be trying to mock the characters and the urge to fight it out is what she/he meant by toxicity. At the end it’s just a fan fiction! Let everyone express their view points in a sensible manner.Cheers!!
💗💗💗💗💗💗
ReplyDeleteHe is right in his place. But because of his mistake she is in this place. So yeah ... Tell her truth and then let her decide.
Khushi loves Dhruv that's not Arnav's fault, Khushi always overlooked Dhruv's flaws that's why she is still in love with him.... Arnav even tried to make her understand it's ASR not Dhruv, but she was way too vulnerable in the blind love that she couldn't see beyond Dhruv.. Khushi's marriage has to happen if not ASR then with someone else. But she could have told her family about her relationship with Dhruv and Arnav too should come clean with Khushi regarding their previous encounter/intimate moments. Both need to be transparent to each other as well to their families and then decide about getting married. Marriage is a lifetime commitment as Arnav said, spending some moments and spending entire Life is poles apart things. Anyways I have full faith in our beloved writer, she will do Full justice to ArShi 🤩🤩 BTW Funny to see some Counting Arnav's sins or accusing Khushi being Selfish 🤣🤣 🤣🤣 CALM DOWN GUYS AND ENJOY MADHU'S MAGICAL CREATIONS ❣️❣️
ReplyDeleteBeautiful one read all the chapters in a go
ReplyDeleteI don’t understand this khushi! She knows Dhruv wasn’t the best lover. They had their issues. She enjoyed her moment when it was Arnav. Arnav didn’t tell her that he wasn’t Dhruv which was very wrong!
ReplyDeleteSo how come she can’t distinguish those two people? And why she is madly in love with a playboy like Dhruv?
I know when it comes love people can lose sense! But in reality we need to move on! If khushi doesn’t want to move on or she isn’t ready yet she should tell her parents that she had an affair and that person is dead now so she can’t think of a marriage at the moment!
It’s not like khushi or her family has other problems! They are rich! Healthy! Understanding parent! So why is she hiding that affair? She doesn’t need to tell them about the person.
I hate Arnav for acting like Dhruv and still hiding that thing from Khushi!
Nice one!
Dis_arshi
I think Arnav should tell her the truth
ReplyDeleteSuperb Arshi getting married I can’t wait
ReplyDeleteOnly because of her family Khushi shouldn't marry Arnav.
ReplyDeletePeople are so delusional and machoistic lover hear. When it comes to their blind love for ASR khushi is the most vivacious and bad person in the world. Only their fragile ASR is a innocent and victim and khushi on the other hand is the monster no matter whatever story is.
ReplyDeleteThe number of dislikes shows how right im.
DeleteSorry in this story , I have to agree with the above comments.Arnav made it easy for kushi by rejecting the proposal but again she is going ahead with the proposal. But could never ever love him as a husband (stated by Kushi) making Arnav a victim. So no one is delusional here.
ReplyDeleteKhushi is right in her place. She knew that even in future she can't marry anyone but her family will not let her stay single for whole life. So it's better she accept the family choice at least they will be happy. Even Arnav is not ready to marry any other women, so he should accept the proposal just like Khushi instead of feeling bad. At least may be in future they will make it work.
ReplyDeleteExactly man! Khushi has to get married in some point of her life. Her parents would want her to marry one day so why not marry not with the most trusted and eligible person now? You know what! Even If khushi had refused to marry right now bcoz of her reasons of being in love with someone else or not being able to love anyone else, than also she would be called names and hated with thoughts like can't she marry for happiness of her family, why she is punishing her parents for the mistakes of other, does that man is more important than her own parents, how can she hurt her parents and bla bla bla.
DeleteMistake of other? It’s her own mistake!! No man is important than her own parents, so why not get married for parents and make the guy a scapegoat, when she is so sure that she could not ever love him as a husband.
DeleteKushi is wrong here.Instead of proposing Arnav , she should come clean about her love for Dhruv to her family. Why marry someone when you cannot accept him as your husband and ruin their life?!
ReplyDeleteWhy wait for someone who isn't ever gonna come back?! Why give her family pain by not moving on?! Why ruin her family happiness for someone who is dead?! Why not think and give importance to her family who had loved, cared, supported her from the time she is born?
DeleteAnd many more such accusations would be coming towards khushi if she had done what you want her to do. She would be blamed no matter what.
Yes! So instead of taking the blame, let’s make Arnav a scapegoat.
DeleteOh poor delicate Arnav 🤧 don't even have the guts to take a stand for himself and become a scapegoat in the hands of a mere selfish woman.
DeleteHa ha.. the comment section is so funny!! Let everyone express their POV without mocking.Anyways even I too feel Kushi is selfish here.
Delete"""Best? Until I got used to the fact that Dhruv and Arnav were two different personalities and I could sustain being the latter’s wife, even if I wouldn’t love him ever, would take some time""""
ReplyDeleteAccording to me this means that she just needs some time to let everything sink in and she will try her best to accept the marrige as well as arnav. She just states the probability of not being able to love him but she still is thinking on the lines of being able to be arnav's wife. She never promised to never love arnav neither not accept him as her husband. All she asked for some time which i don't think is so difficult to give. She deserves it. Even arnav deserves some time to mend his mistakes towards khushi.
Even if I wouldn’t love him “ever” - explains everything!
DeleteFinally someone understands the meaning of “ever”..lol. First time commenting… yes I also agree with the previous comments that Kushi is selfish.I feel bad for Arnav.
DeleteMay be you guys don't understand English much so let me explain your favourite dialogue in hindi. " even if i would not love him ever = bhale hi agar mei kabhi usse piyaar na karon"..... IF..... IF.EVER.....AGAR..... AGAR.KABHI..... now try to understand the meaning and appreciate it....
DeleteIndian American here.English is my first language.”Ever” means not at any time, not happening under any circumstances. So the previous comments are right about the meaning of “ever”.
DeleteYes , you are right! “Wouldn’t ever” means - not at any time. May be the Hindi translation has some other meaning.I am not very good at Hindi.
DeleteThis is getting more interesting, Now Arnav started Demanding and also mellowing down at the same time.......
ReplyDeleteWaiting for Khushi's answers in next part.....it was Awesome♥♥♥
“ I will never tolerate anyone playing with the feelings of my family like you are doing at this moment.” Ha ha my favorite quote from this chapter! Rightly said by Arnav! Why should he tolerate her for playing with the feelings of others? I am glad Arnav stood up against her.
ReplyDeleteKushi doesn’t deserve Arnav! Playing with other’s feelings is not ok.Being a relationship counselor, I can say that she is surely a red flag when it comes to relationship.
DeleteThan i would surely welcome diagnosis of arnav from the previous chapter too. Kindly go through it and diagnosis which flag arnav is and does HE deserves khushi or not.
DeleteAfter analyzing I find Kushi’s behavior more problematic but at the same time Arnav needs to have an open conversation about his previous encounters , as keeping secrets between couple is also not good.
DeleteYes you are 100% right, being a counsellor yourself you can’t be wrong. It’s not good to play with others feelings when you are not sure. Kushi seriously is a red flag, I really appreciate your comment.
DeleteIf she is not sure then why she playing with feelings of family and also arnav.
ReplyDeleteThey both need to talk and start fresh
Khushi can do whatever she wants. Poor girl going through so much because of Arnav. If she marries Arnav, she can easily divorce him and go back to Dhruv if he comes back ( in case if he is not dead ).
ReplyDeleteNow only madhu can decide and tell us that did she really meant to portray Khushi now as vamp as everyone have got it while the starting basis of the story was the twins being vamp in Khushi story or people have made a mountain out of grain in their misconception and favoritism.
ReplyDeleteI don’t think Kushi is a vamp but she is definitely not being fair to Arnav. She failed to think or take any decision from his POV.
ReplyDeleteWhy Arnav needs to be punished in a loveless marriage for no fault of his?
Why she is so shocked when Arnav expressed his expectations from the marriage?
For her, it’s only Dhruv and her dad.
She didn’t even make any attempt to give the marriage any chance. As someone in the comment section said that “would not ever “ explains everything.
Yes , I agree Khushi not being fair to Arnav. I don’t think Madhu wanted to portray Khushi as a vamp on intention. It just happened with the flow of the story. But I do feel Arnav’s character is going to do lot of sacrifices and give up his happiness for others.
ReplyDeleteKhushi will divorce Arnav after marriage. She will then go and live with Dhruv as I think he is not dead and will be back soon.
ReplyDeleteI also feel the same. This time Dhruv will be back as a love sick puppy, head over heels in love with Khushi.
DeleteArnav is so right.. waiting to hear what Khushi have to say in reply.. she need to understand the gravity of her decision.. awesome chapter.. loved it.. Thank you Madhu
ReplyDeleteKhushi have agreed for the wedding.. Arnav’s anger justified as she never agrees to it willingly.. Awesome update
ReplyDeleteWhat i want is arnav tell everything to khushi before their marriage so tgat khushi gets to know that dhruv actually ended things between them before he died and so that she gets to know the person she fall for after break up wad arnav .arnav wants his wife to share everything with no secrets he should also do the same .
ReplyDeleteAwesome parts
ReplyDeleteBoth Arnav and Khushi should come clean and be transparent to each other at least in order to lead a happy married life. They may take time but need to do it eventually.
ReplyDelete
