“Shashi… Did you notice the same thing which I did?” Buaji asks her brother who is busy checking his emails.
“What Madhumati” his gaze is fixed on his laptop.
“Khushi is behaving little odd these days”
Shashi moves his gaze to Buaji. Anything related to his daughter is a matter of concern for him.
“What does that mean?”
“Today she has gone for Dinner with your Boss’s Son…”
Shashi sighs shaking his head.
“I know that. She told me. It’s all because her software is approved and they wanted to treat her”
“That is fine, Shashi. But you should have seen the joy on her face today. Felt like she got a lifetime achievement award. She was being so choosy about her dress as if she isn’t going to see her Boss but her boyfriend. And she didn’t wear her casual denims, she wore a Salwar Kurta that too with that pompoms on it. Who wears that for an official Dinner? I think she has either lost her mind or the matter is something else.
Shashi hesitates in the beginning.
“Madhumati.. Khushi knows the lines between us and them”
“I hope so. But that really makes me wonder, what if she has crossed that line?”
Shashi’s mood drops. He too had been noticing the difference in Khushi’s attitude ever since she is back. She seems to be drawn to AR Company and the Raizada family so much as if her day begins and ends thinking about them. This is a matter of concern which he should be seriously acting upon.
“I will talk to her openly about this once she is back” Shashi mutters.
“No.. don’t do that. She might think we are spying on her intentions. What if all this is false?”
“Then what do you suggest we do?”
Buaji thinks for a minute.
“I will show her horoscope to the Priest and even check for some marriage proposals for her.” She suggests.
Shashi nods in dismissal.
“Madhumati.. she is not even 25”
“This is at the right age to marry Shashi. Look at me, I kept ignoring good proposals during my age and when I wished to get married, I never found the right guy. I don’t want Khushi to suffer like me”
Shashi sighs at the comparison his sister made but agrees.
“Fine.. I will also check with my close people and see if there is any such guy who can suit Khushi and match our profile”
“Yes, that’s better” Madhumati sighs and continues cutting the veggies.

Sea Pearl Hotel
When Khushi gets down from the cab at the Hotel, she finds Arnav talking to the Hotel Manager at the reception. There are few Fire Extinguisher people rushing in the backside of the Hotel building. Something is wrong. Arnav finishes his talks and feels her presence before even seeing her. It’s a very unusual feeling, he himself is powerless to understand why he feels so driven when she is around. He turns and watches her staring right back at him. The dress she is wearing brings out some the memories of his 22nd Birthday fresh in his mind. She purposely chose a similar dress, didn’t she? This dinner is going to be that one opportunity when she will try her best to convince him and she is perfectly doing that. She has managed to grab his attention by that dress for sure. She neatens the pompoms of her sleeves and waits for him to come out. He heads out straight to her.
“We cannot dine here” he says putting his hands in pockets and avoids asking her the significance of wearing this Salwar Suit tonight.
“Why? What happened?”
“A fire mishap in the kitchen of the Hotel, they have shut all services, including the reservations”
“I hope no one is hurt” she asks with concern.
“No one is hurt” he replies.
He has always appreciated that quality in her. Even if her day is bad, she will still worry and want others to have a good day. She is caring and he has always seen that traits in her from childhood.
“I will ask Pam to find the next best place and reserve a table there” he is about to take his phone out when she interrupts.
“I know a place. We can go there. And its nearby too”
Arnav gives her a sharp look.
“This is a treat from AR side, we don’t need your inputs in reservations” he snaps.
“Okay..” she crosses her arms. “Go ahead. I don’t mind if we have to waste some more time together, till Pam finds another hotel and makes a reservation.”
Arnav understands her point. All of this might even take an hour, plus the driving time to the next restaurant will add more to it.
“Fine.. Which place?” he keeps his phone back.
Khushi smiles.
“Give me a minute” she walks away from him to make a quick call. Arnav has no clue what she is up to. His phone rings. It’s Sheetal. He answers the call without any delay.
“Hey”
“Arnav.. I am at Shantivan and your father told me you are out for Dinner with Shashi Gupta’s daughter”
“Uh.. Yea. That’s right”
“Ridiculous. You don’t have time for me but for such petty employee’s daughter?” she growls.
“Sheetal what is wrong with you? Gupta is a very senior employee of the company and has been loyal to us. Don’t talk about him like that. And his daughter has saved a lot of money and efforts by building a Software for us. Dad wanted me to take her for a treat”
“But why You? Anyone else could have given her a treat. Why you out of all?”
Her question is genuine.
“It is done Sheetal.. We cannot change that now. I will see you tomorrow”
“No, you can’t” she gasps angrily. “I am going to Maldives with my friends.”
Arnav is confused when did this happen?
“I hope you didn’t expect me to sit crying behind you for not giving time to me. I have my own life and I know how to live it to the fullest” she scowls.
Arnav rolls his eyes.
“You are informing me now?”
“Don’t point at me, Arnav. Did you even bother to tell me about this dinner treat with Gupta’s daughter?”
“Fair enough” he snaps. “When are you returning?”
“A week later. I hope you miss me”
Khushi finishes her call and returns to him. His eyes are glued on her and that’s when he realizes the very first difference between the two women he is currently juggling between. Khushi’s world have always started and ended around him and Sheetal has her own world which she will never sacrifice for anyone.
“Have a safe trip” he mutters and hangs up after Sheetal does.
“Chale” (Shall we go?) Khushi asks with a cheerful smile.
Arnav calls his Driver who gets the car and drives them according to Khushi’s instructions. Arnav feels like he knows the place where they are going.
“That’s it. Here we are” Khushi asks the driver to park the car aside. They get down. It’s a small restaurant and Arnav recollects being here before. He doesn’t remember when and why?
“I have been here” he mumbles.
“Yes, you have. Mohan Chacha’s son’s birthday” she reminds with a chuckle.
Arnav nods. Mohan is their driver who had cordially invited the Raizada family on his Son’s 10th birthday. But his father had been out on Business trip and mother wouldn’t appear in such a low budget party. Arnav didn’t want Mohan to feel bad and hence decided to attend it. He recollects Khushi and Shashi were invited too. She was the only one he knew in that party apart from Shashi Gupta and hence had chosen to spend time with her.
“Khushi..” a woman in late 40’s comes and hugs her.
“How are you Geeta Aunty?” Khushi asks.
“I am absolutely good. You look so cute? Just like you were before. I am glad you chose our restaurant for dinner tonight with your friend” Geeta gives a blushing stare to Arnav who has no clue how the owner of this restaurant knows Khushi?
“Anyways, I have reserved the best seat for you two. Please come” Geeta leads them inside.
“How do you know her?” Arnav mutters.
“She used to stay in Lakshmi Nagar, one of our Ex neighbors. Though we shifted in the apartment later, we are still in touch with them”
That’s another quality which he has noticed in Khushi. Even if you ask her if she is in contact with her school friends, she will name them all and even show her recent communication with them. Once you befriend with Khushi Gupta, you are friends for the entire life. She is that sort of a girl.
“Please be seated. I will send the waiter to take the order”
“Thank you, Geeta Aunty,” Khushi pulls out a chair for Arnav who raises his brow.
“I should be doing that” he mutters and pulls out the opposite chair for her.
“Thank you” she sits and he takes his seat. There used to be a fish tank here with loads of fishes in it.
“It’s there” Khushi points out, realizing what he is looking for.
“Stop reading my mind all the time” he scowls.
“Can’t help” she pouts. The waiter places the menu card on the table and waits to note their order.
Arnav forwards the card to her so that she can place the order. Khushi doesn’t even open it. She remembers what he will like to eat and starts placing the order.
“Chickpeas Curry, Palak Paneer, Aloo Paratha, Vegetable Biryani, Dal Makhani and Lassi”
Arnav struggles to keep his heart from racing. She knows what his choice of Indian food is. And that’s exactly what they had eaten at Mohan’s son’s birthday. The waiter leaves. Khushi looks back at him.
“How could you possibly remember all that?” he snaps.
“I am obsessed with these dishes actually” she grins. He knows that obsession is for him and everything related to him.
Arnav decides to discuss her love interest on him and explain her it’s impossible whatever she is dreaming about.
“Khushi”
“Do you remember that bench over there” she points at the left corner. “That evening, you and I were sitting there the whole time, chit chatting” she adds.
Arnav swallows. That was the first time he had shared about his hobbies with her. She was so much interested to listen and he somehow couldn’t resist to share his passion for drums.
“I know what you are trying to do” he breaks his own chain of thoughts before it could lose his agenda for tonight.
“What?” she asks innocently.
“Don’t be in a false impression that reminding me of the past will change my mind.”
Khushi takes a deep breath. The directness in his talk is hard to refuse.
“Khushi.. I want you to forget everything and move on”
She shrugs.
“Oh.. Is that why you agreed for the dinner? To put some wise thoughts in my head?”
“You cannot be my choice” he continues pushing her away by his confrontations.
“Your choice or your parents, Arnav?” she asks without hesitation.
Arnav grits his teeth.
“That’s one and the same. Whatever dad and mom decide, will be my choice”
The waiter comes back with a tray of food and starts serving. Khushi asks him to keep the tray and once he leaves, she starts serving Arnav because he is being impatient to make his point clear to her.
“I know they both have done a lot for you. I will always be in their debt too” she answers. “But they cannot take every decision of your life”
“I have given them that right” he gets impatient now.
She doesn’t want him to lose his tolerance and skip the food.
“Let us eat before the food gets cold” she suggests. Arnav has no interest in the food but the aroma is simply tantalizing. And he is hungry. They begin to eat. None of the two speak but Khushi notices how much focused Arnav is while eating. He must not have eaten such home type Indian food from ages for sure. Revati Raizada is never in the kitchen. Arnav’s lunch happens at Office and his Dinners at home include salads and Sandwiches most often. But this boy loves Indian food and she so wishes to cook for him daily and feed him too. That’s why she has learnt his favorite dishes. Looks like soon she will have to offer him to share her food at work. Will he agree?
He is about to drink the Lassi when she stops him.
“What?” he snaps.
“Wait” she says and puts some extra Sugar in it. She had tasted hers and realized he would like some more sugar in it. “Now drink”
Arnav is stunned. She remembers each and every little choice of his and here keeps denying that she can never be his choice. They finish the food and then go for the desserts. She orders for Motichoor ladoo which is again one of his preferences.
“I hope you liked the food” she asks him. “In fact we should be coming here frequently, don’t you think?”
Arnav wipes his lips and frowns.
“I came here only because Dad wanted it and Aman suggested me this is the best way to talk to you and close our past completely”
“Aman” she interrupts. “Yes, he met me too when you were in Mumbai. What did you tell to Aman about us?” she demands to know.
“Everything” he murmurs but not with much confidence.
“Really? I doubt that” she leans back on her chair. “If he had known everything, he wouldn’t give you the advice to close our chapter forever”
Arnav clenches his jaw. She has something strong to cut each and every sentence of his. This has to stop. He holds her hand on the table, pulling her close. There are people around and he doesn’t want them to listen their argument.
“Stop playing mind games, Khushi Gupta. I have told you this before and warning you again now. Whatever happened that night, whatever I said that night to you was not something I wanted or meant. So better stop living in the past and move on.”
He leaves his grip from her and heads to the Cash Counter to settle the bill. Khushi gathers her thoughts, she is not going to let him crush her spirits like this and walk out. She gets up and follows him out.

ReplyDeleteThough Arnav seems to be like a Spineless man right now.We cant ignore the loads of gratitude he is carrying for his adopted parents.
ReplyDeleteSomehow, he didnt get the right upbringing apart from the Raizada surname.
He is oscillating between the right and the wrong.Unless n until, he wishes or his so called God like Revathy Ma gives the green signal, he would be ignoring Khushis attempts.
I earnestly wish that Revathy Raizada should see this cut throat attitude of her would be bahu.She is so proud of her selection.Why should our hero suffer always?
Let the Sasuma should taste that medicine too!
Now, Khushi should change her strategy.She has as such given an open challenge to Arnav.
Now she should ignore that arrogant Raizada family royally.
Her intelligence, caring quality should attract them to her like the Moth to the fire.
Then only, Arnav would know the value of Khushi.
At no point, Khushi should take any taunt or insults from Sheetal or any shameful comparison from.Revathy Raizada.
How I wish to punch the nose of that lady Raizada?

Awesome Update. Arnav is a very weak character here who's life revolves around family who is willing to sacrifice his likes and wishes for the family.There is nothing wrong in it but a man who has no life of his own can neither keep Sheetal nor Khushi happy.Buaji has almost caught Khushi this had to happen Khushi should keep a control on her behaviour.If Shashi Gupta came to know about Khushi 's motto he will restrict her.Arnav must have confessed his feelings in the past but must have backed out knowing his parents wish.If Khushi comes to know about the marriage proposal she will surely do something worse.Arnav must realise the difference between Sheetal and Khushi. Sheetal is a class conscious selfish and self centred girl she is also arrogant and has no morals or values .On the other hand Khushi is so humble and genuine her first and last priority is Arnav. But a man who has no life of his own can neither keep Sheetal nor Khushi happy.Arnav's mom also seems disinterested in Arnav's life.If Arnav continues being so disinterested Khushi will back out one day and Arnav will repent then the story will be more interesting as how Arnav will get Khushi back.Waiting to know what Arnav actually confessed to Khushi in the past.

I feel bad for Khushi.. and she should surely be a but careful around her family. Both Shashi and Buaji are onto her and if she isn't careful they will soon figure out what she is doing.

Just may be.

Did Arnav share his feelings for Khushi before? Hence Khushi is so adamant in winning him. It's pretty clear if Arnav had choice, he would've been with her. But her gratitude towards his parents is stopping him. Beside, deep inside he's not happy. Despite growing up in lixulu,he is still very simple at heart and simple gestures touches his heart as well which very well Khushi Gupta is doing for him.

ReplyDeletehmm so he likes her being caring, being friends for life with people, being obsessed with him. she even thinks of his preferences. heck, she even reads his mind. and he wants to stick to his parents' decisions. sighh .. revathi is a snob and refused to go a party. so its very obvious why sheetal is her choice. unless arnav's dad sees the truth and helps them out, i dont see much hope. even if we know what he confessed on the bday, arnav will keep denying and nobody can do anything. everything is closing in on khushi. her family is already suspecting things and arnav is as stoic as always.

Anyway I'm still hopeless. But today at least arnav noticed khushi even though he doesn't want to give her a chance.

ReplyDeletewhy can't Arnav leave his so called adoptive parents, not that they care for him anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if we knew that Revati Raizada adopted Arnav just to avoid being pregnant ! I know it rediculous to think but the way revati is behaving it seems she is very insensitive.
I really hope Khushi leave Arnav and go back to London. But i am wondering how will she face her father's decision to marry off her. Khushi shouldn't take drastic steps like using her fiance to make Arnav jealous!! It would hurt another person, and khushi is not a person to hurt another. Its her fight, she should fight alone without hurting anyone.
