Chapter 12
Throughout the marriage rituals, Khushi’s eyes wandered around the canopy, with a hope that she can find Payal around who would have come here exclusively to alert her from not marrying the Eldest Grandson of the Raizada Royals. But there are no signs of her. Subhadra Raizada ties the knot of the veil she is wearing on her shoulder, along with Arnav’s and makes her stand for the seven sacred pheras. Their marriage is about to be completed and there is nothing she and Arnav Singh Raizada can do about. Had it been only for knowing Payal’s whereabouts, she would never end up in this mess. But It’s about Payal’s life and the baby which is still inside her. She cannot risk their lives upon anything else she desires. The crowd shower the rose petals over them as they complete the Pheras and all of their wedding rituals hereby, becoming a married couple in the eyes of the society.
She has gone against her father’s will to seek her dreams. She was a free bird so far, chainless, boundless but after marrying today, she has caged herself for no idea how long, only to safeguards her sister and her family. She hopes this decision of hers gives her the desired outcome.
There are “n” number of formalities she goes through in the name of Royal traditions, some of which she doesn’t believe in, some which sounds very scary and some making her responsible for a lot many roles which she isn’t prepared for. Marrying a family like that, has its own pros and cons. Once all that is done, there comes the Bidaai. She hugs her mother, holding tears in her eyes.
“Look after yourself” Garima whispers patting her back.
For one second, Khushi wishes to tell her mother about whatever she has got to know about Payal. She has seen, felt her mother’s worry for the sudden disappearance of Payal. But if she tells her now, she has to tell her all of it which might scare her mother.
“Don’t fear dad” Khushi wipes her mother’s tears. “Start back answering him, stop being a scape goat, Mom”
Arnav Singh Raizada and his friend Anagd, who are standing just few feet away from the two hears it too. Angad laughs.
“What?” Arnav snaps.
“Nothing my friend. I was just wondering if she can give that kind of advice to her mother, what would she do with you?”
Arnav’s jaw clench.
“Shut up Angad”
“I told you, every man’s time is up after marriage. You are just going to experience the same soon”
Arnav frowns again but keeps his mind focused on the present situation.
“Any trace of Payal or Akash?”
“No” Angad gets serious too. “What if they never made it here? I mean… they must have got the news of this wedding for sure, but what if they didn’t care to interfere?”
“Impossible. I have full faith, if not Akash, Payal will definitely try to make the contact with Khushi. And now that Khushi is on our side, this shouldn’t be much difficult to handle”
“Hmm” Angad agrees.

An hour later
Anjali pushes away the gifts placed in her room. Shyam watches her with equal disappointment.
“Nothing is in our favor… nothing..” she shouts. “She had eloped… I know she had eloped from this marriage then why did she come back? Why?”
Shyam reaches her and pulls her in his arms.
“Rani Saheba… Why are you burning your energy so much?”
“How can you ask me that Shyam? My sister should have been Arnav’s bride… not Khushi. She snatched Anjum’s place. How can you expect me to calm down?”
“Because that’s what we can do for now..” he replies. “Khushi might have sounded very confident when she returned but there is something these two are hiding. I can sense that. This marriage is an arrangement and we need to find out what made them do it?”
Anjali is still not satisfied.
“Even if its an arrangement, how will it benefit us?” she snaps.
“Rani Saheba… You are too impatient. Let us just blend in for some time. We are been watched not only by the family, but the outsiders too. We have a public image to maintain. If we show our bitterness towards Arnav – Khushi’s marriage, we will be soon caught”
Anjali slowly calms down. He is right. They have to blend in for some time. Show that their family is perfect!! The door knock breaks their conversation. A servant gets inside.
“Daadiji has called you both down. It’s time for Griha Pravesh of the new Bride”
The servant leaves and Shyam looks back to Anjali.
“I hope you have our gift ready for the couple” he asks.
“I am not giving that necklace to her. It is supposed to be for my sister, Anjum”
Anjali had specially designed a necklace for Anjum in the hope that she would become Arnav’s bride someday.
“I will give her what will suit her class” Anjali mutters angrily. Shyam rolls his eyes. Women politics.!!

The Griha Pravesh ritual begins. Daadi circles the puja thali around the couple, welcoming them inside. She then hands a big jewelry box to Khushi who is stupefied at the gift.
“These belong to our ancestors and hence you owe them all now” Daadi exclaims.
Khushi swallows hard. She is not ready to take up this responsibility but looks like for now, she has to. Anjali fumes seeing that box being gifted to Khushi.
“Daadi.. why was this not given to me?” she straight away put her doubts.
“Because they belong to the eldest Bride of the family” Daadi answers.
Anjali is about to argue but Shyam grips her arm, gesturing her not to extend this conversation as there are guests around. Suhani, Angad and other relatives who can spread the word outside about Anjali’s greed for the Royal ancestral jewels. She decides to remain quiet.
“I wish Akash and Aman were here today” Shyam purposely makes this statement to enjoy the disappointment on Arnav and Daadi’s face.
Khushi keenly observes all of it. She was already aware that Arnav Singh Raizada was responsible for the split between the brothers. She wonders what led him to do that?
“Shyam and Anjali...” Daadi interrupts. “Where is your gift?”
Anjali smiles and asks the maid to bring the box. She then comes ahead to Khushi and passes it to her.
“I am sure you will love the contents of this box”
Khushi unwillingly takes it from her without responding.
“And now comes the most important tradition of this family..” Anjali continues.. “Brother-in-law, let me warn you, Khushi’s lehnga is almost of her weight. She is going to be very very heavy” Anjali laughs with the rest of the relatives.
Wait!! Khushi turns to Arnav. Is he going to carry her in arms?
“No” she mumbles at him.
Arnav reads that word from her mouth but narrows his eyes. He doesn’t have a choice, neither her approval to this tradition matters him. He leans down and sways her off her feet, taking her all the way inside.
Arnav puts her down in the living room. She is hungry. When she eloped this morning, she didn’t get time to eat and ever since she has returned, she is restricted from eating anything apart from fruits. Again, this was one of the traditions of the family that the bride fasts till the rituals happen.
“I am hungry” she whispers. “Get me something to eat before I fall sick”
Her demand is genuine. He doesn’t argue neither assures her that she will soon be fed. Instead he walks back to his Daadi who is entertaining the last remaining guests.
“Daadi.. I think we should all have dinner now” he urges his grandmother not to stretch Khushi’s fast for long.
Suhani ushers to her friend.
“He seems to care for you sincerely”
“If he had shown this care to his brothers, Payal would not have the need to elope. I cannot wait to find her” Khushi mutters in frustration.
“And what after you find her?”
Khushi is blank for few minutes.
“Once she is found, I leave it to Arnav for ensuring she and her baby are safe, but it will be my duty to bring her back with respect in this house. She belongs here Suhani. This is her real place with her husband.”
“I know.” Suhani agrees.
The dinner is soon served and the newly married couple made to sit together. Arnav notices how hungrily Khushi eats because she is consuming nonstop. The amount of food she is ate makes him think if she was starving from weeks? Daadi throws some dazed stare at her but she doesn’t care.
An hour later, Suhani is asked to drop Khushi in Arnav’s room, make her comfortable there.
Khushi gapes at the bedroom in horror the moment she steps in. It’s decorated with scented candles, flowers and balloons.
“It’s freaky” she mutters. “they know I am been forced into this marriage, why do all this decoration drama then?”
“They cannot let others know that Khushi. I mean… Anjali and Shyam Raizada. They are very cunning. Please be cautious of their moves.” Suhani warns.
Khushi nods. She has a clue of that already.
Arnav Singh Raizada and Angad enters the room.
“Time to go Suhani” Angad shouts.
Suhani and Khushi share a hug while Arnav stares at his room with the same astonished expressions like she gave a while ago.
“Happy Suhagraat” Angad pats Arnav’s back with a smirk.
“Seriously?” he snaps. “I am least interested in any of this.. My focus is to save Akash and Payal from any mishap and Khushi is just a helper in all this. I have no more attachments with her other than that”
Angad sighs in disappointment. He knows it is waste explaining Arnav anything now. He will understand it by himself as time passes. Whatever their intentions of marrying each other maybe, they will tend to bump with each other every now and then and that’s going to be the turning point of their relationship from here.
By the time Suhani and Angad exits the room, Khushi has already made a mental note of the amendments.
“I will take the adjoining room. I want my own privacy” she demands.
“Very funny!!” he mocks. “Whatever we both mean to each other.. it has to stay within this room. I don’t want the whole town to know the Royal couple stays in two separate rooms”
He is right. But she still has problems.
“Nope, that’s not happening. I need my private bed if not a separate room” she argues.
Arnav Singh Raizada frowns.
“I cannot share my bed with you” she adds.
“That’s MY bed” he corrects. “And I am sharing it with you. Take the left side, I will take the right”
“You won’t do that” Khushi shouts. “You will regret”
“Since when has a man regretted sharing a bed with a woman?” there is a glint of mischief in his tone.
Khushi clenches her jaw and comes forward. He thinks he is going to enjoy sharing the bed with her? Poor boy!!! She points her finger on his chest.
“This man will regret. Don’t believe me? Wait for the night to darken” a smile pops on her face as she makes her way to the dressing table to take out all the bridal jewelry she is wearing.
Arnav gets speechless. What the hell is she so confident about?

Arnav wakes up with a jolt!! He just felt like someone kicked his back. HARD!! He turns around and realizes he is not alone on bed. He got married today and hence is sharing the bed with her. When he had showered and come out, she was already asleep and snoring. For a minute, the simple salwar she was sleeping in, with no make up at all and her hair untied and resting calm on her pillow had charmed him. The sight of a woman on his bed is not something he was ever attentive about.
He brushes off those thoughts from filling his mind with nerve tickling senses again and focusses on the current problem. Who kicked him? Was he dreaming? Probably!! He shuts his eyes and decides to try sleep again when he gets the next kick and this time on his waist
“What the” he gets up from the bed looking with horror at his sleeping wife. She just kicked him?
“Khushi don’t you dare do that again” he shouts but doesn’t get any response from her. She is still snoring. Is she .. is she doing it unknowingly? Is that why she warned him he will regret sleeping next to her? because she… she kicks in sleep?

ReplyDeleteAwesome Update. Arshi are finally married. Arnav's first night is hilarious . Arnav will soon learn to adjust with Khushi already he likes Khushi's nature. Though this marriage is conditional the way they are progressing Arnav will soon be in love . Anjali and Shyam are too greedy class conscious and maybe they are the reason rift between the brothers. Arnav somehow genuinely cares for Khushi though he is saying he has no attachment only time will tell how he falls in love with Khushi.
