Chapter 13
Shantivan
Arnav waits for another minute to actually give Khushi a chance to rectify her sleeping pose. Her strong kicks have ruined his sleep. Never did he imagined a woman snatching his peace to this extent. But realizing this was not going to end as he desired, Arnav decides to put an end to it. He slides his arms beneath her and carries her to the recliner. She is a careless sleeping beauty, having no regards to who touched her and what was happening with her in sleep. Though it worked tonight in his favor, it still frustrated him. This can be a trouble to her if she happens to sleep over at a place other than her home with strangers around. He puts her on the recliner. She wriggles at first feeling the hard surface beneath, a total contrast to the soft bed she was resting so far. But even that doesn’t wake her up. Arnav grabs a pillow and a quilt for her and adjusts them to support her head and cover her body. If she is going to kick him, this is where she will end up sleeping the rest of the night. He feels insensitive to behave so rough with his newly wed wife but ruining his precious sleep is the last thing he wants tonight.
He heads back to the bed and stretches like a king, having all the space for himself while she tosses on the recliner, adjusting herself to the hard couch. He hisses seeing her discomfort and wants to get her back but wait, why did he care? Right now, his entire focus should be on finding Akash. Once that's done, he will have time and energy to think what further actions is required in his marital life.

Same night - Unknown place
"How can you be so insensitive? My sister got into this mess because of me" she shouts at her husband who is currently warming up the soup for her.
"Payal" he turns off the gas knob and gazes back at his wife. "This is a trap. Arnav wants to hunt us down, I know him. It is all his plan to get married to your sister so that he can reach us."
"And what about Khushi?" She sobs. "I cannot let my sister be a part of your family circus"
He is stunned to hear such statements from his wife. She is always polite and hardly hurts anyone by her choice of words. It has to be her mood swings. So, instead of being angry on her for terming his family no less than a circus, he laughs. She watches him stupefied.
"Mrs. Akash Singh Raizada" he pulls her chin up to meet his eyes. "Don't forget your husband is also a part of that circus and so will be our child"
She shrugs his hold from her chin.
"I am serious Akash"
"So am I. Okay look, what if your sister…" he tries to recollect her name.
"Khushi" Payal reminds.
"Right, so what if Khushi is willingly part of this alliance? What if she and Arnav genuinely like each other and decided to tie a knot. It is bad to break them apart only because we think they are incompatible."
"No.. Khushi cannot fall for a man like your brother. And I know her, she was focusing on her career, I am sure dad must have forced her into this. Please Akash, we cannot sit relaxed as if it doesn't matter. We have to do something to ensure Khushi knows what she has gotten into"
Payal's worry for her sister somehow puts Akash in trouble too. He cannot see her in distress especially when she is pregnant.
"Okay.. we will do something. You relax for now"
She hugs him. Worry for Khushi and her future slowly starts pricking her conscience. If Khushi has married Arnav Singh Raizada for her, then she will never be able to forget herself.
******************
Next morning - Shantivan
Khushi falls down from wherever she was sleeping so far, hurting her back. She hisses in pain, rubbing her back where it hurt. As her eyes finally open wide, she realizes she wasn't on bed but on the recliner. Her marriage to Arnav Singh Raizada flashes in front of her eyes. But as far as she recollects, she was on bed. Her so called husband has woken up and moving across the room, looking for something. She doesn't care what he is so busy looking for because she wants to know how she ended up on recliner?
"What the hell am I doing here?" She gets up from the floor.
Arnav pauses his search and gives her a glance. She looks messy with her hair spread across her right shoulder and her body recovering from a terrible sleep.
"Where are you supposed to be after marriage, if not your husbands’ room?"
His twisted response irks her even more.
"I meant here..." She points at the recliner. "I was on bed. How did I end up here?"
He presses his lips thin.
"Maybe you sleep walk" he lies.
"Oh please. I know all my traits. And they are cool" she scoffs.
"Kicking people out of their own bed cannot be counted as a cool trait, isn't it?" he smirks.
Okay, now she understands. He witnessed her sleep kicking habit and hence shifted her to the recliner.
“You carried me in your arms? How dare you?” she throws the pillow at him which he catches before it could touch his body.
“The same way I dared to carry you during the Grihapravesh!!” he smirks. “And trust me, it was tough. You weighted more in sleep than your bridal attire”
Khushi frowns. He is teasing her but she is not in a mood.
“Next time, don’t throw stuff at me, its disrespectful” he barks, throwing the pillow back on bed.
Khushi crosses her arms across. At least he is pissed off now, just like her. She decides to poke him more.
"I had told you" she grins. "You will regret sleeping next to me"
"Ahh!! Not anymore. Henceforth, you will take the couch and the bed will exclusively be for me"
"I am not convinced" she shrugs. "I should get a chance to sleep on bed too, I have equal rights here"
Arnav rolls his eyes.
"Work on your trait, sort it and you will be allowed on the bed. Not otherwise"
It looks like he had made the decision already.
"Bullshit" she scowls.
"Language, Khushi Gupta" he shouts back. "You are a Royal now"
Khushi grimaces. Why is he so obsessed with his Royalness?
They would have continued to argue but somebody knocked the door.
"Keep those on bed. I don’t want people to know" he commands pointing at the quilt which is still lying lifeless on the recliner. He cannot take a chance and let anyone know about their sleeping arrangement
Khushi rolls her eyes, disobeying him.
"You should have thought about it while dumping me here last night"
Arnav clenches his jaw. She is not going to let it ease, will she? Having no time to argue further, he does the job himself and opens the door. Anjali peeks inside.
"Good morning" she grins. "Is Khushi awake?"
Arnav moves aside, letting his sister-in-law enter the room. Anjali steps in and the first thing she tries to do is find any signs which can prove the couple have not enjoyed being together last night.
"I am here" Khushi says clearing her throat to get Anjali's attention on her rather than the state of the room.
"Yes. I know" she comes ahead. "You didn't shower yet? It's 09:00 am"
"I didn't know we have a fixed schedule here" Khushi mocks. “Or a time table” she adds looking at Arnav.
"I am sure you don't know anything about this family then. But no worries, I will teach you all. For now, just freshen up and come down. You have to perform your first Rasoi"
Khushi raises her brows.
"I get it.." she replies. "You mean take care of what will be cooked henceforth? Ensure the servants are following the schedule and all that. I will handle it"
Anjali laughs at her answer whereas Arnav rubs his thumb on forehead in disappointment.
"You don't have to bother about commanding the servants, I am already doing that Khushi" Anjali replies. "You have to cook a sweet for the family as you are the new bride. I am sure you know how to cook"
Khushi takes a second to think and smirks.
"I do" she lies.
Anjali pats her arm.
"See you in the kitchen then"
Once Anjali leaves, Arnav shuts the door and resumes his search. That key is important. If he loses it, all his past 12 months of efforts will go in vain. Khushi notices his frustration over something missing but she doesn’t interrupt his search. Neither she can waste her time in arguing with him when she already has so much to do. She heads for the shower.
When she comes out, Arnav is on call giving instructions to someone.
“Check every CCTV footage, I want to know who that woman was. You get that?” he shouts and disconnects. Khushi immediately gets alert.
“Woman? Was.. Payal here?”
He turns back at her intrusion. Khushi is wearing a Yellow Saree and her wet hair tied inside a fresh towel. Words choke in his throat as his gaze lingers from top to bottom. He has never seen her in Saree before. Khushi notices his lingering gaze and clears her throat to get his attention.
“What did you say your profession was?” he asks.
“Was?” she scowls. “I am a Model. And haven’t you seen a Model in saree before?”
“I have!! I am just surprised how well you have draped it”
“Payal taught me” she murmurs. “She was always good at everything.. cooking… looking after household chores.. she is a perfect woman for a man”
Arnav doesn’t reply. But he can see the affection for Payal clearly in Khushi’s eyes. It’s good because this is what worked for him.
“Anyways” Khushi shrugs thinking about her sister at this moment. “Which woman you are looking for from the CCTV footages?”
“The servants have seen a strange woman, hiding her face by a Shawl, during our Haldi ceremony. We are just suspicious if she was Payal. Want to be sure if she was here”
Khushi suddenly remembers that woman too.
“She was not Payal. I didn’t see her face but .. she was not Payal”
“You saw her?” Arnav groans. “And you didn’t happen to share this with me?”
“How would I know you were looking for her? You told me everything yesterday” she snaps.
He sighs in frustration and takes a minute to absorb.
“How can you be so sure that she wasn’t your sister?”
“Because she didn’t look pregnant. She was slim and very quick in moving across the room. I even thought of going after her but… I was intruded by your family”
Arnav exhales.
“You know the exact time when you saw that woman? It will help the security guys to check that particular footage first”
Khushi shares the approximate time when this happened and Arnav walks out to inform his people. Khushi continues to wipe her hair. If that woman wasn’t Payal then who was she? What did she want? How can she just barge in this Palace without being noticed by the guards or anyone else? Was someone else from this family involved in letting her in? Because that is the only way she could have missed others spotting her.
Her phone rings. It’s her Personal assistant Millie from Mumbai. Millie manages all her Modelling contracts.
“Ma’am? You. You got married?” Millie almost shouts when Khushi answers the call.
“Calm down, Millie. Don’t freak out”
Just like it’s a shock for others who know her, she is also in the same state. Everything happened in a lightening speed. She could change nothing.
“Ma’am. You have contracts signed and a few of them had clear clauses that you cannot marry during that period. We will have to bear heavy losses. I hope you have given a thought to it”
Khushi rubs her forehead and sits on the bed to soothe her aching head.
“I haven’t” she mumbles. “I am being honest Millie.. I didn’t get time to think about any of this. But we will figure this out”
“Ma’am, are you quitting?”
“No.. I am not. I will soon fix this and let you know what to do about those contracts. Give me some time”
“Okay”
Khushi disconnects the call and looks ahead, only to find Arnav Singh Raizada back in the room. She is glad he heard bits and pieces of his conversation. It’s high time she tells him she has work to do too apart from being his wife.
“I know its too early to do this. But I have to go Mumbai and fix my contracts”
“Fix? How?”
“I don’t know.”
“But I do” he replies coolly coming ahead and opens his closet to remove a cheque book. He signs on a blank cheque and hands it to her. She is confused by his actions. “Encash it.. settle your clients. End the contracts”
“What?” she shouts. “You promised I would be allowed to continue my profession”
Arnav Singh Raizada passes a lopsided smile.
“That… wasn’t a promise. It was a trick to convince you to marry me. Come on Khushi, why would my Royal Bride need to work? Modeling being the least!! I will obviously have a problem if you flaunt yourself with outfits I am not comfortable others to see you in..”
Khushi is stunned by his response.
“Don’t take me wrong. I am not being possessive husband. But we have a status to maintain and I am very particular about that. I can be a Guest in such shows, cannot withstand watching my wife walk the ramp”
He sounded very clear about his intentions but she was hurt. He lied? He lied that so she could marry him? How dare he do that to her?
“What other lies have you told me apart from this Arnav Singh Raizada?” she groans, her face turns red. It is hard to believe this man is planning to put a full stop to her career. She is never going to let that happen.
Arnav fakes to recollect and count the number of lies he told her and then meets her gaze again.
“Just one more” he gently closes the gap between the two. She doesn’t move when he leans at her ear to whisper. “There is no threat to Payal and Akash’s life”
Khushi’s eyes grow wide with that revelation. The whole reason why she married him, got into this trap, was a lie?
To be Continued.
Shantivan

ReplyDeleteYehhhh... the laptop is back!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the long update!
Happy Diwali!
Poor khushi. Arnav is so rude. Modelling is good but after marriage it has to have some limitations. I just wish arnav will allow her to do that with those limitations at least. I thought arnav would allow her to work after marriage. It's not a good thing to be a liar specially when he is a royal
ReplyDeleteAwesome Update . Did Arnav really lied about Akash and Payal ? But why? Or he doesn't want Khushi to get tensed. He is attracted towards Khushi maybe that's why he married her. Now what will be Khushi's reaction will she continue the marriage. And Anjali is still trying to find clues to break Arshi apart. Regarding Khushi's modelling career Arnav should have cleared his intentions earlier now. Now will Khushi give up modelling or not let's see. Happy that your laptop is back.

ReplyDeleteUpdate Badtameez tomorrow please.
ReplyDeleteArnav told lie poor khushi trapped between the raizada circus hope arnav is not anti hero here..
ReplyDeleteYay! Finally! So Payal and Akash are alive. She is worried about Khushi which seems like she is not okay with Raizadha clan.
ReplyDeleteAnjali couldn't you figure things out better?
And The last part. How heartless can he get,n I hope she gets to pursue her dreams
Cheers
Truthfully, I don't like this Arnav. The whole reason because of which Khushi married him was a lie made by him. And now he wants her to throw her career away. There was never a threat to Akash and payal's life. So this means Akash is right about arnav. He just wants them to come out of their hiding place.
ReplyDeleteSee, whatever is girl's career is it's very important. It's never about money. She must worked so hard to be at this place in her career. Arnav should have married her or any other girls if he wanted them to sit at the house like a beautiful furniture. That girl is a human and in a flick of a second he flipped her life upside down and for why? For NOTHING!
What could khushi do now? Irritate him, perhaps? And what would that do? Nothing. In real life that girl would be in depression and could perhaps think of committing suicide.
I like all of your ff madhu but this update has just left a bitter taste in my mouth because of Arnav's cruel tricks and no regards for Khushi's life. Whatever happens, even if Khushi falls in love with him, I don't think she would go back to her career. So, ultimately she would sacrifice her life and her career because of him. That is just not sitting well with me.
This was just my thoughts on this update. I have liked all your ffs and have read most them more than once but I don't think I could read this one.
I will wait for other ffs.
Thanks
Arshina
