Chapter 6


Khushi’s POV


There is a complete silence in the room and the only words that hang between us are ‘Do you love Lavanya?’


This is the question I asked Arnav after knowing his last night’s shirt had the fragrance of a lady’s perfume. He even told me he was with her last night after he asked his driver to take me home. So now all that is left for me to know is if he loved that other woman.

“Tell me, Arnav..” I snap.

“Why?” he smirks. “Why does knowing it matter to you?”

“I need to know why you married me if you loved someone else.”

“Ahh..” he takes a step closer and I take one towards him. I don’t think I ever was afraid of him. Earlier he was the only man who made me feel safe and even though now I despise him like he hates me, I am not afraid of him or his newly acquired dark side.

As soon as I am close to him, Arnav grabs my arms and pulls me to his body with a roughness he has recently acquired in handling me.


“Because my urge to avenge you supersedes every other feeling, I got in me.”


Oh! He hates me that much, huh? Never thought a man would ever say that to me with so much honesty.

“But do you love her?” I repeat, this time looking straight in his eyes and he grins.

That devilish grin doesn't suit him. Arnav’s grip on my arms tightens as he pulls me closer and leans to my ears.

“How can I love someone else when you have brutally stamped that feeling from inside me which I once had for you?” He whispers and my heart skips a beat.


It might be a whisper but it’s painful and full of hatred. Arnav pulls me away to meet my gaze again. I can literally see his dark soul in his eyes.

“You have ruined me for every other woman Khushi. I can’t love anyone. Not even you anymore.”


His words baffle me and they only point out one thing. Something major has transpired in his life after that night we met last and he holds me responsible for it. Have I done anything unknowingly that has changed his entire course of life? Before I can ponder more, Arnav drags me to the door and pushes me out.

“Never cross this door again. Stay out of this room.”

Before I could retort, he shuts the door on my face. Another Royal insult. I seriously hate this man for treating me like a piece of crap. I scoot back to my room. Whatever it is, I have to find out what went wrong in the past that he hates me this much? And how did he become so rich? And that Lavanya? If he doesn't love her what kind of relationship do they share? And hold on.. I also want to know who that woman was with Arnav in the photo frame which I saw in his room? I have so many questions and confused where to begin fetching the answers from.

I look for his details with my father that evening. I remember Dad having a record of all his staff who worked for him closely. He definitely would know who Arnav has in his family. I call him up that evening and ask him the same.


“I don’t have any records of Arnav’s family. I just know that he used to stay with his maternal uncle when he worked for me.”

“Uncle?” I repeat. “You mean he has an uncle in this city?”

“Maybe he has. But why do you want to dig about his family now?”

“To know why he is avenging us for?”


Dad is silent for a long minute.

“Khushi, you are unnecessarily wasting your time. Forget the past, and remember you don’t want to stay with him forever. I am getting you back to me in no time.”

I am about to respond when Dad continues.

“Anyways, keep an eye on Arnav’s moves for me. The way you challenged him to try his luck destroying my business, I know he would be doing anything to make sure he wins. I have to be prepared if he plays any such stunt.”


He is right. I might have challenged Arnav at that moment but now when I think about it, I am not sure if I did the right thing.


“Keep looking for any information that you might get about him and if you find anything suspicious, let me know.”

“Dad, please. Give this task to your spies. Arnav doesn't even let me enter his bedroom, forget he even speaking business in the house.”

“Hmm. Yet, keep your eyes and ears open for me.”


I agree and disconnect when Suman enters my room to arrange my closet with the dry-cleaned outfits. I didn’t see Arnav again after today morning’s confrontation. And he is not home now. I decide to pry about his life from Suman who’s been working for him since long.


“Does any woman come here to meet Arnav often?” I ask and she shrugs while changing the bed linens.

“Apart from Lavanya Madam, no other women has stepped in AR Mansion.. at least during my stay here.”


Lavanya keeps coming here? I swallow.

“She comes here for a night stay?”

I cross my fingers unknowingly but realize it as soon as Suman responds.

“No, Ma’am. Just for dinners and casual meets.”


Hmm. I don’t know why that reply gives me an unknown relief. She doesn't stay over night here with Arnav might mean they don’t share intimacy. But I surely know he cares for her.. a lot more than he should. I recall the times six years ago when he cared for me even more than himself. One wince, one tear from my eyes would make him nervous, and now… he doesn't care. In fact, he is the one responsible for all the pain I am enduring these days.


But its strange that despite making me his wife and bringing me at his home, he is not even showing any bit of interest in spending time with me. Forget the separate rooms, he isn’t even there to have a meal together. If he keeps ignoring me, how will I learn what he is doing at my back to ruin my father’s business to win the challenge I threw upon him?


That should change. Arnav was annoyed finding me in his bedroom. He even openly declared that he isn’t capable of loving anyone anymore.. not even me. So what does he expect me to do in this marriage? Sit and wait for him to vent upon his hatred on me every day? No ways.. I want to show him two can play this game better. And the only way to do this is to step in the game and surprise him. I quickly devise a few ideas what I can implement to get his attention and annoy him further. Who knows, I might succeed and he would send me back to my father?


Suddenly another thought pops in my head.

“Where is his office?” I ask Suman who quickly shares the details and I grin. Arnav Singh Raizada, get ready for another blow.

Arnav’s POV


“ASR, are you okay?” Lavanya holds my hand over the table.

“Yeah. What’s wrong with me?” I lie because I know nothing is right with me so far. Ever since Khushi entered my bedroom today morning and saw that photo, I have this weird feeling she might connect the dots and plot something further with her father to hurt me.

“I don’t know but something is definitely off in you today. Even during the conference you have been deafeningly quiet. I hope Khushi is alright.”


I fist my fingers shrugging Lavanya’s hand from mine.

“She’s fine.”

“Are you sure, ASR? Did you two fight because of me? I mean.. the way Khushi accused us of our relationship during the wedding reception, and the way you asked her to apologize to me, I think was a bit rude from your end.”

“Really La?” I snap. “A woman was linking you unnecessarily with me and you didn’t expect her to apologize?”

“Not any woman, ASR.. A wife.. your wife was pointing at me.. And she had every right to do so. You were humiliating her almost. When I told her she is beautiful, you literally gave some metaphor of some dark soul and ugly people or something. I can’t even relate what that was but she might have took it to her heart. She is your wife.. You should respect her sentiments.”


I swallow the painful lump formed in the back of my throat. My wife! I had dreamt of making her my wife ever since I saw her first but her real face is something else which devastated all my dreams.


“ASR? Talk to me.” Lavanya urges, bringing my attention back on her.

“Don’t you think you have been asking too many questions about Khushi today?”

“That’s because I am genuinely worried if you are happy with her.”

“What if I am not?”


Her eyes turn cold and she is speechless for a moment.

“How can you not be happy with her? You have manifested for this day ASR from so many years.”


Manifest! Yes. I did. Every minute in the last six years I have waited impatiently for the day when I would make Khushi my wife but it has nothing to do with love anymore. She is in my life so that I make her realize the pain she inflicted in the lives of the people close to my heart. If she had hurt me, even killed me I wouldn’t have pointed a finger at her. I would have forgiven her but what Khushi did bruised and shattered the peace of my family and I wouldn’t forgive her for that ever.


“You are lost again..” Lavanya groans.

Before I can respond to her, my intercom buzzes.

“hello”

“Sir, your wife is here to see you. Should I send her in?”


My jaw drops. Wife? What is Khushi doing in my office?

“Keep her there.. I am coming.”

I rise to my feet with Lavanya following my action.


“Khushi is here?”

“Yes” I nod. “I’ll find what she’s doing here you..”

Before I could complete, the door slams open and Khushi barges inside with my secretary hot on heels behind her, trying to stop her. The moment Khushi sees me and Lavanya together, I see her fuming again.


“Hello there..” Khushi fakes a smile at Lavanya.. “That’s why I was asked to wait out? Because you were inside with him?”

“Khushi..” I raise my voice.

“Sir..” My secretary voices out. “Sorry, but Ma’am didn’t listen when I asked her to wait and..”

“It’s okay. You may leave.” I mutter and the moment it is just me, Lavanya and Khushi in the cabin, I stride to my wife.


She’s wearing a sundress and that’s totally improper attire for an office environment. I know she did this to annoy me. She’s successful.


“Arnav..” She places her palms over my chest the moment I reach her. The mere touch is enough to stiffen me and confuse me too. Why is she smiling? That coy smile on her lips prove she has something up her sleeve. “Sorry for barging inside your cabin but I couldn’t wait seeing you.”


What an act!! She’s pretending to be cool with me as if we are happily married and in love. Freaking impossible.

“Why are you here?”

“I needed some money for shopping.”

“Shopping?” I glare at her.

“I know you have loaded the wardrobe with the best outfits for me but there are still some stuff which you forgot to include.”


I don’t understand. She looks at Lavanya and then at me again.


“I can’t tell what those are before her..”

“Oh” Lavanya feels awkward. “I.. I will leave then..”

“Oh no.. please don’t go Lavanya. I was thinking why don’t you accompany me for shopping because I know my husband is not going to ditch his work for me, will you honey?”


Honey? She called me with such sugarcoated words?

“Umm.. sure.. I can accompany you,” Lavanya agrees.

“No need La..” I interrupt. “No one is going shopping today.”

I turn to Khushi again.

“Whatever you need just tell Suman, she’ll get it delivered.”

“I need to try those on.. She won’t understand Arnav and I don’t like my staff shopping my innerwear.”


Innerwear? I didn’t include those in her wardrobe? Impossible.

“Check your wardrobe again, you should find them.”

“I did find them” she grins. “But they are not my types. What kind of husband you are, that you don’t even know the types of innerwear I like?”


F***!! She is testing my patience. I turn to Lavanya who looks a bit embarrassed to be a part of this conversation. This is exactly why Khushi didn’t let her leave. She wants to show off all is good between us and I know why she is doing this. She wants Lavanya to back off but what Khushi doesn't realize is that there was and will be no woman ever between us. All I ever wanted was her six years ago and all I will ever want hereon will still be her. The only difference is that previously I wanted her out of love, now I need her because I hate to see her getting any share of happiness from another man.
