Chapter 42
“What? His wife?” Ayush Singh Raizada snarls at the Inspector.
“Yes, Anita Raizada. She is the prime suspect in your brother’s murder. She was holding the murder weapon too and she even confessed that she killed her husband. We have her statement”
Ayush sighs in disbelief. Past 8 years he didn’t bother to even know how his elder brother survived. Though Anil Raizada had all the money and business, Ayush knew it wasn’t going to be easy for him to handle. That man was a maniac, having all ill habits. He smoked day and night and had many affairs too. When they stayed together, Ayush was sick of his elder brother’s habits and even had warned him to change but he never cared.
“What’s the motive behind the murder?” Ayush asks. “Money?”
“She killed him in self-defense, that’s what she keeps saying. But we think it’s a planned murder. Anil Singh Raizada had an insurance policy, a big one and she was the nominee”
“Self-defense?”
“Yes” the inspector opens up the side drawer of his table and removes a medical report.
“What is this?”
“Her medical report. She is 8 weeks pregnant”
That goes as another shock for Ayush Singh Raizada. The woman is pregnant with his brother’s child? Why would she kill her husband then?
“I want to meet her, may I?” he urges the Inspector.
“Sure, please come”
The inspector leads Ayush to the cell where Anita Raizada is locked up. Ayush trembles seeing a thin woman sitting lifelessly, hugging her feet, hiding her face in between her knees. She looked messed up. As Ayush stands at the cell, she slowly raises her head and stares back at him. In an instant she recollects his face.

“Ayush?”
Ayush is confused.
“You know me?” he queries.
She manages to stand up on her feet and strides to him.
“You are his brother. I know. Please save my child. Please. I don’t want my baby to be a part of my crime.. this life.. please”
She pleads. Ayush steps away.
“You should have thought it before killing my brother” he shouts.
“I had no choice” she cries. “If I hadn’t killed him, he would have killed me and my child”
She touches her stomach. Ayush is not convinced. Why would his brother do that? Why wouldn’t he want his baby?
“Please. please help me Ayush. I will be forever grateful to you”
Ayush didn’t know what to do. It was hard to take a decision like that right away. He had been married to Revathi and they were planning to grow their own family soon. Will she agree to nurture his elder brother’s child?

“Never” Revathi shots back at her husband who returned home and discussed his conversation to Anita Raizada, with her. “I know he was your brother and he died but he had no sympathy for you when he pushed you away from all your family wealth and business. Why would you do any favor to his child now? And even if we show that much kindness, don’t forget he/she will always be called a child of a murderer. Anita has confessed her crime and she is soon going to serve life long imprisonment. How can you expect me to even care for such a child?”
“Revati.. Calm down” Ayush clutches her arms. “What’s the fault of that child?”
“What was your fault that Anil cheated you? You were so young Ayush. You were on roads and whatever little business we have today has been set up by us together, from scratch. They never looked back at you. If Anita was so kind and innocent, she would have tried to patch you up with Anil again but she never did. And who knows she might have lied to you. She might have killed her husband for his insurance money?”
They argue for many days and months yet the decision from Revathi never changed. Ayush could do nothing without her support but he used his other ways to try looking for the actual reasons of the murder. If Anita Raizada is really innocent, he would help her. Soon, Anita was sent for lifelong imprisonment but with proper medical care as she was pregnant.
Years passed and Ayush could finally trace everything about his deceased brother’s past. Anil Singh Raizada was having an extra marital affair and Anita Raizada go to know that. She confronted to him many a times, deciding to forgive him only if he could be loyal to her again but things got worse. He decided to divorce her. Anita had just got the pregnancy news and she shared it with Anil Singh Raizada on that fateful night with a hope that he would at least now reconcile with her and take her responsibility along with their child’s but instead he chose to end her life. He was done with her. The woman whom he had an affair with was too rich to lure his already filthy mind. In his intoxicated state that night, he tried to kill his own wife and Anita had to save herself and the child somehow. In the attempt to escape, the knife which was supposed to kill Anita twisted and stabbed straight into Anil Raizada’s heart, killing him on the spot.

Ayush Singh Raizada was in a dilemma. Anita’s child must be either 5 – 6 years old by now and probably in some orphanage, away from Anita who was serving her life imprisonment. He had to talk to Anita and whatever happens, he will try to give that child a better life. It had been almost 8 years of marriage for Ayush-Revati and they still didn’t had kids of their own. They had contacted the best doctors both in the country and abroad but nothing worked. If Revati would agree, then he would keep his brother’s child with them. That way, the child could get a healthy life and they would have someone to look upon, love and care.
But his dreams broke when the Orphanage where Anita’s child was admitted, informed him that the baby was missing from past 2 years. One of their staff had abducted the child and could never be traced. The police complaint was made and they were still looking for him. HIM!!! It was a Boy!!! Ayush’s heart ran helter skelter imagining where the boy could be, in what state and under which roof. He hired the best detectives to find that Ex staff personnel who can give some information about the boy. The information he needed was tracked within a month. The man who abducted the boy had made him stay on roads with him and even taught him to steal. It shattered Ayush Singh Raizada’s heart and he couldn’t wait to meet him, bring him back to the family.
That night when he drove to the dark streets of the dirtiest place in the town he had ever seen before, his body shuddered seeing the boy he was looking for, getting beaten up by a man. He stopped his car, got down and saved the boy from the trauma, even offered him to step in his car and flee from this place of disgust; the boy luckily didn’t argue or deny. He hopped in the car and a new phase of their journey together, began.
“Sir”
A female voice shook him, bringing Ayush Singh Raizada out of his stance.
“Please fasten your seatbelt. We are landing in few minutes” the cabin crew girl informs and walks ahead.
Ayush looks outside the window. He can see the city of London spread wide below as the plane descends to land. He fastens his seatbelt and shuts his eyes, re-living those flashbacks of his life, which is the reason of all the present mess.
“Who is he? Why is he in our house?” Revati Raizada snapped at her husband, seeing him with a shabby 6-year old boy.
The boy instantly feared and hid behind Ayush. He didn’t want to be hurt again. He had seen rich people like them pushing him away, looking at him with irking expressions. He didn’t know why?
“Revati. Don’t raise your voice. I will explain everything to you”
“No, just tell me why have you got him here?”
Ayush clutches Revati’s arm and drags her away, informing the servant to feed the boy. It took an hour for him to convince his wife that he wants to keep the boy in their home. She didn’t understand his extra concern all so sudden but because he was so adamant about it, she agreed to keep him for a few days.
When Ayush came out again, he saw the boy sitting alone, afraid and totally uncomfortable with the change in his surroundings. The food was placed before him but he didn’t have the courage to even touch it. He was shivering both by fear and hunger. Ayush’s eyes teared seeing his state. He came ahead and sat next to him. The boy didn’t even look at him. He gently palmed his cheek.
“Why didn’t you eat?”
The boy curved further away from him.
“It’s okay. No one will hurt you again. Come here”
That little assurance made the boy come closer. Ayush tucked him beside and then fed him the food. He ate it. The first few morsels were slow but as the boy realized he was safe, he started gulping the food down his throat instead of chewing. Ayush didn’t disturb him with his further questions. He just fed the boy. More than his elder brother Anil, the boy had features of his grandfather; especially those determined yet innocent eyes.
“What is your name?” he asked.
The boy had no idea.
“You don’t have a name?” he caressed his head.
The boy nodded in denial.
“If I give you a name, will you like it?”
The boy had no clue what to reply. He plainly nodded.
“Arnav” Ayush declared.
The boy smiled. He liked the name and the way it sounded to his tiny ears.
“So, if anyone asks you what your name is, what will you say?”
“Arrr.nnnnaaaavvv” he replied smiling and that voice filled Ayush’s ears with peace and serenity. He always had planned to give this name to his own son, if he had any. And the boy here deserves to be that.. deserves to be his rightful son..

ReplyDeleteOkay. So I was wrong and Ayush was a good man. He didn't had any bad intention with Arnav. But this raised me few questions too. Why Ayush didn't treat Arnav as his own kid? There was this gap between them which was why Arnav couldn't talk with him about Khushi. I understand why Ayush didn't want to tell the truth to Revati. But did it matter? Revati never loved Arnav. He was just a lucky charm for them. I was right when I said that Revati never wanted a child and that was the reason she didn't love Arnav. I will never like Revati, even if she turns out to be good. For me she will be always a bad woman. Good update.

Awesome Update. Ayush Raizada is a good man who gave Arnav an identity also made his future secured . I think Revati is the reason Arnav is angry with Ayush. Anil Raizada was a bad guy and Arnav's mom killed his dad in self defense and Ayush Raizada didn't had a choice to take up Arnav's responsibility and as expected Revati opposed it. Hope Arnav understand Ayush and patch up with him soon and Khushi will probably play an important role in it.

ReplyDeleteSo Actually Ayush saved Arnav...then why did Arnav now so cold towards Ayush...May be because he didn't said the truth that he belongs to raizada...But I think Ayush had no bad intentions in that... he simply done that to protect him..He thought it's better to be known as his Adoptive son rather than know as a Murderer son and he didn't want Revati to make Arnav leave if she came to know about his identity

ReplyDeleteSo it really is nurture over nature...Arnav has inherited his behavior from his adoptive father rather than his biological one.... clearly Revati didn't have much of a role to play there :-)
But there is still some mystery around arnav and ayush's spat..yes Ayush could have listened to Anita and taken the child away, placed him elsewhere and ensured that he was wl taken care of instead of allowing him to fall by the way side, but in his defense this was the son of the man who had brought him to the roads, cut all ties with him, left him penniless...is it unnatural that he may not be adamant in helping him? And while Revati may have been a lousy mother to Arnav, I can understand her reluctance to help Anita though not an unborn child who is blameless....and only you know how she behaved with Arnav, if she continued to make Arnav feel as though they had done him a favour ...and he owed them
So did anything else happen? If not, then I hope khushi helps Ayush and Arnav reconcile..because while Ayush and Revati werent parents with whom he could openly talk, it was Arnav's choice to do what his parents wanted against his own happiness...and at the end of the day Arnav did get the life he did thanks to Ayush...so to eschew him completely? I don't know because we don't know what actually happened...

But i think ayush keeping arnav's past fromhim was only because he did not want to hurt him by knowing how hiscfather was and what circumstances lead to his death and his mom getting imprisoned. Why is arnav holding grudge against him .

He actually did very generous deeds by finding the truth behind his scoundrel brother's murder, then he found Arnav, sheltered him, named him, adopted him.. I guess he just didn't want Arnav to know about the horrible deeds of his father & about his mother being a murderer of his own father regardless to whatever the reasons were.. that's y he hid his true identity..

After Arnav broke his alliance with Sheetal, Revati must have got infuriated as she must have lost the chance to presidentship in her club as per her plans & in that anger she must have blabbered infront of Ayush that Arnav betrayed them when they adopted him, an orphan.. That time Ayush must have revealed about Arnav's true identity & Arnav must have overheard their fight & that's how he must have got to know the truth or may be half truth..

And, made that child feel obligated all his life and used that obligation to control him? How selfish and heartless can they be? No wonder Arnav is mad at them, there's really no coming back from such a series of cruel actions. If they had a biological kid, Arnav would still be out there suffering a street kid's life while his super rich uncle doesn't give a damn about his existence. They could have at least taken that kid and given him a decent existence in a boarding school or something if they didn't want to adopt him. But no, they just abandoned him. Wow.
