Chapter 21
Khushi’s POV
“What a mess” Arnav groans as I lead him to the couch. I flop with him on the sofa unable to leave his grip. He is imbalanced. This man really fought a lot and I can’t thank him enough. But how did he know I was here? And that I was in danger?
“What are you doing here?” I ask. “How do you know I am here in this hotel, Arnav? Are you snooping into my life?”
He presses the ice bag on his forehead wounds.
“Seriously Khushi? You want to do this now?” he snaps. “We are safe and that’s what should matter to you at the moment.”
He is right.
“But we’ll have this conversation again. Soon.” I declare and all he does is give me a heated glare.
“Come here..” He is about to cup my face and I instantly flinch back. Arnav exhales, a bit annoyed. “Let me check your bruises.”
“No, I ..”
He doesn’t listen and the next second his fingers gently stroke the bruises on my face.
“Ouuchh,” I wince in pain.
“Damn hell. I am going to bury these people for treating a woman like that.” Arnav groans and then forces me to get up from the couch with him. “Let’s clean your wounds first.”
I want to tell him he doesn’t need to do that and he better focuses on his injuries than mine but I don’t. I let him lead me to the bathroom. He turns on the faucet and wets a face towel. Then he carefully wipes the blood from my face, blowing air in between. He treats me like I am a glass doll and a little pressure in his touch might break me into pieces. My eyes tear up as I recall the incident and I wonder what would have happened had Arnav not reached here on time to save me. The next instant I slide my arms around his waist and embrace him tight, to hide my sobs. I don’t want him to know I am crying. I don’t want him to know I was afraid and that I am thankful to him for keeping an eye on me. Arnav stiffens at first which is obvious considering we don’t share this bond. And it’s not him but me. It’s me who always pushes him because I don’t want to burden myself with the tantrums of a partner. But today after all that I faced; I need this. I need someone to make me feel safe. Someone to shower his kind and protective words. Someone to hold me like I have nothing to worry about. I thought hugging him would soothe my sobs but I find myself crying hard in his arms.. with my face dug into his hard chest. I don’t think I could have escaped whatever this man had planned to do tonight with me if Arnav hadn’t come on the right time.
The next second I feel his strong arms curling around my body, and his palm rub my back to soothe me down. He says nothing just keeps stroking my back and hair. I don’t care what he thinks about it or how I would face him after I feel better but this is needed. This comfort.. this silent promise that we have between us is needed. I don’t realize how long we stay like that in the bathroom when we hear the door bell and I freeze again, clutching his arms. The fear of someone here again to hurt me bothers me.
“It’s okay,” Arnav cups my face, pushing a strand of hair away. “It must be the medic team. Come on. We need to get these bruises treated.”
He holds my hand and leads me out. The door was already open and I see the duty manager with the Doctor.
“Treat her first” he says to them and then speaks to the duty manager while I am getting the medical help. I watch this man as he leads this situation. It is not his place to speak. He got involved in this fight and amidst this trouble because of me yet he is here and handling things like he owes me. Arnav Singh Raizada is a good man and this is exactly why I fear to be close to him. I am afraid his goodness will charm me some day and I would want to cross this forbidden territory to claim him.
After me Arnav gets his wounds treated. The Doctor recommends him to have some X rays of his ankle which is aching as he kicked those bulky men a lot many times. In an hour my room is occupied by the police and some heads of the hotel management who record my statement and also speak to Arnav about it.
“Have you seen those men before, Miss Gupta?” The police asks.
“No. I just saw them today.”
“And what about your Mr. Raizada?”
“Same.” He shrugs.
“Any enemies that you have and think they could have done this?” the police continue to probe me.
“None at the moment.” I lie and see Arnav glaring at me.
Why is he glaring at me like that? As if he knows who sent these men? And as if he knows I am aware of it too.
“Miss Gupta, please don’t worry. We will fully cooperate with you to find the person behind this.” The police assure.
“And I hope we get quick results,” Arnav interrupts. “No matter how powerful the person behind this is, I hope the police is going to do their job with utmost honesty.”
“Of course, Sir. Public safety is our duty.”
“Then do your duty well officer and find this person who tried to hurt Miss Gupta.”
“Sure, Sir. Until then I would request Khushi Ma’am not to stay alone.”
I am about to say something but Arnav replies on my behalf.
“Don’t worry on that. I’ll make sure she is never alone.”
Our eyes meet again and this time I see a promise in his gaze as if he is going to keep me safe for the rest of my life. God. What is he doing? The police officials leave and Arnav turns to the duty manager.
“My lawyers will speak to your management tomorrow. I want strict actions taken against your poor security team and strengthen some protocols here so that no such events happen again. And of course, I am going to file a lawsuit of negligence. That’s goes without saying. Be prepared to shut this place for years now.”
“Sir.. but..”
“Leave us alone” he snaps. “We are checking out in 30 minutes.”
The management leaves out of the room with worried faces and Arnav then turns back to me.
“Pack your bags..” he commands. “We are going home.”
Home? Which home? I swallow painfully.
“I sold my apartment.” I sigh heavily. “Now until I find another place to live in this is my home.”
“I know you sold it. And you have found another place to stay already.”
“Where?” I curiously ask.
“AR Mansion.”
My heart flutters at his proposal.
“I .. I can’t stay at your place.”
“Too bad.. I am not letting you make the choice.”
Saying that he scoots to the bedroom and grabs my trolley bags. He unzips it and then heads to the closet.
“Arnav I am not going anywhere with you.” I say, following him inside.
He keeps taking out my dresses hanging in the cupboard and starts dumping them in the bags. He is not even bothered that he is invading in my personal space now. He is about to open the drawers where I keep my undergarments when I stop him.
“You are crossing your line, Arnav.”
He gives me a tight smile meeting my gaze.
“I already crossed it in that pub the other night when I asked you that question. Today, I am just claiming my right.”
“Right?” I snap. “Which damn right are you talking about?”
“The right to protect you. The right to keep you safe and the right to make things better in your life again.”
My jaw drops.
“Your safety means something to me Khushi and I’ll make sure that no one stops me from taking care of you. Not even you yourself.”
I watch him in daze.
“So now are you packing the stuff from the drawers in your bag or should I do it?”
My cheeks flame at his reminder that he was about to pack my undergarments.
“Just get out of my bedroom for a minute.” I snap and he understands I will pack them on my own.
“Good. I am waiting out.”
He marches out of my room.

Arnav’s POV
I am exhausted but I won’t rest until I find out who did this with Khushi. I have a clue already but I need proofs. I wait at the living room for 15 minutes until Khushi walks out with her bags. I take them from her. She is ready to leave. Without a word exchange, we walk out together to the elevator and in a few minutes we are out of the hotel, driving towards AR mansion. I had informed Dad about all this and had asked him to send us a car as I couldn’t drive back home on my own due to the ache in my ankle.
Khushi is way too silent in the car. I know she is tired and needs rest.
“Why did you hide the name of your enemy from the police?” I ask and get her attention back on me.
We are sitting next to each other at the backseat.
“I don’t have any enemy. You are mistaken.”
“You made one today Khushi. I am talking about Manohar Jha and his son who is no longer your fiancée now.”
Her eyes widen in shock.
“You really think they would do this to me?”
“They can. You failed their plans. You broke the engagement, didn’t you? That definitely hurt their egos.”
Khushi looks away trying not to comment.
“They are powerful Khushi but that doesn’t mean they can defeat you.”
“I am not defeated” she snaps. “I just can’t believe they would go to this extent. And even if they have I need some time to fix this on my own. I don’t need you..”
“Huh” I chuckle turning away from her and look outside.
“Why did you laugh?” she is enraged. “You think by coming in my hotel room and fighting for me with those goons single handedly you have got the pass to fight all my battles?”
I fix my gaze back on her.
“You can’t appreciate other’s help, I totally understand but never underestimate me. If you are in any problem, even if you don’t want it, I’ll be the first one to offer you help. And its fine if you don’t want to thank me. I know thanking someone is not in your forte. You like making enemies more than allies. I get it.”
She gives me a strong heated glare but I turn around and look out of the window again. I am done with her shitty mood and tantrums for tonight.
We reach the Mansion in few more minutes and I ask Mohan my driver to get the luggage inside. Dad is pacing in the living room and the moment he sees us, he strides to us.
“Are you okay Khushi? Come on in..” he slides his arm around her shoulder and leads her to the couch. I follow quietly.
“I am fine” Khushi smiles taking a seat next to my father who is over worried.
“When Arnav told me what happened, I couldn’t wait to see you.” He then turns to me and extends his arm for me. “come here boy. You look badly wounded.”
I sit to his other side as he inspects my bruises.
“What did the doctor say?” he inquires.
“He said I am fine.”
“He said Arnav has to do some X rays tomorrow of his ankle” Khushi cuts my lie. “He needs to visit the hospital tomorrow.”
Her fury mixed with concern for me brings a smile on my face.
“I’ll take him to hospital tomorrow. Don’t worry” Dad assures. “Did you eat anything?”
“Yea i..”
“No” I cut her lie this time. “She and I are both hungry. Can you ask HP to cook something for us dad?”
“Sure, I have already told him.” Dad smiles. “And Khushi, you are going to stay in your father’s home until this is fixed.”
Father’s home? I know that phrase has shocked even Khushi.
“Am I not your father?” Dad tries to get some attention here and Khushi is speechless. “I always saw you as my own daughter Khushi Gupta. You have made a special place in my heart. I want you to stay here because if you don’t I am going to stay wherever you stay. Now the choice is yours. Will you let your boss to wander around in hotels with you?”
Khushi knows she is been trapped here now. Me nor Dad is going to let her go without we being sure she is safe.
“You are doing too much for me” she murmurs.
“Ah!! You can save some billions for us by your dedication and hard work later. How’s the deal?” Dad mocks.
A smile pops on her face and I am relieved she is not arguing anymore. She will stay here with us. She is safe here.
“I’ll show Khushi her room.” I say, getting up.
“Sure Sure. I have kept everything ready for her in the guest room,” Dad adds rising up to his feet with Khushi.
“Thank you” she mumbles to Dad who blesses her by touching her forehead. “Get freshen up and come down for dinner.”
“Yes”
She smiles and then follows me to the guest room upstairs.
To be Continued.

Standalone Enemies to Lovers Romance Novel
Jhanvi Sikand
I was supposed to marry my childhood friend, Mohit Raichand. Call it fate or destiny, I tied the knot with the Forbidden Heir of the Raichand family – Aarav Raichand, instead. I knew nothing about him except that he used me as a pawn to start a war to snatch from the Raichands what was legally his.
Aarav Raichand
Despite being the firstborn in the Raichand family, they forbade me from the rights and tags I should legally own. My father was secretly married to my mother, his middle-class lady love. Yet my egoistic grandmother got him re-married to another woman from her rich circle. She considers their offspring, Mohit Raichand, as the true heir of the family now. I would have ignored it all had her actions not taken my mother’s life. I pledged on my mother’s grave to crush the ego of my grandmother and snatch what is rightfully mine, including the woman she was getting Mohit married to.
A Fight for dominance altered to War for Love. One war, Three Lives, Only Two could survive.
