Chapter 10

Khushi’s POV

I have never been this mortified like I am today. Arnav Singh Raizada has held me in his arms, so close that I can hear his heartbeats. And what did he just confront? He likes me? That’s normal for my to-be husband to like me but then why am I getting goosebumps all over and why am I staring at his lips. The next instant his lips touch my cheek and he kisses me there making a soft sound. My eyes widen in shock and I instantly push him away and step back.


“This.. this is wrong.”

“What is wrong?” He asks a little annoyed of the distance I put between us.

“this.. whatever.. we were doing..”


I can’t even look at him. How can he so shameless?

“You are my fiancé and I can kiss you.”

“Not before marriage,” I debate, finally meeting his eyes.

He is grinning.

“Stop grinning. I am serious. You can’t kiss me before marriage. This is a sin. What if.. what if I…” I hesitate to complete the statement and look way again.

“What if you ?” he coaxes me to finish it and I shut my eyes while completing the question.

“What if I get pregnant..?”

I keep my eyes shut waiting for him to say something but when he doesn’t utter a word, I open my eyes and meet his shocked gaze.

“Pregnant?” he reconfirms. “What the F***”

“You can’t use that cuss word here in temple. Say sorry” I snap.

“You think a kiss can get you pregnant?”

I look away.

“Are you that innocent?” he probes further and when I don’t respond he grabs my elbow and forces me to meet his eyes. “You think a kiss between a man and woman is all that’s needed to make babies?”

“I am not that dumb” I retort. “I know one kiss is not enough but a series of kisses can lead the woman to conceive.” I swallow when his brows furrow in shock.

“You …” he exhales. “Do you have any friend who is married?”


Why is he asking me that?

“No.”

“How far have you studied?”

“I am a graduate and what has that to do with this topic?”

Arnav rakes his fingers in his hair, he’s a lot frustrated and confused at the moment which is a surprise even for me.

“You are getting married to me and you don’t even know ..” he pauses..

“I know enough..” I lie. I was always the one to shy and run way from the topics which women discussed about physical intimacies. Even Payal had tried to share some knowledge to me but I avoided listening because me being such great devotee of Devi Maiyaa couldn’t hear such cheap talks. But seems like I missed something important to know. It’s evident from Arnav’s expressions that he is shocked I have no knowledge on this subject.

“Lets go.” He says, looking extremely rattled at the moment.


I don’t say a word and walk ahead with him following me. Why is he so angry?

Arnav’s POV

Khushi Gupta is clueless about what happens between a man and a woman which leads them having babies? Wow!! I effing don’t know what to say or do at the moment. Can a woman be that innocent? That pure? That unadulterated? I give her a quick glance as I drive her back to Laxmi Nagar. She is sitting next to me but is totally avoiding to meet my eyes. I don’t understand how to fix this thing between us and how to source that knowledge to her but its effing important that she knows it before we get married. Her touch-me-not trait is already enough for me and now her zero knowledge on physical intimacy is making me crazy. How will this work between us? I understand she didn’t have a mother to explain her these things but didn’t she pay attention to her friends when they discussed all this? Or see in movies? Wait.. I am sure no movies will give her that depth to this subject and she is not very happy to surf things on Internet which means she literally has zero clue about it? God!! It gives me thrill and sweat, both, and I have no idea how to handle this.


She gets down the car as I drop her at the gates of her house. Without saying a word she strides to the door and I keep staring at her. How am I going to fix this?


When I return home, Daadi tells me they have decided on the wedding mahurat. It’s after 10 days and the family has plans to let the wedding happen in the same temple where we organize the Maha Puja. I don’t mind wherever the wedding takes place but I am still wondering how necessary it is for Khushi to know everything about having a physical relationship with a man before she marries me. Huh!! Tough times..


It’s night and I am still thinking about Khushi and how I teased her in the temple. The way she tied this Raksha Dhaga on my wrist and then how I confronted that I liked her followed by kissing her cheek. And then her major remark that kissing leads to babies. Gosh! I think I have an idea what to do about it. So I grab my phone and dial Khushi Gupta. Glad that she has her own mobile phone and I don’t have to call her up on landline. She answers the phone call in a sleepy voice.


“Hello”

“Were you sleeping?” I ask, leaning against the bedrest.

“You?” she clears her throat. “Why are you calling me this late? Is all okay there?”


I like the concern in her voicice.

“No. All is not okay. That’s why I called.”

“what happened? Did you remove the Raksha Dhaga? Tie it at once.”

“Sshh..Relax. It’s not about the thread.”

“Then?”

“It’s about our conversation from temple.”


She goes silent.

“Kisses don’t give you babies Khushi.”

“What are you even talking at this hour?” she instantly cuts me out.

“Let me speak” I urge. “You need to talk to your friends okay. Who is your best friend?”

“I am not telling you that. And have some shame.. we are not even married yet to speak all this.”

“It’s the right time to speak.” I snap. “In 10 days you ae going to be my wife.. The bride of Sheesh Mahal and how odd it is that you think kisses only can get to you pregnant?”


She is quiet again.

“Khushi I know you are very uncomfortable to hear all this from me but that’s important. I don’t want you to freak out later so I suggest you speak to your friend, whoever she is and ask her about it. I am doing this for your wellbeing. I don’t want to trouble or tease you but you should know. It’s a serious matter, don’t take it lightly. Are you even listening to me?”


I can hear her heartbeats which mean she is still on the line.


“Promise me you will speak to your friend.”

“You are too forward..” she gasps.

“This is basics Khushi. I am not asking you anything out of the world. Just speak to your friend.”

“Fine. I will.”

“Promise?”

“I don’t give promises. But yes, I will speak to Payal.”

“When?”


God! It feels like I am forcing her to do this.

“Give me some time.”


I don’t want to force her this so I agree.

“Okay”

I am still waiting to speak more to her when I see a shadow at my window. As if someone is sneaking and trying to hear this conversation.

“Hold on..”

I mute the call and stride to the window but as soon as I reach there, and open the window wide, the shadow is gone. My window overlooks the green garden before Sheesh Mahal and its impossible that someone could be outside the window because its too heighted here and dangerous to be around. Maybe it was an illusion. I put the phone back on my ear unmuting the call.


“Are you coming to office tomorrow?” I ask her.

“Yes.”

“Okay, I’ll see you there then.”

“Why?” she inquires in a loud tone. “I mean.. why will you meet me specifically there?”


I realize she is worrying about meeting me alone now and so I tease her some more.


“Actually it’s a tradition of our family. The groom can’t kiss his to-be wife only on one cheek. He has to kiss on both cheeks otherwise they consider it to be inauspicious.”

“I have never heard of such tradition” She argues. “Don’t think I am a fool to believe it.”

“fine.. If you think I am making you a fool, then forget it. As is I don’t believe in such orthodox traditions either” I am holding my laugh, sounding all serious.


She goes blank for a few seconds.

“I’ll be there around 10:00 am.” She finally replies and hangs up.

I grin staring at the mobile phone. How can she be so innocent? She literally believed my words on the silly kiss tradition? I hate to make her a fool so no.. I will tell her tomorrow I lied about it but that doesn’t mean I wont like to kiss her cheek again. I will..!!


With that hope, I get back on my bed to call it a night.
