Chapter 38B


Arnav’s POV

“You took my blood sample?” I connect the dots.

Khushi swallows nervously.

“How? Making me unconscious?” I glare at her. “That Almond milk was spiked?”


She is about to explain but the moment I realize whatever I am suspecting is true, I push her away and get down the bed.

“Arnav please, don’t misunderstand me.”

She blocks my way.

“Misunderstand?” He grabs my arms. “you are spiking my drink, taking out my blood.. without my permission? For what dammit?”

“To save you..” she snaps.

“Save me?” I groan. “From whom?”

“Your own self, from the spell that’s been casted on you…” she blurts out.


For a second, I am confused and then angered.

“First you said, the basement of Sheesh Mahal has some problem. We did the Havan on your insistence and now when all looks seemingly fine, you want me to believe some spell has been casted on me?”

“Yes… and your life is in danger Arnav. Please believe me. That blue-eyed version I keep seeing is no one but you.”

What? I am shocked.

“I’ve seen your eyes turning blue when you lose control over your mind and that’s because someone else is controlling you. Chandrika is controlling your mind Arnav using some spell which I am going to break.”


She cups my face and I am still unable to believe she is saying me all this.


“I can’t tell you more than that because if I do, all my attempts in saving you will be heard by Chandrika too. You have to trust me, please.”


I am about to argue but when my gaze falls upon those marks on her neck, all my anger vanishes. If whatever she is telling me is right, then I have hurt her last night. I touch her marks again.


“I can’t believe I did this to you..” I murmur apologetically. Khushi grips my wrists and then kisses my palm.

“It wasn’t you but the spell, Arnav. I know you will never harm me.”

Our foreheads touch but the mere thought of me hurting my wife kills my mood. I move her away and lock myself in the shower. If that’s true I have to do something about it.

Khushi’s POV

Arnav is hurt. I understand. And though I didn’t reveal much to him so that Chandrika doesn't get alert of our plans, I still cannot take the risk in delaying whatever Sheetal has planned to know about the spell using Arnav’s blood. Last night NK gave her the sample and today she is performing some ritual in the same guest house, in my and NK’s presence. The room is dark and the only light glowing here is of the various candles lit in a circular pattern around us. It looks spooky but I keep chanting Devi Maiyaa’s name to safeguard us all from any evil which could try to break this process. NK is nervous but I see his trust level on Sheetal is now restoring slowly. I hope they sort out whatever differences they had in the past and come back together again.


“Alright, lets begin this..” Sheetal declares lighting one more candle.

The blood sample that we passed her last night is placed in a small bowl at the center.

“I’ll need your help too, NK” Sheetal mentions and we are confused.

“My help?”

“Yes. For doing this process we need someone who shares the same bloodline of the family. We want to know what is that way through which Chandrika is controlling Arnav and since we can’t get Arnav to help us in this process as it will alert Chandrika from wherever she is controlling Arnav and will try to destroy everything here, we need someone else to replace him in the process I am going to perform now. You being from the same bloodline as the Raizadas is the one who can help.”


NK agrees.

“Fine. What do I have to do.”

Sheetal makes him sit before her, facing her and then pours the blood sample of Arnav over NK’s wrist. She then closes her eyes and keeps stroking that blood, chanting something which is alien to both of us. NK doesn't move and I keep chanting the name of Devi Maiyaa as that’s the only hope I have at this moment.


Just a minute later, we realize Sheetal is no longer chanting anything, in fact she is silent like dead. But her movements over the blood on NK’s wrist doesn't stop. Her eyes shut hard as if she is seeing something.. some flashes.. I hope these flashes she is getting give us some hint. Then her body begins to jerk and when NK realizes that, he quickly holds Sheetal in her place using his other arm. When that doesn't work for long and she shudders violently, I rush to them and grab hold of Sheetal from the other side.


Blood oozes out from Sheetal’s nostrils scaring us both.

“We have to stop this madness..” NK shouts..

He is right. We can’t let Sheetal hurt in the process. He instantly pushes his arm away which Sheetal had been stroking Arnav’s sample blood from and that’s when Sheetal’s shuddering stops. She collapses in my arms. NK brings some water for her and sprinkles it on her face.


“Sheetal? Are you okay?” I pat her cheeks and she slowly opens her eyes.


NK pulls her into his arms and keeps stroking her back. Seeing him taking so good care of her, my heart swells with love to see them as a couple.

“I am fine..” Sheetal murmurs.

“You took my breath away..” he snaps before helping her sit.

As soon as Sheetal regains her strength, she immediately turns to me.

“Arnav’s birth… where did it happen?”

I am confused why she asks me that.

“Umm… sheesh Mahal..” I mention. “And he told me it happened on a no moon night, that too at the same basement area. He was born premature by three weeks. So no one knew at home that his mother would deliver and that’s why there was no one at Sheesh mahal that night when his mother gave birth to him. Fortunately, when the family found them returning home, Arnav was safe but his mother was unconscious and they immediately rushed them to the hospital."


Sheetal gasps as she tries to reconnect something in her mind.


“What happened, Sheetal? Say something,” I urge.

NK is still holding her in his arms.

“We finally know how Chandrika has casted the spell on Arnav..” she murmurs. “She was there at Sheesh Mahal that very moment when Arnav’s mother delivered at the basement.”

“What?” I am stunned. “Yes, Khushi”

“Oh my god. You mean that’s how she has casted the spell on Arnav?”

“Not on Arnav…” Sheetal negates my remark.

“Not on Arnav? What do you mean?”


Sheetal takes a deep breath before revealing the truth.

“When I was performing this process now, I saw the flashback of Arnav’s birth which is why I asked you the story behind it. I saw… two babies..”


Two babies? What does that mean?

“One alive… and one dead…” she adds.


My heart beats frantically.

“what is that supposed to mean?” I ask.

“Means, Arnav’s mother delivered twins that night. One baby survived and the other died on the spot. Chandrika was there to kill the baby but probably when she realized that one is already dead, she took away the dead one..”


I am confused with this but Sheetal keeps on explaining to us..


“She didn’t cast a spell on Arnav, Khushi. She has casted a spell on his dead twin and that’s the one she is using to control Arnav because the twin baby had blue eyes.”


My heart lurches at the mention of it. Arnav had a twin who had blue eyes? Did the Raizada family never get to know this?

“Whatever remains of the dead body of that premature twin of Arnav is, she is still using the same to control Arnav. That’s the source of the spell casted. And for some reason, I still believe since the babies were born in that same basement area, whatever she has casted on Arnav is somewhere linked to that place. We have to search that place again Khushi and because that’s the only way to break the spell, by locating the root of it. The spot where this dead remains of that baby is which she is using to control Arnav.”


Oh my god!! Searching the basement again!! That’s going to be tedious task. So much of revelation is not enough. Why do I feel there is a bit more to the story of the basement? Maybe while digging for the root of this spell, even that secret might open up?
