Chapter 49


They say when you fall for someone, everything around you just stops. All your see is the person you love, all you hear is your heartbeats in sync with his, all you want is to hold on this moment forever. Khushi had similar set of feelings tonight. The date which her royal husband planned had swayed her off from reality and she was living in a hallucinated world she created with him by their role play. It was hard to break that spell now especially when his face was that close to hers, his lips an inch apart from touching hers, his arms grazing the sensitive skin of her waist and his breathes colliding with hers. Khushi Singh Raizada had given up. She had surrendered herself to this handsome man, allowing him to take a lead. The moment was much better than the one she had read in romantic novels or watched in movies. Only if.. Only if Arnav Singh Raizada hadn’t backed off at the last minute. She opened her eyes when his lips didn’t meet hers despite of a long wait. His gaze enough to tell her he desired the same, then what was stopping him?
“Desserts?” He swallowed the lump of pain in his throat.

Heck No!! She shrugged off from his hold and turned around. She needed a minute to calm her raging hormones and understand why Arnav Singh Raizada didn’t initiate the kiss?

Arnav served some pastries in a plate and held it between their bodies.

“Your favorite again” he cut a small piece of it and brought it near her lips.

She tasted the cake but when he tried feeding her some more, she turned her head away.

“I am full”

“Sure?”

“Very” she lied.

His hot and cold behavior had started torturing Khushi. Seeing the upsetting expressions on Khushi’s face, Arnav instantly knew the reasons. He put the plate away and pulled her closer again. She tried not to meet his eyes because if she did, he might break her desires again.

“Did I do anything to upset you?” he asked. When she didn’t reply, he was assured what bothered her. “Or did I not do anything which brought this disappointment on your face?”

Khushi still didn’t reply. He was intelligent enough to understand, wasn’t he? Arnav cupped her jaw. When his thumbs stroked her cheeks, she met his lingering eyes.

“If we kiss, it might end up in something more intense and I am not sure my wife is prepared to accept me to that level yet” he clarified.

Khushi went pale again knowing his reasons.

“And I believe we should learn to walk, before we run. That’s exactly why I didn’t kiss you Mrs. Khushi Singh Raizada. But I promise not to make you wait for very long”

Goosebumps erupted on her skin again bringing a smile on her lips.

“Very thoughtful Mr. Royal Raizada” she praised.

“It’s so good to hear you praising me”

“Keep doing such good work and you shall be rewarded” she giggled.

That was meant to make him laugh but instead he pressed his lips on her forehead. She clutched his wrists tight. His palms had still cupped her jaw and their eyes were closed. Arnav showed no urgency in pulling his lips away from her skin. Her body burned with desire for him.

“Dance?” he whispered drawing away from his wife. There wasn’t any special music. Just the cool breeze enveloped them as she grooved with him for a ball dance. His moves were slow and typical royalish.

“Feels like I am dancing with a Royal Prince” she mumbled.

He twirled her around and pulled her back to him in one gentle move.

“And you are my Royal princess” he whispered in her ears.

She wrapped her arms around his neck. The chemistry was there. She could feel it. And the way he understood her these days, she knew it won’t take long for her to accept him wholeheartedly.

After enjoying the dance in each other’s arms, when she looked exhausted, Arnav decided to wind it up. Their date was finally coming to an end.

“Two more things left before we wrap up” he said walking to the table where they had dined and took out a small box. “For you”

She took the box from him but didn’t open it yet.

“Let me guess, it’s a ring.. or earring.. or bracelet.”

Arnav nodded his head in denial.

“Something priceless than that”

Her curiosity grew as she slowly opened the little box, only to be thrilled watching the fireflies (Jugnu) dispersing out. Khushi’s heart swelled with love knowing he put so much efforts in arranging this gift for her.

“It wasn’t easy to catch them” he exclaimed. “But I wanted to see this smile on your face”

As soon as the last firefly made its way in the open sky, Khushi wrapped her arms around his body and hugged him tight. Her husband indeed had taken into consideration all her likes tonight. She loved watching fireflies in her childhood and even used to catch them in glass bottle to see them light their bodies until she released them again. It was fun. Definitely Payal and Suhani must have fed him with this information but the way he presented it all tonight, made her heart clench. She recalled something and pulled away.

“You said two more things left.. One was this gift of fireflies. Whats the next?” she queried.

Arnav put a weak smile on his face. The last and the most crucial part of this date was his apology. He held her hand in his and touched it to his heart.

“People have known me for a man of few words. I might never be good enough to express my emotions even to the closest people I know. It never bothered me until tonight as I have no words to convey my heartfelt apologies to you”

Khushi stiffened.

“I had no rights to force you in this marriage. I am sorry Khushi.. For all the lies I have told to get you in my life.. For all the false promises I made regarding your career… for all the times I have hurt your heart… For every second I have been the reason for your pain. I am sorry”

His eyes slightly turned moist. He bowed his head, hoping for her to accept his apology. Khushi was speechless for a minute. The man was a Royal in himself. She had seen him commanding people, forcing them with his choices. Where had that rude dominating man gone? The one standing before her was anything but him. She beamed at him. A warmth filled her chest hearing his words. Wow!!

“I forgive you” she murmured forcing him to raise his head.

His heart lurched against his ribcage.

“You don’t have to be in this guilt for long” she added. “Our marriage has really turned fruitful for me. I don’t think I would get a better man in my life, in your place. I might have hated you for how you were but you are no longer that man Arnav. I have never respected anyone that much, the way I respect you now. You love your family, you protect them all like each of them matters to you and that one quality in you is enough to earn you my forgiveness. You are forgiven Mr. Royal Raizada. I forgive you”

Arnav felt like pulling her against his mouth and kissing her hard. And he did. Within seconds after their lips touched, he felt her responding. Her fingers grabbed his hair while his touched her nape and lower. The feeling was mutual. The magnetic attraction the two had for each other from past few days flared tonight. And as Arnav had suspected, none of the two showed any urgency of stopping things only with the Kiss. Khushi didn’t realize when her back hit the bonnet of the car and he lifted her to make her sit on it. She was glad he grasped her knees had gone weak and she needed to relax her body to continue this.

Something sharp rang a little away from them. None of the two want to pay a heed to it but when the noise started irritating, Khushi pulled away. It was her mobile phone which was ringing on the table they dined.

“I got to take this call” she pleaded and he gave her some space to walk away.

She got down the car and stumbled. It was like the kiss had drained all her energy.

“I will get it” he said striding to the table. Khushi admired his back. She had crumpled his Suit and the creases proved it. His hair looked ruffled and that’s when she thought of checking her own state. The pleats of her saree were loose which she immediately tucked neatly before he noticed her again. Her lip gloss was wiped off and when he returned back to her with the mobile, she saw it stuck on his face and lips. Damn!!

“Pick the call sweetheart” he smirked when she didn’t show any signs of answering.

“Yea..” she grabbed her phone and answered her assistant’s call. “Millie”

“Ma’am. Sorry to disturb you so late. I just wanted to check what time should I pick you from the airport tomorrow for the auditions?”

The web series audition had skipped from Khushi’s mind.

“Uhh..” she tried to recall her schedule. “Pick me up at 10:00”

“Great. Good night Ma’am. See you tomorrow”

Arnav checked his watch. It was half past ten now.

“We should leave. You need 8 hours sleep at least before you fly tomorrow”

Khushi nodded in agreement. Before he could open the car door for her, she stopped him and wiped off the lipstick marks from his face and lips. Arnav allowed her to do that as his brothers wouldn’t stop teasing him if they saw those. Arnav on the other hand brushed her hair to look presentable again. It only peeked her desires for this man but she composed them and got inside the car. This was the best date they had. The thought of going away from his man for next few days bothered her.

Same night – Shantivan

When Arnav and Khushi returned home, one of his spy sources greeted them at the door. Arnav was startled.

“What are you doing here at this hour Ramesh?” he asked.

Khushi could have stopped but he gestured her to head to their room and not bother. By the look on Arnav’s face she could say the man was important and whatever information he had got for Arnav was a priority too. Yet, not willing to defy her husband’s wishes she strode to the bedroom.

“Sir, this is regarding the background verification of Anamika, the new caretaker”

“What about her?”

“We had been to the address she mentioned in her details before joining here. No one called Anamika stays there. The house belongs to someone else from past 10 years”

“And the experience letter she showed?”

“Fake. She has no work experience. She is clearly a traitor with some motives”

Arnav lost his cool as his spy continued.

“You recall the unknown woman who had entered from the backdoor of Shantivan?”

Arnav nodded. That investigation was still open and assigned to the team handled by this same source.

“We matched her features in the software with Anamika’s. She is the same woman. The match with 99 percent match”

Arnav let out a frustrated groan. He never wanted to trust Anamika ever since she was here. Her voice.. the way she walked… it felt like he knew her. And now he had proofs.

“I don’t want to delay this. Whatever her motive is, I am going to expose her right away”

The source nodded.

“I can get the police to arrest her. We have enough proofs now to press charge against her”

“Not yet” Arnav scoffed. “Before her arrest, she will have to tell me what her plan is and whom she works for”

Waving off the Source, Arnav strode to the servant quarters where he expected Anamika to be sleeping. The door cracked open and as he lit the light, he realized she wasn’t in here. Where can she go at this hour of night?

“Avni.. don’t go” Aman growled as she made way to the door.

He and Avni had to meet secretly and thankfully Daadi was resting in her room which gave them enough time tonight to talk.

“I have to go before someone notices us together Aman. Remember they don’t know your memories are intact and none of us knows I am Avni and not Anamika”

“About that” Aman sighed rising on his feet. “We have to think fast over it and come to a resolve. I don’t like us being separated for long. Why don’t you join me to Mumbai?”

Avni chuckled.

“You must be joking. I work for your Daadi, Aman”

“But you can take leaves”

“Only well planned leaves. And now I don’t have much time to plan. You and Khushi are going tomorrow morning”

Aman realized she was right.

“To be honest, I had no plans to stretch my stay here but now that my heart is here.. I will come back for you” he promised kissing her forehead.

Something stirred inside Avni’s body. A secret that she was withholding from quite some time. Should she tell him? But she didn’t want to upset him right now. She decided to tell him after he returns back from Mumbai. She hugged him tight, hoping he comes back soon.
