Chapter 26

Singapore

The dinner was served but Khushi Gupta mainly focused on the Vodka shots. She was a passive eater and active drinker right now. Arnav had not even finished 3 shots but she was done with 4.

“I don’t think you should drink more” Arnav advised politely.

“Why?” she smirked. “Only because I am a woman? You wouldn’t have mind me drinking if I was a man”

“I never discriminate people by their gender” he snapped. “Its just that I want you to be in your senses tonight”

Here she wanted to lose all of her to him and he wanted her to be in senses? How bad!! Khushi leaned closer over the table.

“What’s your plan for tonight Mr. Raizada?”
It wasn’t she asking, it was the effect of the Vodka. Arnav rolled his eyes.

“You cannot dictate what I can do or cannot do. I am having the upper hand in this deal.. not you” she added as a frown appeared on her forehead. “Get yourself one more drink Raizada”

Arnav leaned back on his seat.

“One of us has to be sober tonight” he responded.

Miss Gupta was creating havoc to his senses and that was mainly why he chose to drink less. One mistake and everything would be out of control.

“What kind of woman do you like?” she asked.

Arnav wasn’t offended but the question coming from her got him puzzled.

“Don’t take me wrong” she smirked. “If we got to act for our siblings, we should know each other’s choices”

She was right.

“A woman with not many defenses around her” he teased.

Khushi inhaled roughly. It clearly meant she cannot be his choice ever.

“Your eyes and words don’t match Mr. Raizada” she debated.

Arnav’s body stiffened again. That’s so right. Anyone could see how much he wanted this woman closer to his body.

“Is that a complaint?”

“No” she sipped her drink again. “Just an observation”

She was stealing a piece of his heart every time she looked at him. It wasn’t his fault. She looked radiant tonight. Arnav crushed the thought of gazing her further and gulped his next shot. None of two had any interest in the food anymore. Yet, they ate and drank until both felt their inner guards loosening.

Arnav paid the bill and stood up to leave. She stumbled a bit while making her way out and Arnav immediately grabbed her waist.

“Stop saving me every time” she mumbled.

“I think I am getting used to this” he drew her closer. Their faces were inches apart. Something strange built up in their bodies again. Khushi lowered her gaze.

“You are a good man Arnav”

“Glad you acknowledged” he smiled tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

“But I am flawed” a lone tear escaped her eye and she clinged to his Shirt. The drinks made her slowly open her heart to him. And though Arnav desperately wanted to know every part of her life, he couldn’t risk this if it made her so emotional.

“Everyone has their own demons Khushi. You are not an exception”

Khushi’s eyes fluttered. He was the only one who made her feel alive and sensible these days. Her phone buzzed.

“My phone.. where is my phone” she fished for her mobile, dropping things from her purse in the process.

“Stop … stop doing that” Arnav groaned seeing her urgency and started picking the things that fell from her purse. Lip gloss, black elastic band and a pepper spray bottle. Khushi found her phone and checked the caller Id.

“Dammit” she disconnected the call. “These people wont… wont let me live in peace”

Arnav rose to his feet and passed her belongings.

“You keep a pepper spray?” he let out a soft chuckle. She snatched the bottle and stuffed it in her purse.

“Some people deserve this” she answered but her tone wasn’t normal. She sounded scared.

Arnav instantly cupped her face, his eyes filled with possessiveness. He had wanted to ask her this from long. He recalled that day when he drove her car speedily and she lost her conscious and when she woke up, she fought with him to get off her. She was in some kind of a trauma. He had sensed it that she had gone through some trouble in her childhood.

“Did anyone… hurt you?”

Khushi’s eyes shut with passion. He was the only one who asked her this question, the only man who genuinely wanted to know the truth. She had built walls around her darkness and she threatened if he was getting closer to them day by day.

“Would you believe me?” she moved her face to touch his palm and rubbed it softly.

The ease on Arnav’s face vanished. She looked troubled and in solitude.

“I would just not believe you but also burn the people alive who neglected you so far”

His reply soothed her. She dropped her purse and clutched his shirt collar. If she was a maze to him, he was a mystery to her. Despite being so hard on him, he had always been so gentle and caring for her. She had started pitying him for what she had made him do so far.

Her phone rang again. She let out a growl before putting a distance between them yet again.

“Why don’t they leave me alone?” she was about to throw her phone but he caught her wrist.

“Just turn it off”

He had a point. She switched off her phone.

“Good night.. night Mr.. Mr… whats your name you said?” she tried hard to recall.

Arnav laughed and gave a gentle pat on her cheeks.

“You will remember it tomorrow”

He dragged her to the elevator.

“A lot can happen in the elevator” she teased pouting at him innocently. Arnav gazed at her like he would eat her alive in that confined space of the elevator. As they stepped inside, she kept holding her hands, fearing to lose him. The elevator dinged on her floor and the doors opened.

“Why are we not on the same floor?” she complained.

“To keep you safe from me” he hoarsely replied.

She laughed. It was a quick snorty laugh and Arnav couldn’t help admiring her face.

“4 shots and we are .. we are unsafe for each other. huhh?” she queried.

Arnav had blocked the doors of the elevator for her to leave, though every inch of his body wanted to stop her.

“Good night Miss Gupta.. Go back to your room and sleep well”

She stepped back, their hands slowly entwining but none of the two could take their eyes off each other. Arnav was already drowsy and she was high. It was wrong to be with each other. They should part for the night. As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she gave him the saddest look as the doors started closing again. Arnav fisted his fingers to control the urge of getting back to her. The elevator accelerated to its course towards the top floors. Khushi lazily dragged herself to her room, her fingers fumbled for the keys. What was wrong with her that she couldn’t unlock a simple door? It wasn’t just the alcohol. This was mixed with some kind of unexplored passion she felt for the man who left her alone on this floor. How… How very dare of him?

The keys fell down from her hand and she was about to bend to pick them up when someone else did it for her. It was him again!! Arnav Singh Raizada raised himself on his feet holding the keys. Khushi blinked twice, thrice to confirm he was really back.

“Give me the keys” she demanded.

Arnav moved his hand away from her, at his back. She leaned closer.

“I want my keys back” she growled.

“You cannot even stand by yourself… you can’t open the door” he replied.

“Stop acting like you care” she punched his chest.

He turned around, unlocked and pushed the door open for her to enter. She gave his cheeks a pat.

“Good boy…”

She stepped inside and held the door for some support. Arnav was still out. Whoever said goodbyes sucked, they were right. She watched his face lazily and then her gaze lowered upon his neck and chest. The top two buttons of his Shirt were undone, making her gulp. And then a smile popped on her lips again. Arnav read her face clearly. She wanted him as much as he wanted her. And it was high time he leaves this door. He took a turn only to be stopped by her hold.

“Stay” He heard her saying. It wasn’t a plea.. it was a demand. Arnav turned back to her. His control was slipping hard.

“I don’t do sleepovers” he replied forcing her to get off her arm.
Rejection pricked her. She wanted to bang the door on her face but she couldn’t. Pain spread on her face and expressions as she pushed him away.

“Then Go!! Just get out of here. I am..” she hit her back to the wall behind. Arnav took a step towards her but she stopped him. “Don’t. I don’t need your support. I am not alone.. You heard that.. I am not alone.. I am enough for myself. I …”

This time she couldn’t support her feet and toppled on the floor. Arnav instantly got in the room and kneeled down to pick her in arms as the door shut behind him.

“Don’t touch me” she scowled in his ears.

“Shut up” he grunted and carried her in arms.

“I will sue you for this..” she struggled to get down. Her each effort to back off was just pulling the two closer.

Arnav laid her on the bed.

“I will sue you.. Get you in handcuffs. You heard me?”

Arnav removed her shoes. She recalled something and let out a hearty laugh.

“I would love to see you in handcuffs…” she added.

Arnav had no clue, his eyes were closing but he tried to be awake.

“My handcuffs.. my … man… in my control..” she mumbled.

Arnav imagined the picture in his mind and couldn’t stop blushing.

“You have some serious… desires Miss Gupta”

“I desire?” she pulled his hand and made him sit next to her. “You .. you forgot? You gave me the offer..”

Arnav swallowed nervously. What was she referring to?

“Which offer?”

“An offer which a man like you wouldn’t make to every woman you meet”

Arnav recalled she was still in the misunderstanding about he offering her keys to Prem Nivas.

“No gentleman would … would do that” she poked her finger on his chest.

Arnav rolled his eyes.

“You are a hypocrite”

“Shut up Khushi”

“Fraud” she added.

“Khushi.. I said… shut up”

“Pervert”

That’s it. He grabbed her nape and pulled her closer.

“One more word against my dignity and you will face the consequences” he threatened. It was definitely not a quiet, comfortable moment. Their bodies burned for each other. Alcohol took over all possible sensibilities. She palmed his cheek and then pressed her lips to his in an unhurried, chaste kiss that blew his control. He kissed her back roughly, drinking in her taste. When he felt her fingers fidgeting with his shirt buttons, his sane mind was back. He clutched her wrists and pulled back.

“We don’t want to repeat what La and NK did” he whispered. “If we hold them wrong, we will be wrong too”

Khushi let out a groan. She never sounded or behaved desperate like she acted with him right now.

“Sleep” he made her lie down on the bed again and pulled the comforter on her body. She closed her eyes but never left their handhold. She wanted him close to her and he was…

****************

It was 04:00 in the morning when Arnav woke up. His body ached badly. He was sitting down the bed, holding Khushi Gupta’s hand who was sleeping cozily. Damnmit!! Last night memories flashed in his head. For the first time in his life, he had broken one of his rule. He kissed a woman who wasn’t in her senses, the woman whom he knew hated him for many reasons. The woman who was weak and vulnerable last night. This was definitely not good for their image together. Displeased by his own self, he rose back to his feet and left her room. Unsorted emotions and desires clouded his heart as he reached his room and flopped on the bed. Morning when he would face her again, it wasn’t going to be the same anymore. He just hoped Khushi Gupta doesn’t put the entire blame on him because she too was an equal participant in it. And sooner or later he had to apologize to her for the unintended kiss though it was one of the best moment of his life so far.

  14. I hope khushi will not blame arnav for the kiss because she started it. Seems like khushi is traumatized and she didn’t take care of it. That changed her personality completely. Wish someone would change her with love and care. It doesn’t have to be Arnav, even Nani can change her with her love. Wish to read more of their past moments. Loved it!

  17. I really hope khushi doesn't get into defensive mode after this.... If Arnav says sorry for the kiss then she surely will say it doesn't mean anything to her...thats her charector... She can't handle rejection... It was something from her past which deeply hurted her... She hurt herself before letting anyone hurt her..... I don't know Arnav is getting tangled in it...
