Chapter 1
Arnav’s POV
Tyagi leads us through the beautiful garden towards the main door and I already make my mind to do my morning Jog here. Is that safe? Running outside the house but inside the vicinity of the Villa? Ever since the pandemic has started, everyone is using this phrase “is it safe?” for almost anything and everything.
“Bhai, I am not going to share my room with anyone. I need a private bedroom” Akash mutters drawing my full attention to him.
“You think I can share a room? Of course, I need some privacy too Akash. You snore bad”
“I snore?” He is offended. “What about you? You kick all night”
“I don’t kick”
“Oh you do. Remember on Di’s wedding when we had to share a same room because we had to give my room to Sheela Aunty and there were no available rooms in the hotel?”
Alright. That was one night I wish to forget. Akash’s snores didn’t let me sleep for long and when I finally got some peaceful sleep, he woke me up, scared and sweating. Not his fault. My actions made him do so and it was totally embarrassing. It mortified me even now when Akash opened up that topic again.
“You kicked off all the sheets, cuddled me and tried to kiss my damn neck Bhai”
That’s it. I wish I could rewind that night.
“I told you I was dreaming. I didn’t kick you… I kicked the sheets off” I defend.
“And what about the cuddle and kiss?”
“That was just some collateral damage”
“That was Over the top” Akash argues but I know he is grinning inside that mask.
He had broadcasted that incident to Di and the rest of my family and since then everyone wanted to know what I was dreaming about. I still get goosebumps when I recall that dream. I have never been so interested in a woman just by a glimpse of her. I had just seen her once during Di’s wedding, wearing a Peacock green Lehenga Choli, talking to some of the staff of the hotel. She was definitely not from our side family and I don’t think she was known to Di’s in-laws. I still wonder who she was because that one glimpse of hers had given me a torturous night, imagining myself sleeping with her and doing things to her which only I could imagine doing with a woman. I have been a saint so far, no girlfriends, no casual hookups and definitely no sleeping with women despite being coaxed by my Casanova friends and cousins. I don’t want to share myself with anyone and lose my focus on Business.
“See, you are lost again” Akash shakes me hard.
“Shut up” I snap and walk faster than him to avoid this conversation from extending. Tyagi rings the doorbell once, twice, thrice and then stares at our faces.
“Did you really get us in the right Villa Tyagi?” Akash asks. “I don’t think anyone stays here”
“I cannot make such a mistake Akashji. I am sure the girls must be busy”
“We need a goddamm key of this Villa” I scowl. “I cannot rely on them to open the door for me when I come from outside?”
“Bhai you are forgetting something. We are getting quarantined which means we have to Inside, for 14 days”
Oh yes. I remember that now. The door creaks open and I finally take a sigh of relief.
“Hello Payal” Tyagi greets.
“Hello Tyagiji. Sorry for the delay in opening the door”
“We don’t mind” Akash grinned and the way he is staring at that woman I can say he is already gaga over her. “We understand you must have been busy”
She looks a bit shy in that Yellow salwar and I believe she is the innocent one Tyagi mentioned about. The rebellious one will be inside, I am sure. I hope she is busy and I don’t get to see her soon as I am in no mood of more meet and greets.
“They are the Raizada brothers I told you about. He is Mr Akash Singh Raizada and that is Arnav Singh Raizada”
I am glad Tyagi introduced us. I push the trolley bag ahead.
“Can we get inside now?” I ask in urgency as I am in serious need to use the washroom. I couldn’t risk using the common one in the Airport.
“Sure” She swallows adjusting the mask on her face and moves aside, opening the door completely for us to get in. Tyagi thanks Payal and heads back to the car. His job here is done.
“Wait there you two”
No way!! Akash literally jumps at the sudden command whereas I look in the direction from where it came and see her.. Thats her!! The same woman whom I had seen in Di’s wedding. Though I cannot see her face clearly all thanks to the pink brocade mask that hides it, but I am sure its her. She is wearing a Red tank top and a checkered black pajama. I cannot believe my fate. She glares at us as if we have breached some major rule of the house and drags her sister behind, who was standing too close to Akash at the moment.
“Put some distance Payal. Don’t you see they have just returned from an International travel”
“Haven’t you?” I argue. “I heard you both returned from middle east this morning”
“That’s right” She glares back. “But please maintain some distance with us. Only because we need to stay here for 14 days together, doesn’t mean you can breach any rules. Did you sanitize your hands and bags?”
I roll my eyes and Payal quickly points out to the sanitizer bottle at the left. Akash doesn’t wait for a second instruction. He quickly sanitizes his hands and waits for me to do the same but I don’t. The woman who had tortured in my dream that night was so sober, passive and willing to let me command, but in reality, she is totally opposite. That’s why they say sometimes, never believe your dreams to be completely true. They are called dreams because they are far away from reality.
“Hi. I am Akash” Akash quickly breaks the silence between us. “Sorry, we didn’t realize there was a sanitizer here at the entrance”
“You look the decent kind to me” She says.
“Excuse me? Who are you to judge that?”
“Your Housemate!!” she replies. “And you still didn’t sanitize. Let me warn you, until you do, you are not allowed entry in this house”
“What the..”
“Khushi” Payal quickly grabs her sister’s hand and I finally get to know her name. Khushi!! Hmm.. “what are you doing? Stop embarrassing them. They must be tired and..”
“She seems to be the most understanding one between you two” I comment and Khushi gives me a warning stare. “We are housemates, right? I am allowed to make that judgment like you did a while ago”
“Bhai” Akash drags me to the sanitizer bottle. “Why are we arguing with them? And as far as I remember, you had a deadly emergency to use the washroom”
Yes. I forgot that. So, without wasting more time I quickly sanitize my hands and Payal points out our rooms which happens to be on the ground floor.
“Why not the rooms at the first floor?” I ask.
“Sorry but me and Khushi already occupied them. The other two bedrooms are down and we left it for you two” Payal answers.
“First come first serve” Khushi shouts from behind us and I give her a cold stare and follow Payal, maintaining distance.
*****************
Khushi’s POV
I seriously cannot believe this man was arguing with me when all I wanted was the safety of all of us. I see Payal returning and she looks displeased with my act.
“Khushi, you just start anywhere, don’t you? Poor guys. They look so exhausted and one of them almost ran to the washroom the moment I showed him the room”
“Must be that arrogant one” I grin. “I knew he was controlling”
Payal’s eyes widen at my comment and then we both laugh heartily.
“You were drooling the other one a lot. What was his name?” I try to recall.
“Akash”
Her instant reply and the blush on her cheeks makes me believe I am right.
“Don’t even think about any man until this pandemic is over” I warn. “Plus, Dad has other plans, you forgot?”
Payal sighs in disappointment.
“You think he still wants to get us married in two months?”
I nod.
“He is very adamant about our marriage. This pandemic has made him think the world will end soon and he wants to see his daughters getting married before that happens”
Payal shrugs.
“Whatever. We will talk to him once we meet but right now, I am so hungry. Did you happen to order something?”
“I did and guess what did I order?”
Her eyeballs widen seeing my excitement and we both shout together.
“Pizzaaaaaaaaa”
The Pizza is delivered at the door after one hour and that delay is unavoidable considering we at least have a choice to order food and not rely on self-cooking all the time. Only after Payal ensures the boxes are safely packed and the proper hygiene standards are followed, I allow her to get it to the table.
“Did you order four medium size Pizzas?” Payal asks and I am about to deny that when one of the brothers, Payal’s recent crush, Akash interrupts.
“We ordered two"
Oh.!! I quickly rush to the table to separate our Pizza’s from theirs.
“Stop”
Akash’s brother Arnav yells before I could touch the boxes. I frown at his unnecessary command.
“Did you sanitize your hands again?” His mocking tone doesn’t go well with me.
And what the hell!! He is throwing my words at me again? Payal holds her laugh. I press the sanitizer bottle, spilling some in my palms and rub them. I do all that without taking my eyes off this arrogant man whose face I haven’t seen fully yet. He is wearing another navy-blue mask and is out freshly showered. On a Black T-Shirt and Blue denims, he looks way too casual and dressed up for being home.
“Rules are the same for all, isn’t it?” he adds, reaching the table and separating his Pizza boxes from ours.
“Right” Payal answers and I am surprised my sister took his side.
“Well…” Akash presses his specs and grins at us. “Now since we are going to share this house for few days, how about we have a proper introduction first? It will be easy to communicate and feel like home”
“I don’t think that’s necessary” I negate that idea. “I know your plans. You will first introduce yourselves and then you will make us your friends so that you both could relax and we do all the household chores. Sorry, that’s not happening”
Arnav and Akash both stare at me bewildered.
“Is she even for real?” Arnav scowls.
“Why don’t you pinch yourself and check if you are real first?” I debate annoying him further. Arnav is about to take a step towards me when Akash blocks his way and Payal blocks mine.
“Guys, what’s wrong with you two?” Akash scolds. “I know we are not at the very best situation right now but we need to adjust with each other”
“He is right” Payal adds. “We are sensible adults who are going to share the same roof for two weeks. We need to coordinate with each other rather than making our lives more complex”
“I am in” Akash replies.
“So am I. Just check with your sister first” Arnav says to Payal who smiles at me hoping I would give up this unnecessary argument at least now.
“Don’t make me the only evil here” I tell Payal who grabs my arms.
“Right now, you are the only one who is the odd man out” She scolds.
“Woman” Akash corrects. “Odd woman out”
Payal shies again and I don’t understand. Even Arnav stares at his brother confused to know what’s brewing between them.
“Whatever” I sigh. “Only for you and some peace in the house, I am doing this” I say to Payal and face the two gentlemen. “I am Khushi Gupta and she is my elder sister Payal Gupta. We are from Delhi”
“Delhi?” Akash grins. “So are we. I am Akash Singh Raizada and he is my elder brother Arnav Singh Raizada”
“Nice meeting you two” Payal smiles and elbows me to say something.
“Let’s divide the work evenly” I declare. “Cleaning of the house, cooking ..”
“Can we first eat?” Arnav intervenes sternly. “The Pizzas are getting cold and don’t know about the Gupta sisters but we Raizada brothers like it HOT”
There he goes pissing me off again.
“So, do we” Payal breaks the silence again between us while I keep throwing daggers from my eyes towards him.
*****************
Arnav’s POV
Khushi Gupta is one hot headed woman who has probably decided to rebel over anything and everything I say or do. I don’t understand if she is the same with everyone else too in the outside world? As we sit across the table to eat our respective Pizzas, she takes out her mask leaving me breathless for a moment as I get to see her face without any hinderance. She looks the same, probably even more pretty than she was three years ago. I never thought the woman who had grabbed my attention on Di’s wedding, even if it was only for a few minutes, would be this close to me again and I will have to practically stay with her under the same roof. It’s too soon to ask her what she was doing in Di’s wedding and I suppose she has no remembrance of that either or maybe she never saw me before. Whatever it is, I know one thing for sure, the coming 14 days are going to be either the best days of my life or I might be screwed up bad. But if I can sustain the changes this pandemic has brought in our lives, I can tolerate anything else too.

She doesn’t waste a minute and comes to the point whereas I don’t miss to notice the calm she is trying to pretend. I know she is burning from within.
“It’s none of your business what I speak to my sister-in-law”
My reply irks her even more.
“It is my damn business if I am the one you are conversing about. I had been to her Café last night and..”
“She offered you and your friend a free meal” I completed.
She frowns.
“So, she told you that and yet you are pretending like nothing is wrong with it?”
I rise from my chair and circle the table to reach her. It’s not a point asking her to sit. I know she wouldn’t.
“Jiya is being very generous. That’s all it is about”
“Generous? Why on me? I don’t even know her unless she knows me through you”
She swallows the painful knot formed in her throat. I knew Avni would be angry but never thought she would be so hurt.
“What have you told her Aryan?” she repeats.
“Nothing that is not true” My blunt reply infuriates her.
I am playing with words just to see what level she is ready to cross to hear me out today. Avni strides to me and stands closer.
“And what is that truth you told her?” She demands.
“Are you even ready to hear that truth?” I tease her back. “Because the last time I tried explaining, you left the city Avni Singh”
She cringes and my heart pounds so hard that I think it might burst.
“You fled from the town as you had some serious issues with rich men which I assume you still do.”
“It’s my headache” she snaps. “Why do you have a problem with that?”
“Because I WANT YOU in my life, Avni. And I need to know what is standing in my way”
She freezes and stares at me doubtfully. The silence between us is excruciating. Pain twists in my chest as she looks away disapproving my desires.
I grip her elbow and turn her around. “Is it money? Class? Status? What is it that’s forcing you to reject me?” I growl.
“Let me go” she struggles to be free but I tighten my hold on her instead.
“Six years Avni. I have waited for six long years for this conversation and I am not letting you go without listening to me this time”
This is really amazing 😀😀😀....
