Chapter 52


Arnav’s POV


Kali Bawdi, the scariest deserted fort area in the outskirts of Delhi, is where Chandrika has been hiding all his long? Its freaking me out even thinking what else she would be doing at the moment to get a control on me. NK and Akash are on calls with the police to try locating Chandrika but I have told them not to make her alert that we are aware of her location.. not until I decide how to end all this. I’m aware the Lunar eclipse is only 12 hours away from happening which means we don’t have much time to put an end to the spell somehow.

“Shyam,” Di’s voice breaks my trance. She reaches him and tugs at his shirt. “Why did you do all this? You played me with them?”

“I played you?” he scoffs. “Anjali, you have been playing with the family’s feelings right from your childhood.”

“They are not my family.” She snaps.

“Not your family?” he laughs sarcastically. “Do you even know what you are saying? This family might not be related to you by blood but they have always treated you as one.”

“That’s because they didn’t know I wasn’t one of them.” She argues.

“But you knew it didn’t you? Then why didn’t you tell them and get away from them if you hate them so much, rather than sticking to them and hurting the family? Why Anjali?”

“For revenge.. They killed my father.”

“We didn’t,” Daadi interrupts. “That night was an accident, Anjali. My husband was trying to save himself from Chandrika who had a knife in her hand and wanted to pierce it in his heart. Your father came in between to save my husband and in the process of doing that, the knife stabbed his heart and he died.”


Tears flow down her cheeks as Di hears the truth.


“I don’t believe you… That’s not the truth.”

“It is the only truth you need to know because we don’t know what Chandrika has fed in your head. Your mother had left your father long back even when she was pregnant with his child. That’s when Arnav’s father got her in Sheesh Mahal thinking she was a lonely woman in need of help. And what did your mother do? Despite being married to someone else, she put her evil eye on my son, and when we got to know this and asked her to leave, she started blackmailing us of telling the world that the child in her womb belonged to my son. That’s when my husband, Arnav’s grandfather tried to dig for her history and we called your father to Sheesh Mahal to take her back. Unfortunately, he had to lose his life… because of your mother.”


Di keeps stepping behind in anger and confusion.

“You… tried to kill her too.. and bury her alive..”

“We didn’t try to kill her,” Daadi continues. “Chandrika cut her wrist cursing us that she would come back for revenge. We thought she died. That was our mistake and only to save our dignity, we buried their bodies at the backyard of Sheesh Mahal.”

“yes you buried her and thank God to Kanika Maai who saved her.”

“Kanika Maai..?” Khushi interrupts.


Di doesn't say anything but remains quiet.

“You know her?” I ask Khushi who shakes her head.

“Arnav you know that mad woman who always tried to scare you off? Her name was Kanika Maai.. The one who died a few days she tried scaring you a few times. She used to practice black magic too and hence people of this town had banned her from entering this place.”


Oh!

“Yes,” Di angrily continues. “She saved my mother because she saw your grandfather and grandmother burying these bodies. When she realized my mother was alive, she took her away to Kali Bawdi where she stayed originally after the people of this town had banished her. She treated my mother, and then even taught her the darkest secrets of casting spell.”


The grin on Di’s face tells me she is still so proud of her dark world and the knowledge she had on it. Now we all know how Chandrika managed to get out from where she was buried and how she continued her pregnancy while learning the deeper acts of black magic to get revenge. Now I connect the dots. Whilst Chandrika was recovering from her bruises after cutting her wrist, my parents got married and within two months my mother was also conceiving her first child. She had early labor and in the hospital she lost her baby who was prematurely delivered. Since Chandrika was in the same hospital that time and had delivered her twins, she got the perfect timing to give away one of her child, means Anjali di to the Raizadas so that they raise her as their own and so that someday Chandrika can use her for her benefit to get every inner secret of this family. That woman had really planned her revenge well.


“It’s over now,” Shyam exhales turning to Di. “Whatever you did Anjali is not something I can forget ever. You chose you side and I choose mine today. I am supporting this family who have given me so much love. I wish you too could see how good they are. You are revenging the wrong people for the wrong motive, Anjali. I wish you hadn’t done that. In fact now after knowing your real face, I wish I’d never met you.”

“Don’t say so, Shyam. I… I am ready to leave all of this.. You.. you don’t want me to support my mother. I wont… We will go away from this place and start our own family..” she cups his cheeks but he shrugs her hands away.

“A woman who can betray the family who gave her the best so far, can never be the one I can think of wanting in my life. We end here, Anjali. I can’t tolerate you anymore..”

“Shyam..” she scowls. “Take back your words..”

“I wouldn’t.. Because I mean each and every word I just said.. Just pray to god that this family doesn't hand you over to the police for putting them into so much trouble because if I was in their place, I would have done the same.”


Di looks aghast at his remark and then she laughs hysterically..

“You all will die..” she laughs. “Each one of you..”


My eyes tear seeing her cursing us. How could she not see how much we all loved her? Khushi presses my arm to give me the strength I need to witness a rough moment like this.

“You all will die… hhahahaha” she continues laughing, making me hate her too. She was my inspiration. I had given her place in my heart next to my mothers but she wasn’t worth it. I make my way to her and grab Di’s arms tight. Khushi keeps following me to ensure Di doesn't do anything to harm me.


Di’s laughing subsides as she looks in my eyes.


“You want us to die?” I ask her angrily.

“Yes Chotte..” she smiles. “Die die die.. but don’t worry. My mother will make you die the last. You’ll kill them all with your bare hands before you kill yourself.”


She laughs again. I am sick of her confidence.


“Your mother…” I clench my jaw. “Wouldn’t be able to touch my family..” I say. “And if there is anyone who needs to die.. its HER”

“ARNAV…” She angrily pushes me with all her might but I don’t nudge. Akash and NK rush to help and they catch hold of Di who seems to have lost her mental balance totally. It’s hard to see her like this.


“Hand her over to the police medical team. Let them decide what punishment she gets by law.”


Saying that I walk back to my room hearing Di’s loud screaming behind. She is never going to make it to being normal again. I can feel it. I might save my family somehow by tracing Chandrika and save my family but I already feel I have lost my sister forever. She was never my sister.. even if she meant the world to me.

Chandrika’s POV

Next Day – Forty Five minutes to Lunar Eclipse


“Eem. Bhreem… kreem… naash.. vinaash… kreem..”

“Eem. Bhreem… kreem… naash.. vinaash… kreem..”

“Eem. Bhreem… kreem… naash.. vinaash… kreem..”

“Eem. Bhreem… kreem… naash.. vinaash… kreem..”


I circle the bones around the skull, putting the black seeds into the blood.. my blood. It’s a very sacred black ritual I am performing to get a control on Arnav’s mind. But why am I not seeing any effect? The blood in the vessel should turn black but its not. Something is coming in my way to reach Arnav’s mind. What is it? What the hell is it?

“Mohan,” I turn to my son who is standing some feet away, waiting for my command.

“Yes Maa.”

“Any update from Anjali?”


He denies.

“Nothing. I have tried calling her but she isn’t answering. I didn’t want anyone else from the Raizadas to notice my calls so I stopped. Maybe she is busy. And you asked her not to come here so, maybe she is playing it safe to look normal in the eyes of the Raizada family.”


I nod. Maybe. But I don’t have a good feeling about this.

“Try calling her again once.”

He agrees and dials her number.

“The reception here is not good. Let me check calling her from outside.”

The moment he steps to the door, the door opens with a loud bang and Arnav Singh Raizada, Akash and NK barge inside. What the hell are they doing here? How did they track this location? I quickly try to escape when NK and Akash reach me and block my way.


“What’s the hurry Chandrika? You have fled enough from our eyes all the time. Not anymore..” Akash mutters.

Before I can do anything I hear Mohan’s screaming as Arnav hits his stomach and keeps kicking him. Mohan tries to fight him too but everything in vain. Arnav is too strong for Mohan to succeed.


“Leave my son..” I shout and even try to reach him but Akash and NK hold my hands. My hands burn.. Yes.. And I know why.. These men are wearing Devi Maiyaa’s Raksha dhaaga and even if I try to control their minds or hypnotize them, nothing will work. My body is burning like its on fire only by their hold. No. I am more powerful than this. I try to fight them but the burn intensifies.

“Don’t make us tie you up old lady..” NK shouts.


By the time I am done fighting, I realize Arnav has tied my son Mohan to a pillar and is advancing towards me.


“C-H-A-N-D-R-I-K-A” He mutters angrily as he advances.

Arnav’s POV


“So, YOU… are that venomous woman who tried to control my mind?” I ask.

She doesn't reply to that question but instead stares at my face with a grin.

“You have your father’s features… same nose.. same eyes… same height and color..”

“I have the same hatred too which he had for you.”

“He didn’t hate me” she shouts. “He was unlike you all. He was so.. so kind.. so giving.. so loving..”

“Yes he was kind… and generous,” I scowl. “That’s why he gave you shelter in Sheesh Mahal. That one mistake of his costed the entire family so far.”

“He was a fool to pick your mother.” She chides.


The moment she says this, I grip her neck. She squeals to set free but I tighten my grip.


I have never been this raged on anyone to try to kill that person. Never in my life I raised my hand on a woman but this one here is a beast. She is the one who killed my grandfather. She is the one who has been controlling my mind probably from ages in the name of her selfish revenge and is trying to wipe off my family’s existence from this place. How could I not try to harm her? She is the one who turned my sister Anjali against us. She is the one who is responsible for everything. I grip her neck hard but instead of giving up or feeling angry, she now laughs.

“Nannav.. stop. You’ll kill her.” NK and Akash tries to pull me away.

“Bhai, if anything happens to her how will we end the spell. Please stop.”

He is right. I leave my grip from Chandrika’s neck and though she falls on the ground, her laughing doesn't stop.

“You can’t end the spell,” she says laughing hysterically. “The eclipse will begin in 20 minutes and I wouldn’t tell you how it ends.”

I fist my fingers. How the heck is this going to end then? The next moment, I reach for Mohan who is tied up to a pillar. I prick the knife on his neck.

“Mohan…” Chandrika screams. “Don’t.. .don’t ARNAV….”

Mohan screams in pain.

“I wouldn’t mind slitting his throat Chandrika. Before the eclipse begins and I lose the control on my mind, and I start killing my own family, I will slit his throat and bring an end to your world too. If my family dies, so would yours…”

The rage in my tone is enough for her to know I mean every word I said.

“No…”

“Yes..” I pierce the knife harder on Mohan’s neck and blood begins to ooze out.

“Your blood..” she shouts. “Your blood or mine will end it…”

Akash immediately grabs her and NK dials the whatsapp group call to connect Sheetal and Khushi who are the recipients of that call so that they too hear what Chandrika mentions and so that they try to find a solution to end the spell using the clues Chandrika gives us.

“What?” I scream. “Your blood or mine? Where?”

She doesn't say further. Khushi and Sheetal have already joined the call and waiting desperately to hear out.

“Where Chandrika?” I try to pierce the knife angrily this time on Mohan’s neck and she cries.

“Sheesh Mahal…” she cries. “The same room where… this… this spell was casted.. on… your twin brother’s bones..”


What the HECK!! If me and Chandrika are both here … at Kali Bawdi.. which is almost 50 kms away from Sheesh Mahal, how can we reach Sheesh Mahal within 20 minutes to lunar eclipse to sacrifice her blood or mine on that same place where the spell was casted in that secret room connecting the basement? That’s effing impossible. Seeing the expressions on our face, and knowing we can do nothing about it, Chandrika continues her laugh.


“Eem. Bhreem… kreem… naash.. vinaash… kreem..” She shouts louder, blowing air on the black water which she was doing some black magic on when we barged in here. And just then I realize my Raksha Dhaga has been fallen on the ground, probably while fighting with Mohan and before I try to pick it up.. my other side returns.. The blue-eyed version of me…I can feel him.. overpowering my strength.. my mind and stopping me from picking that Raksha Dhaga..


“Damn hell” NK and Akash both scream aloud terrified by my transformation. I grin at them craning my neck to ease up.

“Hell is where you are going to visit soon boys,” I mutter before marching towards them.
