Chapter 38


“I am yours” he assures her wholeheartedly.

Khushi’s face glows but she also becomes more conscious even though he is not here to notice what changes she is undergoing. It’s so good to hear his voice.
“Would you mind telling me who that woman is?” she asks.
He takes a deep sigh.
“My Cousin.. Nadia. She is like a sister to me”




Khushi’s jaw drops. Cousin? She never got much info about the rest of his relatives. She neither showed any interest in knowing that from Anjali.

“Nadia stays in Cape Town. She run a Boutique here. Last weekend we had a party wherein Nadia was also invited. That’s why you saw that picture of ours together”

Khushi still has few doubts but she is no longer suspicious.

“Why didn’t you tell me about Nadia when we had been there together last time?”
“Nadia was not here when we visited Cape Town. She had been out for business and you very well remember we had to leave back for India in what situation”

Khushi nods. Yes, Anjali’s sudden drop of health in Shantivan had panicked the two.

“Doubts cleared Ruhi’s Aunt?” he mocks.

Khushi pouts.
“Yes..”
“It’s nice to hear your voice” he adds.
Khushi fiddles with the end of her top.
“How is Nani??” she cuts the topic.
“Nani is good. Talk to her daily. She is getting bored alone in Shantivan and might plan to visit to Di soon”
“Oh… that’s great. Di was also hoping she would come to stay with them for a while”

Aman knocks his cabin door to take him for the next Conference. Arnav gestures him to hold on for a minute more.

“You need to go?” she asks.
“Yes, some delegates are waiting for me. I am so stuck here in Cape Town.”
“I understand. When will Ruhi see her Uncle?”

Arnav smirks. For some reason he feels she is equally eager to see him.
“Soon”
“How soon?”
“Very”
“Promise”
“Promise”

Khushi is satisfied.

“Got to go, we will continue on emails then”
“Yup.. Bye Arnav”
“Bye”

She hangs up and a sigh of relief lets out her throat. It was so nice to hear his voice. All misunderstandings cleared before thickening and she also got a hint that he will come to San Francisco soon. Though she is excited by that thought, she has no clue how she will react when they meet after such a long gap.

She instantly gets a new email on her mobile which she checks without delay. It’s him.

Khushi,

Why do I feel that more than Ruhi, her aunt is desperate to see me again? I hope she has some agenda prepared when I actually come there.

Ruhi’s curious Uncle,
Arnav.


Khushi sits grinning at her mobile screen. He caught her, didn’t he? She types back.


Ruhi’s Curious Uncle,

Your guess is somewhat right. I cannot wait to see how you handle Ruhi in your arms. I have always wondered your first reaction when you see Ruhi.

I have no personal agenda otherwise even if you come here. It’s strictly for Ruhi.

Ruhi’s Aunt,
Khushi.

She waits for few minutes hoping he would reply to her. It’s midnight now and she is sleepy yet she cannot wait to read his next words. Her phone beeps again bringing a happy smile on her face.


Ruhi’s Stubborn Aunt,

I have never carried a tiny baby before yet somehow even I cannot wait to feel her in my arms. Lets see how that goes.

If this is only for Ruhi and no other personal agenda from her Aunt, then I might make a short trip, see Ruhi and fly back the same evening without meeting her Aunt.

Ruhi’s depressed Uncle,
Arnav.

Khushi frowns. How can he plan one-day trip and even decide not to meet her? He cannot be that rude, can he? She types back.


Ruhi’s Rude Uncle,

If you want me to beg you to come here and see me, I won’t be doing that.

Ruhi’s adamant Aunt,
Khushi.

Again, in five minutes she gets her reply.

Ruhi’s Aunt,

I love challenges and I have won them all.

You will beg me to come to you.. see you… and spend time with you. And I will only come there once this happens.

Don’t make me wait for too long.

It’s very late there, you should sleep and dream about me. Don’t see me sleeping with another women, I cannot tolerate that. For a change, why don’t you see me sleeping with you? Don’t scratch your dirty mind. I meant ONLY sleeping, next to you. I promise not to cross my lines even in your dreams.

Good night Khushi.

Ruhi’s Aunt Dreamer,
Arnav.


Khushi has no words to reply back to him. Will she really beg him to come and see her one day? She hopes not. She cannot be so frantic for him, can she? And Dream him sleeping next to her? Is that possible? How can he tickle her dirty mind so badly even when they are miles apart? She is getting no sleep tonight, that’s sure. She keeps her phone aside and cuddles the pillow. His face is all she sees in her sleep. And as he wished, she actually dreams him cuddling her from back, both sleeping cozily on her bed. Its heart soothing.

Day 120

Ruhi’s Aunt,

Did I cross the lines in your dreams last night? I hope not.

Ruhi’s Uncle,
Arnav.


Khushi is at work the next day when she receives his email. How did he know she dreamt about him? She types he reply.


Ruhi’s Uncle,

You were decent and snoring loudly in my ears.

Ruhi’s Sleepless Aunt,
Khushi.


Arnav chuckles reading her response. She has a good sense of humor.


Ruhi’s Aunt,

Sorry for the loud snoring. I never slept so peacefully in the past few months, maybe that’s why I snored badly.

Ruhi’s Snoring Uncle,
Arnav.


Khushi laughs heartily. How innocently he accepted the snoring part. Shikha comes to her desk.

“I see some more color on your cheeks” she teases.
Khushi keeps her phone down.
“My husband’s message” she whispers.
“Knew it. Aren’t you guys desperate to see each other? I am sure he is” she confidently states.

Khushi gulps nervously.

“He has plans to come. But I don’t know when”
“Aww… Look for clues. He might give you a surprise. Men are always like that”

She has a point. Khushi decides to keep her eyes and ears open.

Ruhi turns two months old. Khushi decides to take Anjali and Ruhi for shopping. She drives them to the Store. They shop for the baby, some warm clothes, toys and then medicines too. That’s exactly when Khushi sees a woman paying at the counter. Is she Shagufta? Before she can check the woman’s face clearly, the woman disappears out. Anjali comes back to Khushi.

“Khushi.. Will you hold Ruhi? I will try this dress on me”
“Sure Di”

Khushi takes sleeping Ruhi in her arms and Anjali heads to the Trial room. Is Shagufta Khanna in San Francisco?

That evening when she returns home, she types an email to Arnav.

Ruhi’s Uncle,

Just curious to know how is your Ex Best Friend Shagufta Khanna doing?

I thought I saw her today in the local Store. Can she be here for any reason?

Ruhi’s confused Aunt,
Khushi.

She knows Arnav wouldn’t be awake now to check her email. An hour later she gets her reply.

Khushi,

I haven’t met Shagufta after I withdrew all my business from hers. I don’t see any chance that she can be in San Francisco. But I have asked Aman to check on that.

She cannot be of any threat. Be assured.

Arnav.


Khushi is not very convinced but Arnav knows Shagufta from his childhood. If he thinks she can be of no threat, then it might be true. But Shagufta is a woman with bruised heart and such people can do anything.

Day 160

Ruchi’s Aunt,

Nani is coming to San Francisco in two days. She will be staying with Di for a month. What do you want from here? No luggage restrictions as she is flying in my Private Jet. Demand anything you like.

Ruchi’s Uncle.

Ruchi’s Uncle,

That’s so kind of you to offer me such a tempting proposal. I will send you my list shortly. I can understand Nani’s situation. It’s hard to resist the urge to see her grand granddaughter.

p.s I am little uncomfortable to face her again. I hope she doesn’t mind me spending more time with Di and Jeeju at their place in her presence.

Ruchi’s Aunt.

Ruhi’s Uncomfortable Aunt, 

Don’t be silly. Nani knows what you have done for Di and she has started seeing the good side in you. She will not mind your presence. But there is one problem. What if seeing you so nice with Ruhi, Nani wishes to see her Grandson’s baby soon? 

Ruhi’s Considerate Uncle, 
Arnav

Babies don’t happen in long distance relationship neither by sleeping together in dreams. LOL 

Ruhi’s Intelligent Aunt, 
Khushi.

Ruhi’s Intelligent Aunt, 

Really? I didn’t know. How do babies happen then?

Eager to know what version of this process you know about. 

Ruhi’s Dumb Uncle,
Arnav.

Ruhi’s Dumb Uncle, 

Why don’t you see some good movies to get this idea? 

Ruhi’s Intelligent Aunt, 
Khushi.

Ruhi’s Aunt, 

I don’t like wasting time in movies. But I eager to learn. Why don’t you teach me when I come there? 

Ruhi’s Obedient Student Uncle, 
Arnav.

Khushi feels her heart beating faster. He is really getting naughtier in their email chats. She replies back.


Ruhi’s Obedient Uncle, 

If that’s a trick so that I can beg you to come here, it isn’t happening. Self-learn and don’t expect me to teach you. 

p.s Even if you come here, I don’t think we will be staying together, forget sleeping together. You will stay with Di and me with Shikha in our Office accommodation. 

Ruhi’s nonhopeful Aunt, 
Khushi.

Ruhi’s Aunt, 

Show some mercy dammit.!! We are husband-wife. We got every right to sleep in the same room. Don’t worry of our sleeping arrangements, I will take care of that. 

Just say .. YES or NO!!

Ruhi’s Uncle, 
Arnav.

Ruhi’s Uncle, 

YES or NO for what? 

Ruhi’s Aunt, 
Khushi.

Ruhi’s Aunt, 

You want me to come there? Yes or No? 

Ruhi’s Uncle, 
Arnav.

Ruhi’s Uncle, 

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS

But no other plans than seeing each other and maybe even sleeping in the same room. If that’s okay with you. 

Ruhi’s Aunt, 
Khushi.

Ruhi’s Aunt, 

I am in no hurry. This is enough.

Ruhi’s good Uncle,
 Arnav. 


Khushi holds the phone close to her heart. She is on bed, trying to sleep and now that she knows he will soon be coming here to see her, she cannot measure how those days are going to be. It’s been 5 months now and by the time he comes, it will be 6. Exactly half year more for her contract in San Francisco to finish.
