Chapter 40


Day 180

Khushi stirs in her sleep. She is still in the same skirt which she wore for the Cocktail party. She was so tired that she didn’t change. It is still midnight when she feels her phone beeping again. Who can message her so late? It’s not an email, its message. Cannot be Arnav for sure. She opens the message and her eyes dart in shock. It is from Arnav.

‘Open the door’

Khushi swallows nervously. What does he mean by open the door?

‘Why?’ she messages back.

After half a minute she gets her reply.

‘Check your emails, you will know why’

Emails? She quickly checks her emails and she cannot believe she tempted him to come here for a Kiss. But it is impossible. He is in India. He cannot reach in one hour here. This has to be something else. Maybe he has sent something for her. But this late? Whatever. If he has asked her to open the door and check, she should. She gets down the bed, wears slippers and heads out to open the main door. The moment she opens it wide, she stumbles behind seeing the man himself, smirking at her.

“Arrr….nnnnnnaaaaavvvvvv?” she chokes.
“Hi Wife” he greets her back warmly.

Is she dreaming? He cannot be here. She rubs her eyes.

“Am I dreaming??” she asks him innocently.
“No, you are not” he gets inside the house, without leaving her gaze. They are seeing each other after 6 long months. Email chats and one voice call cannot quench the thirst he felt for her all this while. He can feel the same effect in Khushi too but she is very confused at the moment to see him here.

“How.. how did you come? So.. so quickly and… are you really here? I … I cannot believe” she stammers.

Arnav rolls his eyes with a sigh.

“Will you ask everything here or let me in the house?” he snaps.
“Of course.. I.. I am sorry.. please.. come” she locks the door pulling him inside.

Arnav feels her touch very electrifying. Long distance relationships might be working well for them, but it sucks too because you cannot feel the other person close to your body and soul. She locks the door and leans on it. Her body is reacting in an unusual way. She had not expected them to meet like this. She is wearing so less clothes. Not that he has never seen her in short frocks but today it feels different. Maybe because they both feel an unimaginable pull towards each other now. Its crackling chemistry between them unlike before.

“You alone?”
“No…Shikha.. she is there.. sleeping.. in the other room”
“Hmm” he smirks again seeing the flush on her face.
“Read our last emails?” he softly murmurs.
She gulps, breaking their gaze, feeling extremely shy like a sheep. She doesn’t reply.

“Water? Will you like to have some water? One minute” she rushes in the kitchen. Arnav gives a lopsided smile seeing her condition. She is behaving odd.

She opens the refrigerator and gets the bottle to him.

“Oh.. Sorry.. you need a glass too” she mumbles and is about to hurry back in the kitchen when he grips her wrist and pulls her close.
“Relax… .I don’t need anything”
Her breathing shallows.
“You don’t?” she gasps.
“I came here to see you.”
“I know” she nods. “But..How? So quickly?”

Arnav smiles.
“I came here today afternoon”
“What? Why? Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I didn’t want you to cancel your Party for me. And I have got your father too. We are staying in a Hotel. Di doesn’t know yet I am here. I thought of surprising you all tomorrow morning but then things slipped out of my hands as you tempted me to come here and remind you something”

Khushi feels her body warming up by his touch. Email flirting is different, she cannot even open her mouth now and speak a general statement. They hear some noise from Shikha’s room. Probably she has woke up. Khushi holds his hand and drags him to her room.

“I don’t want Shikha to see you now, at this hour” she explains locking the door.
“I am not your boyfriend but your husband. I have every right to see you anytime I want”
She flushes at his explanation.
“I know.. but she will tease me for the rest of my life. She already does that a lot when I email you. So, we will tell her tomorrow about this sneak peak arrival of yours.”
“Your wish” he shrugs.

He scans her room, its very bachelor type but neat and tidy.

“You got dad here?”
“Yes” he shakes his head. “You can talk to him personally tomorrow. I got him on the pretext of giving me some company. That’s all. He doesn’t know you are prepared to talk about his Divorce”
“Oh” she smiles. “Thank you.. I .. I will surely talk to him.”

Arnav keeps staring at her. She looks so young and radiant. Is it the joy of seeing him here? He hopes so.

“Ruhi will finally see her uncle” Khushi chuckles.
“I am eager to see her too”
“I will take you to Di’s house.”
“Sure”
“I can take you now” she gets super excited.
“Its too late. I don’t want to disturb them at this hour”
“Yes.. I .. I understand.. So, how many days are you here?”
“Just tomorrow. I am flying back to Cape Town with your father day after that”

Khushi frowns. She is unhappy to hear that he came only for a day.
“You came here for one day? That’s all?” she snaps.
“Yes..”
She comes ahead.
“Not fair Arnav” she sounds pissed. “We meet after 6 months and you want to go back in one day?” she hits his chest gently, complaining.
“Khushi..” he tries to speak but she doesn’t let him to.
“Don’t … Don’t give me your adamant excuses.” she hits him again. Before she can hit him more, he grips her wrist and pins her to the wall behind. It silences her.

She inhales through the rising lust between them.

“You still want me to remind you the kiss?” he asks in a husky voice which prickles her scalp badly. She takes another minute to reply him, because she doesn’t want him to think she is still in the effect of the alcohol. She is completely sane and conscious to know what she desires from him.

“Yes” she whispers.

Arnav grins. He tilts his head and kisses her lips, demanding in the subtlest of ways. She kisses him back with the same passion. This feeling is heady and necessary for both to realize they have a strong pull for each other now and nothing can drive them away. It’s like they both have lived all this while only for this one kiss. She lets out a soft moan when he pulls back and meets her eyes.

“I missed you Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizada” he murmurs. “And I know you missed me too”

She is flabbergasted at his sudden confrontation. She didn't realize it so far that she has just a big name. It feels so right.

“Thanks for leaving me that note and giving me hope. I wouldn’t have survived otherwise” he adds with an emotional touch in his voice.

Her eyes become moist with tears. She kisses him again. She loves him or not, she doesn’t know. She wants this marriage or not, she doesn’t know. But the feeling that they have right now between them is all that matters.

When they pull away again after timeless moments, he cups her face and kisses her forehead.

“This is better than the one we had in Cape Town” he admits.

The shyness is back on her face and she cannot imagine she just kissed him.. not once.. twice but uncountable times in the last 30 minutes.

“What is it with long distance relationships?” he mocks wiping his own lips.
She lets out a giggle. He steps a foot away from her, giving her space to breathe.
“I will see you tomorrow morning. We will go to meet Di together”
“You going back now?” she doesn’t sound happy with it.
Arnav grins again. He senses she doesn’t want him to go.
“You didn’t invite me to stay” he complains.

Khushi frowns at him again.

“Which hotel are you staying here?” she asks.
“The Goldman”
“That’s far. Until you reach again and sleep, it will be morning already and you also need to come back here to see Di. I suggest you should stay”

Arnav closes the distance between the two and kisses her again.
“If I stay, things can go out of hand. Why do you think I am leaving in one day?” he murmurs.
Khushi feels dizzy by his kisses. He is right but she is not prepared to leave his sight yet.
“I loved coming here.. at this odd hour..” he kisses her on the forehead. “I will see you tomorrow wife. Go to sleep now”

She smiles weakly. He unlocks the door and heads out without turning behind. He knows if he turns around and watches his wife, he might not go away tonight.

Day 181


Khushi wakes up before her usual time and quickly showers. She is glad its weekend again and she can spend the day with Arnav and her father. She has a lot of talking to do especially with the later. She looks herself in the mirror and finds her lips more attractive than before. She is glowing already. All of this is the effect of her husband who came to kiss her last night. It was so romantic and she will remember this for the rest of her life.

“Khushi.. Look who’s here” Shikha knocks her bathroom door. “Your husband”

Khushi bites her lips. He is on time.
“I am coming. Please ask him to sit.”

Khushi finishes the rest of the shower in 10 minutes and dresses up. When she comes out, she finds Shikha and Arnav talking. Shikha is very decently standing away from him while he is asking her how they are coping up with their work here. Khushi can clearly sense how much girls like to admire her husband and its like a dream for them to even talk to him.

“Sorry to keep you waiting” Khushi apologizes coming out.
Arnav moves his gaze on her. She has purposely worn red top on the Jeans.
“It’s okay Wife. Had a good sleep?” he deliberately asks.

She swallows giving a quick glance to Shikha who is confused why they are behaving like they have met before .. last night?

“Did you?” she asks him back in the same teasing tone.
He raises his brow. She has really got some guts to ask him that. He would have loved to answer her question but Shikha’s presence is making it difficult. He didn’t sleep at all last night after returning back to the Hotel. The glimpses of their kisses kept haunting him the whole night.

“Coffee?” Khushi breaks his stance. She shies again. Shying is new for her but she can’t help.
“Sure” he nods.

Khushi rushes in the kitchen. Shikha follows her.
“Let me guess, he met you last night?”
Khushi pouts.
“Yea, he came last night.”
“Oh my god” Shikha sounds excited. “And you didn’t tell me? I thought I heard some sexy voices” she teases. Khushi pushes her away gently.
“We did nothing to make such sexy voices. He left in half an hour”
“30 minutes your husband was with you. You both meet after 6 months and did nothing? I cannot believe that”

Khushi is all red.
“Shikha… Stop”
“Alright” she chuckles. “Go serve your husband. I am going to go shopping with Sandy (office colleague).
“And I have to meet my father” Khushi informs.
“Oh, is he here too?”
“Yep” she makes the coffee.
“Spend your day wisely. Don’t let your darling husband go without his return gift” Shikha whispers in her ears and then runs out.

Return Gift? What should she gift him? And that also reminds her, he is going to go back tomorrow. Sigh!!!

She brings him the coffee out.

“Where is yours?”
“I will make one” she almost forgot to make her own cup of coffee. She is about to go when he holds her hand and makes her sit next to him on the couch.
“We will share”

Sharing coffee is going to be romantic again. He sips once and passes the mug to her. She takes the next sip.

“When will I see dad?”
“He is going to meet Di and Jeeju this afternoon. I have informed him that I am going to get you there directly”
“Perfect”
She passes him the mug. He sips his share. They finish the coffee and are ready to go. Arnav notices the coffee drop at the corner of her lips. He rubs her lip to wipe it off. Khushi feels electrified, memories of last night cloud her mind. Their eyes meet again and sparks fly as he keeps stroking her lips.
