Chapter 48

Arnav stirred in his sleep, cuddling his son thinking it was his wife Khushi. But the moment, he embraced the boy, he realized his mistake. Last night after they returned from the Church, he wanted his wife all for himself but unfortunately, so did their son. They played Chess thrice and Arnav didn’t w1n even once. How would he when all he could concentrate was Khushi who was still in that wedding gown he had specially designed for her? His impatience was no surprise to Khushi but when Aarav insisted on sleeping together in their bedroom, Arnav had to control his hormones and show the best of his behaviors last night. So technically today morning when Arnav woke up and still didn’t find his wife beside, his mood was instantly off. He patted Aarav to sleep again and made his way down. Khushi was texting someone on her phone. She looked happy and relaxed. As if sensing his presence, she raised her head and smiled at him as Arnav strode through the living room, shirtless. He kept his gaze on her as he guzzled some water from the bottle, his stride easy yet entirely predatory. Khushi straightened as he drew closer and sat beside her.
“You look quite happy this morning”

“I am” she nuzzled her face on his neck, leaning closer to her husband and continued to text on her phone. “Few of my friends here want to meet you and Aarav”

Arnav nodded blankly. He had met all her friends back in India but he had no clue of her friend circle in Auckland. He kissed her hair as she continued texting on her phone.

“It’s more like a send-off party as I might not see them again anytime soon” she sighed raising her chin. “But they want to see us for drinks”

“I don’t mind”

“I do. We cannot take Aarav to a pub. That’s why I had invited them home but..”

“We can invite them home some other time. Don’t cancel your plans because of the Venue. Aarav can stay home for few hours without us” Arnav debated.

“You sure?”

“Very” He kissed her forehead gesturing her to continue typing her reply. As soon as she was done, she cuddled even cozier to his body. His musky perfume tickled her senses every time they were this close.

“I will ask my maid to stay home with Aarav tonight until we return plus you have the guards too to ensure he is safe. My only concern is convincing our son to let us off for some time. Do you think he will mind?”

“He shouldn’t. Plus, he is big enough to understand we have outside commitments”

Khushi pouted. Arnav got down on his feet and quickly carried her in arms.

“But right now, you should be more concerned about satiating your husband. You have no idea how desperate he is to make love to you since we took the vows again”

“He is not the only one desperate” she wrapped her arms around his neck and rubbed her nose on his rough stubble. She was about to bite him when they heard their Son’s voice.

“Dad?”

Khushi got alert seeing sleepy Aarav standing right before them and confused watching the two. She wriggled to get back on her feet but Arnav didn’t put her down.

“Hey Champ.. Good morning” he wished.

“Why are you carrying Mom?”

Khushi waited to know what will he answer.

“Mom’s foot is aching again. I will put her to bed and be right back.”

“Right back?” Khushi teased. She knew if they leave to the room now, none of them could return soon.

“I will try to be quick” he said dismissively making Khushi giggle hard. She got down from his arms and pinched his cheeks.

“We don’t have time for this now” She whispered turning back to Aarav. “Let me get the breakfast for everyone”

“I will help you” Aarav insisted before Arnav could even think of taking her away for himself. Khushi passed a flying kiss to her husband before walking in the kitchen with her son.

******************

Evening

The Pub was buzzing with music as Arnav and Khushi made their way through the crowd at the table where Khushi’s friends were waiting for them.

“This is our regular pub where we all met twice or thrice a month” she stated.

Arnav scanned the place but then his eyes rested on his wife to keep a check on her dress. She was wearing a sleeveless shimmering golden dress which had covered half her legs and back. It took five rejections from Arnav after which he approved this dress out of all the ones she had flaunted before him today, while dressing up. He knew she was doing that purposely to check his reactions on her modern sexy outfits. He could already see streaks of the old Khushi she used to be, when she dressed up for today’s get together with her friends. She was always very excited for parties, discos and pubs with her friends but there was also a huge difference now. She was not neglecting her family life for her personal enjoyment. She very tactfully convinced Aarav to allow them few hours out and even played some sci-fi movies for him so that he doesn’t get bored in their absence. She cooked the entire meal for Aarav and instructed her maid to feed Aarav on time. She even prepared his bed in case if he falls asleep before they get back home. And before entering the Pub, she called the maid again to check if Aarav was comfortable in their absence. Arnav couldn’t have been proud of his wife more than he was for her today. She was a responsible mother.

Khushi introduced Arnav to all her friends.

“And that’s Tanmay” Khushi familiarized Arnav with the only man left to be introduced.

Arnav’s shook hands with him recalling who Tanmay was. He was the same guy Shashi Gupta wanted Khushi to settle down with, once. Though that never happened, he was now one of Khushi’s good friend and they also had been on a drink a couple of days back when he and Aarav hadn’t showed up to Auckland.

“We have met” Tanmay smiled. “Remember?”

“I do” Arnav muttered. “You and Khushi were on a dinner date”

He turned to his wife who eyed him for being gentle on her friends and not bother them with his insecurities.

“That’s right. Sorry man, though I knew from Uncle about Khushi’s past and her forgotten memories, I wasn’t aware you were her husband”

Arnav recalled that night when he had seen Khushi and Tanmay dining together and out of anger, he said a lot many hurtful things to his wife which now he deeply regrets. Khushi pressed his arm gently hugging him from the side. Even without him saying a word, she knew what he was thinking.

“Drinks guys?” Tanmay asked to all and each of them gave their preferences except Khushi.

“I am not drinking tonight” she replied.

“Oh, come on Khushi. Just one drink”

“Nope. I have my son waiting at home. I don’t him to see his mother drunk”

Arnav was though impressed by her thoughts; he didn’t agree with her.

“He will be asleep by the time we reach home. One drink wont harm unless..” he leaned closer. “You want to be in your complete senses when I ..”

Khushi pinched him to make him stop completing that statement.

“I will have one shot. That’s it” she agreed turning to her friends who cheered at them and quickly placed their respective orders.

The next few hours passed as Khushi chatted with her friends, telling them how she was enjoying her new life with Arnav and their son. She even discussed about winding up her work soon from Auckland and heading back to India where she was shifting permanently now. Arnav was mingling with her friends too who were sharing Khushi’s tiny secrets with him.

“You play guitar?” His eyes sparkled with delight.

“Not that well but.. Yes, I do. I learnt it here. Had got some spare time”

“Play for me someday” he urged pecking her ear and she melted by his touch but a phone call shifted her attention from Arnav.

“I need to take this” She excused from the group and made her way to the exit door where the music was less audible. Arnav followed her to ensure she was safe. He couldn’t leave his wife alone here.

“Mrs. Jha” Khushi answered the call oblivious of the fact that Arnav was right behind her. “Never thought you will take my words so seriously”

Arnav’s steps halted as he realized she was speaking to Shyam’s mother. He didn’t mean to intervene their conversation but he couldn’t help ignoring it either. Why had Shanti Jha called Khushi? And it seemed like his wife was waiting for this call. They spoke for few minutes though Arnav couldn’t listen anything due to the loud music behind him. When she dropped the call and turned around, she gasped seeing him waiting for her.

“Hey..” he mumbled putting a smile back on his face. “I didn’t mean to eavesdrop but….”

“It’s fine even if you did. We are not going to hide anything from each other. That’s one of the vows we have taken yesterday, didn’t we?”

Arnav waited patiently for her to reveal.

“Ever since you told Shyam is interested in taking his relationship with Anjali ahead, a thought bugged my mind. Marriage doesn’t just involve the bride and the groom Arnav. It involves the whole family. And if the family doesn’t support fully to their relationship, it creates some major rifts between the couple. Who better than me and you know this?”

Arnav nodded.

“I know Shanti Jha never liked Anjali but I thought she needs a reality check. It’s high time she stops meddling in Shyam’s life or impose her own decisions on him. He has every right to pick a woman of his choice and I am really happy that he loves Anjali so much. Love is important but I don’t want him to be shadowed by his mother’s hatred for Anjali”

“So, you talked to her?” he asked. Pride shone in his eyes as she nodded passively.

“I requested her politely to wipe off her grudge, erase the insecurities she has and to accept Shyam and Anjali’s relationship willingly. She was already guilty for being the reason of our misunderstanding. But then… I ignored it for the time being. We can always clear our score later.. Right now, focusing on Shyam and Anjali is more important. They too have waited all these years to settle down with each other. We got our closure; they should get theirs too”

Arnav kissed her with heartrending tenderness. He had never thought his wife would take this initiative for his sister, especially after knowing how Anjali had ruined their relationship in the past. When they pulled back, Khushi had more to share.

“Shyam is travelling back to Delhi tomorrow and she doesn’t want to delay coming to Shantivan for asking Anjali’s hand for her son. I have told her we will return in two days to proceed with this. Sorry, didn’t keep you in loop so far but..”

Arnav shut her lips with his finger.

“You don’t need my permission to do what you think is right. I trust you Khushi Singh Raizada. Not just your decisions but your instincts too. I know whatever steps you take will always be for the benefit of the family”

“I am ridiculously pleased by your kind words Mr. Raizada. You deserve something great tonight..”

“And that tonight begins now..”

He pulled her back to the dance floor. He wasn’t going to miss this golden chance of dancing madly with his wife who was wearing this seductive dress only for him. They danced for more than an hour. Her moves tingled every fiber in his body and he didn’t leave a chance to bring her close, kiss her, touch her the way he desired. Two more days and they were flying back to India, taking ample of memories from this place of their togetherness.

******************

After returning back to India, Khushi showed her phenomenal skills by arranging a secret meeting of the Jhas in Shantivan which Anjali obviously wasn’t aware of. Anjali was purposely kept busy by Ayush at AR Group while Khushi arranged the dinner with the Jha’s. When Anjali returned home, a blue Saree was placed on her bed with a note to dress up soon and come down. Anjali was confused at first because she recognized the handwriting was of Khushi’s. Why would Khushi give this Saree to her? Anjali knew Khushi hadn’t forgiven her neither Arnav was in normal talking terms with her even after their return from Auckland. It was only Aarav and her father Ayush who talked to her and made her feel homely. Arnav-Khushi had brought gifts for everyone from Auckland and it included her too but it was Aarav who gave her those gifts and she was hurt. But why would Khushi keep this Saree for her tonight?

“Thats for you”

Arnav’s voice from the door shook her. He had never made an attempt to speak to her again. He only communicated with her at Office to explain their work and about their Clients. He strode inside meeting her eyes painfully.

“We have someone coming home for Dinner tonight. So, wear this and come down” he added.

Anjali swallowed the painful knot formed in her throat. She didn’t have to know who that special person was coming today because she could read that joy on her brother’s face. She was pleased by his thoughtfulness that even after what she did with them, Arnav was still mending her life.

“Thank you..” she murmured.

“Don’t thank me. Khushi organized all this although Shyam was equally desperate to make it happen soon. I have just helped them”

Before he could add more, Anjali close the distance between the two and gave him a hug, her tears wetted his shirt.

To be Continued.

I know my Aunt is desperate to learn more and find some clues to our marriage.

“So, how did you and Advay exactly meet?” Aunty asks. “I mean, you both are two different worlds altogether. How did you even fall in love?”

I have to answer this. Jiya is about to frame something but I hold her hand over the table, pressing it gently.

“Allow me to share our story sweetheart”

Jiya’s brows arch in surprise. There is something in her eyes which tells she hadn’t expected me to call her by such romantic nicknames. But this is what pretense means. I turn to my Uncle and Aunt who are desperate to know our love story.

“Six months back my car broke down in front of Soul Café and while my driver was fixing it, I decided to grab a cup of Coffee. Jiya was in there and I assumed her to be the Server. That’s how our communication began and we spent the next one hour talking”

Jiya watches me amused. This story can kick-off, I know.

“How romantic” Aryan squeals. “So, does that mean every evening from that day your car broke down at the same place?”

I smile with a nod.

“Kind of”

“He always ordered the same Café” Jiya added. “And he never walked out until he saw me”

Good!! This is going great. I can see my Uncle almost convinced.

“That means you liked each other instantly? First sight love?” Aryan digs for more.

“For him it was first sight love, not me” Jiya answers.

What the hell!! She is making me the goose here?

“Excuse me?” I snap turning to Jiya who has all my attention now. She is making me the scapegoat?

“Of course,” she smiles. “Don’t you remember, how you always made stories of your car puncture and client meeting in my Café? You came to me.. I didn’t”

My jaw clenches hard. I can debate over this fake story until I am in the winning side, not she.

“Why did you flaunt yourself all the time around my table then? You owned the Café; you could have locked up in the Kitchen or at the backdoor”

She frowns.

“I had to look after other customers too. I didn’t specifically loiter around you”

Our bickering brings a smile on Daadu’s face which soon turns into a laughter.

“God, you two really look married now. A marriage without illogical arguments and silly fights is not a real marriage” he states.

Me and Jiya both shut up realizing we went too far in faking the story and upon that arguing who fell first for the other.

“Who proposed first?” My aunt’s questions are unstoppable.

“He”

“She”

We both point at each other, the same time. Our contradictory replies raise my Aunt’s suspicion.
